And to make matters even more comical Montreal recently committed to paying Markov almost 6 million a year for the next several years. The guy's not bad but to pay him superstar money is freakin ridiculous and just one more reason why the Habs will continue their losing ways.

"Not bad" you say. Markov is merely the Habs' best D-man and their best player IMO. He's not flashy but he's rock solid back there and has time and again shown he can shut down marquee opponents like Crosby, Ovechkin and the like. The Habs blue line are what kept them in the playoffs chase right thru the last weekend of the regular season. All three guys, Rivet, Souray and Markov are to become unrestricted FA this offseason. Rivet has already been dealt, Souray despite having a fantastic year offensively is really not a defensive stud back there so committing to Markov makes sense to me. Locking up your best player to me is a good investment. As for the $5.75M per year price tag, that's just reality with the salary cap projected to increase to as much as $47-$49M. At least the Habs already know what they're getting in Markov for the next several years.

So, which Canadian team will lose the Stanley Cup next year?
We've gone through the small market teams the past 3 years.
Maybe it's Toronto or Vancouver's turn.

My early prediction for next year: Buffalo vs Vancouver

Ya it really sucks. Places like Tampa, Carolina and LA who are only interested in hockey when their team is winning gets the cup, while the most supported markets steeped in hockey tradition constantly loses. What is the hockey world coming to? What's worse is that the Sens played like they were just happy to be there and never really showed much of an effort.

You're right for once Pablo: he IS their best player...which shows just how absolutely woeful they are! And if the best thing you can say about a team is that they were "in the playoff chase right thru the last weekend of the regular season" you are saying that it's acceptable ..maybe even pretty damn good!...for the Habs to be "only" 2 positions out of a playoff spot. Christ - the Sens are devastated that they "only" made it to the final but couldn't win the Cup, and you're bragging that the Habs had a shot at a bottom playoff spot but couldn't quite reach that awesome level.

Have you counted the money that this brilliant organization has invested in "best player" Markov, Captain Koivu, and brilliant forwards Kovalev and Samsonov (to name just 4 members of this elite - ha ha - team)? If you ever bother to do so, you might figure out why the Habs are slated for mediocrity or worse for years - or more likely DECADES - to come.

However, far be it from me to burst your cheerful little dream bubble Pablo. Keep inhaling or ingesting whatever it is that gives you these hallucinations and don't let me or any other realist rain on your little parade of fantasy.

Best wishes - who knows, maybe little Saku will be hoisting the Cup 12 months from now.

To answer that question here is the Stanly Cup schedual starting in 2004 and finishing in 2010:

2004: Tampa def Calgary
2006: Carolina def Edmonton
2007: Anahime def Ottawa
2008: Dallas def Toronto (just following the pattern of 2 teams from the same division)
2009: San Jose def Montreal
2010: Atlanta def Vancouver

There we go. The Canadian humulition is set to continue for the next 3yrs.

You sound like a broken record. Sorry those meds haven't lifted you out of that black hole of negativity and cynicism. Keep working at it.

Cheers -

"Canadian humiliation"? What are you talking about? The fact of the matter is most players on the Ducks team are Canadians. Ditto with last year's SC champs, Carolina. The Cup itself will also end up spending more time on Canadian soil given that most of these players' off-season homes are in Canada.

Play the record one more time Pablo because you still haven't figured out the chorus. It's not called negativity and cynicism, it's called being a big boy and admitting the truth. And speaking of meds, go ask your doctor for a lifetime supply of reality pills because you obviously need them in order to face that big bad world out there.

PS: Too bad the Samsonov thing didn't work out the way you expected.

This is like when the Blue Jays won the World Series. It only proved that our Porto Rican players were better than their Porto Rican players. So what? We already know that Canada produces most of the NHL players, but what most of us want is Canadians winning the cup for a Canadian team.
