Here is video of the unfortunate aftermath of the incident near the pool at the Hotel Xcaret, in which the two shot men can be seen on the ground near the pool, one face down, one face up. VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED, as these unfortunate individuals did lose their lives on vacation, just getting a bite to eat near the pool:

I can hear a woman screaming "David!!!" in the video, and I am guessing this is the name of one of these unfortunate victims.

The Canadian tourists both had criminal backgrounds so this theory is quite viable. And having the assassin check into the hotel as a guest (probably with an assumed name) would be an interesting twist in the normal method. It was fairly brazen to kill the 2 men near so many witnesses, but assuming they were drug mules or in the drug trade which is supported by their histories, this theory does make sense. And is consistent with how brazen the cartels are in their operations.

If true, the assassin is now in a safe house and likely will not be caught. He conveniently wore a Covid mask to thwart ID.

One wrinkle with the theory of an assassin is witnesses claimed they heard an argument between the gunman and the victims before the shots. It occurred to me that the argument could have been staged, or more likely the assassin confronted the victims and engaged a discussion on the matter in dispute.
