Suzyn Waldman knows less about baseball than even Joe.T, if such is possible. Jose Reyes is power? Rajai Davis is power? Mark Buehrle is power. RA Dickey is power? Josh Johnson is power?
The Jays brought in one of the best all round players in the game and he got hurt. They brought in three quality starting pitchers and none has pitched particularly well. Suzyn Waldman is a dope.
Burhrle, Dickey and Johnson are pitchers rumps. I think EB was referring to their batting power, like Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, J.P. Arencibia, and maybe Melky Cabrera, who is more of an average hitter, like Jose Reyes.
I sort of disagree with Suzy Waldman. The Blue Jays have a good balanced offensive lineup. They have gotten off to a very poor start. If you look at the St. Louis and San Francisco World Series winning teams the last few years, these teams did not have great regular seasons. They won just enough games and went on to win the World Series. I am not saying the Blue Jays will even be competitive this year, but they have the nucleus to win if not this year, next year. I don't think you can take Toronto for granted. The season is just over a 1/4 played. You can't declare them dead yet.
She was talking about their development of in-organization offensive talent, not the offseason signings and moves they made.
