Sox fans should be concerned with the apparent disarray of authority at the top between Cherington and Lucchino, and the known dedication lapses by some key Sox players.

I totally agree with you. My take on the Sox soap opera is that the blame should not be put on the players, but on upper management. I'm sorry to say this, but George Steinbrenner must be loving this if he's watching! :D

And one point from being #1 in the entire NHL@ US Thanksgiving which all but 2 teams made the playoffs last year that were within a playoff spot at that time, just saying, and this date is the measuring stick for teams in the NHL as to what type of team they have for the season.... and yea, rumps, it is never to late to learn the great game of hockey, but my buddy OLD pal, you gotta lot of catching up to do, but i think you can do it if you apply yourself bud.

Onto baseball..... Roy Oswalt a red soc? Hmmmmmmmmmmm , this would improve the red sox rotation beyond lester for sure. Joe.t, make a prediction quick!

Iggy, this is a team in transition, GM, gone, Manager, gone, the team in disarray with drinking and eating during ballgames, the infamous September collapse and to add insult to injury you have the Crawford and Lackey saga, if you look at the history of sports any team that has gone through what the Red Sox are going through has struggled the following years, this is a "Fact", as CCF has said this is a perennial 3rd place team for the foreseeable future.

My prediction for AL EAST as of now.

1. Yankees(Montero, Darvish(will be a Yankee), the Yankees will have two of the hottest young studs in baseball.
2. Blue Jays.
3. Tampa/Boston
4. Baltimore.

I simply cannot find anything you said in your post below as false, except for the possibility of the red sox falling to 4th next season, good job, as always :thumb:

You make a lot of sense, Joe T. The Red Sox are probably the team with the MOST disarray in the entire major leagues right now. You've correctly pointed out that they've indeed lost their boy-genius GM, their excellent manager, an assistant coach or two (and more to follow), a very good closer, likely their #1 fan favorite player over the years to free agency, and more........

I'd even go as far as stating that this will be a team struggling to finish in 3rd position come next season. Red Sox nation should face facts: It's time to blow this sinking ship & start rebuilding. If they don't realize this & wait, the Red Sox will struggle for the next decade or two. Frankly speaking, the Red Sox have yet & may not recover from Black September.

As for Darvish, i'm not sold that the Yankees will wind up with him. Of course, they probably will try to outbid everyone else, as has been their custom for the past decades. Toronto could very well wind up with him, but it will be very difficult to compete with the Yankees' deep pockets when it'll be time to sign this well-conveted free agent. My gut-feeling tells me that the Red Sox will not be in the running for Darvish. Why? Easy. Why in hell would he want to pitch for a Mickey Mouse outfit like the Red Sox? Who need all the drama?

It should be an interesting 2012 season, where the likes of NY, Tampa & the Blue Jays will compete for the AL East pennant & one of the wildcards.

When do the odds come out for the upcoming season Mr. T?

I'd rather see the Yankees go after Oswalt than overpay for another hyped Japanese player.
Thanks for the compliments Doc. (note) I wrote my post from a objective viewpoint and not as a Yankee fan.

Hello all,

You make a lot of sense, Joe T.

Red Sox nation should face facts: It's time to blow this sinking ship & start rebuilding. If they don't realize this & wait, the Red Sox will struggle for the next decade or two.

Mark this day, November 23, 2011. The day Doc became a kneeling supplicant to Joe.t.

So you are making predictions for two decades. Rumples this displays to you why I reacted so harshly to having my name linked to Doc when he wants to be more silly than the master of DUH! Incredible Doc. You act like you want to be laughed at.

I totally agree with you. My take on the Sox soap opera is that the blame should not be put on the players, but on upper management. I'm sorry to say this, but George Steinbrenner must be loving this if he's watching! :D

My take has nothing to do with yours. For one, my position is honest and realistic, about straightening out fixable issues...NOT the self-indulgent bitterly angry wishing for the fall of the team.

Steinbrenner is too busy revisiting his nutty fights with Martin, a show that set the standard for psychotic owner-manager dysfunction.

Merlot, please read this for a reasoned, dispassionate view of the Sox' strengths and weaknesses at this point in the offseason. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/offseason-decisions-how-much-change-does-boston-need/

As for me, I'll start worrying if Papi signs elsewhere.

