Anora was was really good ... very funny and genuinely moving at times.

If anyone hasn't seen the director Sean Baker's other movies, most are about sex workers of one variety or another, whose inevitably flawed characters are presented with dark humour and much sympathy. Tangerine is genuinely hilarious... and I loved Red Rocket.

A colleague and I also watched Anora recently and while we didn't hate it, we also didn't love it. We felt there was a lot of missing context to make the story whole, among other things. But it was better than many of the SW movies out there that's for sure

Stars at Noon [2022]

For fans of langurous cinema only.

As is typical of Claire Denis, this is more a lengthy enigmatic vibe than a conventional story.

Beautifully shot, underappreciated, with a great score, it features a riveting (to me, at least) central performance from Margaret Qualley as an American supposed-journalist turned prostitute while stranded in Nicaragua during the 1980s.
