The only thing that kinda sucks is that they are all 3 centers... Don't get me wrong, for them it might be the best thing: getting more scoring from each line, unlike last year where Crosby did most of the scoring. But what would have been fun is seeing all 3 of them on the same line! Their points total would have been incredible. With crosby's passing and the way the 2 others can finish... that could have been one of the best lines in the history of the game and with an average age of 18... SICK!
Anyway, I think they might make the playoff if they can stay healthy!

Well, Staal is on the second line right now. If one of last night's game goals was any indication, where Malkin came down the ice on the LW and assisted Crosby on the goal, Malkin showed he can also play on the wings.

AHAHA Maple Laughs got distroyed again... Tucker got knocked around... when will those leafs learn... Ferguson SUCKS! Im sure he can give a better then most of the SP!!!!

On another note, I was watching SportsCenter on TSN (Canadien Channel) tonight after the game and I was really pissed off that they show the Habs resume 4th... I could understand they show Toronto vs Ottawa seeing how its 2 canadiens teams. OK! I can also kinda understand them showing the Buffalo game before because they were going for a league record 10th straight win... OK maybe... But then they puts the flyers vs atlanta, which didnt mean anything... Montreal, a canadian team, an original 6, playing against Boston, another original 6... Really pissed me off... They really are doing everything to piss off french canadiens...

You read my mind mtlman2005, I flipped SportsCenter on this morning and waited 45 minutes before seeing any Habs highlights - had to sit through f**king Leaf highlights TWICE before seeing the Habs!

I hate TSN and their All Toronto All of the Time bullshit!

Teams that look like locks for the playoffs:
Sabres
Thrashers
Canadiens
Teams that look like they should make the playoffs:
Devils
Senators

After that the remaining 3 spots are between any of these teams
Penguins
Hurracaines
Lightening

Yeah, uh, dont get caried away... we are 10 games into the season! Just for an example, last year, the Habs had an amazing start: we were beating Ottawa in the standing, but at the end we barely made the playoffs...

I do think its safe to say that Buffalo will make it, the rest... we'll have to wait and see!

I know but the dive had alot to do with the play and issues of disgruntled players that aren't here anymore.

It's early no doubt but those teams look like playoff teams right now.

Malkin Scores in 5th Straight Game

Evgeni Malkin's assault on NHL goaltenders continued last night as he scored his 5th goal in his 5th game with the Penguin. He also had 2 assists.

Crosby had a hat trick and now leads the teams on goals scored by 1 over Malkin. Malkin assisted on one of the Crosby goals.

The Penguins look like they are for real.

Restricted FA status

Well, I'm glad to see that the Pens have elected to keep Jordan Staal on their roster where he belongs rather than send him down to the minor league. This was the initial plan so that this year wouldn't count against the 3-yr requirement before he becomes a restricted free agent. What this means is that after the 2008-2009 season, both Malkin and Staal will simultaneously become restricted free agents and the Pens will be faced with the prospect of signing both to big contracts. This of course, after they're faced with signing Crosby to a LT deal after the 2007-08 season.

Picasso,

It's a terrible situation the Penguins are in, having 3 immensely talented young players like that. I read that in a few years if they have to pay Crosby and Malkin what they are worth (not to mention Staal), they would have to pay everyone else on their roster minimum wages. In the NY Post, it was mentioned that the current NHL bargaining agreement really punishes teams that manage to draft and collect great young talent like this. I think they called it "precluding excellence" and contrasted the NHL with Major League Baseball's luxury tax which allows teams to pay their players what they are worth and keep them.

EB,

It's a dilemma for the Pens all right but it is an enviable problem that other teams in the league would love to have. Until that time happens, the Pens have a narrow window of opportunity-- as well as an obligation to their fans and to the league in general--to do whatever it takes to boost attendance, revenues, and perhaps win the Stanley Cup while they have those 3 guys together. I agree that the current CBA sucks. You have a salary cap that no team is allowed to exceed. On top of that, there's revenue sharing. And going forward, any player with seven years in the league can become an unrestricted free agent. Crosby who signed when he was 18 will be an unrestricted free agent when he turns 25. Ditto with Staal and Malkin. So in this era of free agency and players moving around, I don't think we're likely to see a repeat of dynasties like the Edmonton Oilers.

I'm sorry, but I really don't see the problem here... The hole point of the salary cap is to spread the talent around the league, make teams more even and a better show. But in fact, all this can be changed with the players! Look at Kariya the year before the lockout: he got payed peanuts to play with Colorado hoping to win a cup! He didn't have to. He got better offers elsewhere, but he was there for the win, not the money! If players like Malkin, Staal, Crosby, Fleury want to win together, they will decide how much they want to be paid.
On another note, look a the Lighting: they have 3 players close to max salary and they have a normal team! Personnaly, I wouldn't pay St Louis that kind of money... but not my decision, or point... The Pens can keep all 4 of them and still have a stanley cup team in the next year!
If you take off the cap, look at teams like NYR, Philadelphia, NJ... load up on players and dominate! Because don't forget, we're talking about Crosby, Ovechkin, ect, in the next 6-7 years, but there are players like Nash, Kovalchuk, Gaborik that are just as good, and they will be free agents a lot sooner!

Sensational Aebischer!

Aebischer had some spectacular saves tonight on home ice, especially in the first period when he stopped a shot at point blank on a breakaway. Also, in the last period when he used his whole body to knock down several shots from the Sens PP. To date, Aebischer gets the nod over Huet as the better goalie. I really like this year's Habs. They are developing an identity under Carbo. And that is, solid defense, defensive scoring (tops in the league), excellent PK with the speedy Chris Higgins emerging as the top short-handed goal scoring threat in the league. Higgins did it again tonight in spectacular fashion. GO HABS!

Malkin First NHL Player in 89 Years To Score In 1st 6 Games

With 2 more goals last night, including the game winner, Evgeni Malkin has become the first NHL player in 89 years to have scored goals in each of his first 6 NHL games. Malkin now has 7 goals in 6 games played.

Crosby assisted on both Malkin goals, and Staal had his 5th goal last night.

With the new collective bargaining agreement, the age for unrestricted free agents eventually goes down to 25; which means the Penguins could lose Crosby, Malkin and Staal when they are 25! Vancouver GM Dave Nonis is critical of this, I agree with him, you spend a lot to develop a player, then you might lose them just when theyre entering their prime.

I'm starting to really like Kovalev at center, he has naturel size for the position and with a little more time I think he may en up being dominent in the face off circle.

Crosby and Malkin are living up to hype - This is why I don't like Salary Caps or Parity! In a few years this possible dynasty will be pulled apart - When Crosby becomes a free agent and jumps ship to come and play for the most storied franchise in the history of the NHL...:D

Well...How about a Stanley Cup :D this year? The Habs haven't gone more than 12 seasons without winning the Cup. So, to keep that streak alive they need to do it this year.