Okay, I read it. At first look it doesn't sound like the situation is going to be different from last year. I'm not inferring anything about collapse, but rather the ability to compete more successfully against the best. The possible addition of Buehrle could be a good idea. Colon, not liking that one. Wakefield, hey I'll always love the guy, but eating innings isn't enough. He was damn ineffective and the cause of too many losses. Jenks...God help us. Matsuzaka will be motivated to prove himself to have future value anywhere else. Drew...have a nice life. Taking the option on Scutaro was a no-brainer.

I am also worried about Papi and the lack of realistic money they offered for him, regardless of the market for DHs. It's such a cut that it looks like an excuse to say, well, we tried without really trying. I believe Crawford will improve significantly between .275 to .280. He knows what he is dealing with now and I believe he has the character and talent to become significant.

One stat I heard that bothers me was the near total lack of late game comebacks by the Sox. If they didn't lead in the 8th in 2011 it was almost a guaranteed loss. The best teams need to do better than that. It's the kind of thing that has to come from the gut, and it's critical. See 2004 ALCS.

To me the stats on Madson look preferable. The idea that any decent pitcher should be able to close for one inning seems pretty logical, but the actual getting it done when it counts most is the issue, not simply a general successful set of numbers. The Sox didn't go out and grab Foulke because the position can be done by any decent pitcher. It matters in crunch time who is closing, regardless of real money value per game or inning.

The team needs a couple of critical pieces and a complete team attitude of dedication. I get the feeling that after the criticism of the September fall, everyone will have a highly competitive attitude.

If Valentine can help keep competitive dedication in every player that's great. Despite the knowledge and skill, the vibes I feel from this guy is that some of his purpose is about craving the spotlight for the sake of it. I'd be very happy to be totally wrong. I hope I am.

Cheers,

Merlot

Are they giving Darvish Dontrelle Willis' number, or is he getting Cliff Lee's? You are one funny dude, Joe.

Who ever though that Doc Holliday would turn into Joe.T's lapdog. We know that iggy regularly sucks Joe.T off in the men's room at Hurley's, but now the Doc, too, has gone all Joe.T. Things must be bad in the Great White North.

Doc, however, is NOT one funny dude. It's more sad to see how far he's fallen. Must come from the anguish that's part of rooting for the Maple Leaves all these years.

Don't forget, we have the strongest front three in the AL, other than TB. We're talking about 4-5 guys. Colon is an acceptable guy at the back end, especially knowing that Dice-K is likely going to be able to give them one last half-season. I like Buehrle as well.

I don't know where you got this information on Papi. Just before you posted this, the Sox offered him arbitration, meaning he will get at least a little raise for next year.

You might want to consider using the ignore function. I no longer look at the swill posted by iggy or daydreamer and my life is better for it. (Maybe someday when iggy writes his first review...) I'm not going to hide Doc or Joe simply because I have a soft spot in my heart for the circus.

Boston is a lock-in for 4th place. They may even get 3rd place if Bobby V. limits the beer to 2 per player and shuts off the tap by the 7th inning.

Ortiz offered arbitration by Red Sox

(ESPN) Finally some good news for Red Sox fans. The Red Sox offered arbitration to Ortiz, reported ESPNBoston.com's Joe McDonald. The two sides have both said they would like a reunion, so this decision was an easy one.

The question now, though, is whether the deal will be a multi-year one or simply the one-year contract as determined via the arbitration process. As SI.com's Jon Heyman tweeted, Ortiz could earn up to $16 million for one year in arbitration, but a two-year deal worth slightly less per year might make both sides happy.

If Ortiz really wants to stay in Boston and the Red Sox really want him back, we could see a deal worked out before the Dec. 7 deadline for players to accept or decline arbitration.

This thread shows how weak you guys are. These players are making millions of dollars and they probably wouldn't give any of you 20 bucks even if you kissed their shoes, and here you guys are fighting and resorting to personal attacks over them. A bunch of weak clowns. Any of the newbies reading through this thread are most likely to lose respect for all you veterans of the board. Don't make us look bad and Man up!
