Yankees 4 out and 4 is nothing at this time of year. There is a lot of choking still to be done by those who will choke. I am not even sure the Yankees need to play great the rest of the way. They just have to be pretty solid.

More proof that MLB's drug testing program is a joke: CHRIS DAVIS.

p.s. If you won't improve your drug testing program & make it efficient, then why bother even having one? What a joke!

BOYZ,

I thought the same thing as Ortiz about Ryan Dempster's actions, it stirred the Yankees team into action:

http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story...an-dempster-plunking-new-york-yankees-slugger

We all said the same thing about the stupidity of Dempster hitting the cheater for the same reason you're now commending Ortiz for. Don't motivate the opponent. I always understood why he should have been tossed out of the game. But a 5-game suspension for throwing at the middle of the body is ridiculous. I predict all the unscrupulous mindless hypocrites who had no problem with Yankees pitchers throwing at Youk's head and never getting suspended will now come in and say this is what Dempster should have gotten. Iggy, Joe, 41? Come on guys, you know what you are. Don't be disappointing. :D

Personally, I'll be happy to see Workman replace Dempster who always seems shaky.

Well, while the Yankees were having another easy time beating up on their favorite patsy punching bags, the Toronto Blue Jays, look who's back if first place again. Funny how a team with holes everywhere, especially leadership according to Doc, keeps popping up in the lead 17 games ahead of the preseason division favorites.

If the Jays had played .500 against the Yanks their season would be over.

Red Sox decimate Giants, reclaim AL East lead

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gametr.../red-sox-decimate-giants-reclaim-al-east-lead

SAN FRANCISCO -- Will Middlebrooks made his major league debut at second base on a day he continued to produce with his bat. That might be a message.

Middlebrooks and Stephen Drew each hit a home run, Jonny Gomes and Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in two runs apiece and the Boston Red Sox beat the San Francisco Giants 12-1 on Wednesday.

"It was a good offensive day," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "We had good production up and down. Will has been swinging the bat well since he's come back to us."

Middlebrooks has reached base in all 11 games since his recall from Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting safely in 10 of them. Farrell said he could be used at second in case anything ever happened to Dustin Pedroia.

In his first appearance at second at any level, Middlebrooks even turned a nifty double play on his first chance, taking the throw from Drew and making the pivot at second.

"That came out of nowhere," Middlebrooks said. "We haven't talked about it. I haven't worked out there. It was a lot of fun, though."

Felix Doubront (9-6) rebounded from a tough outing to pitch eight strong innings for the Red Sox, who have won three of five and entered play in a virtual first-place tie with Tampa Bay in the AL East. Doubront gave up one run on five hits. He walked one and struck out three.

"I spent the last four days working on throwing the ball down in the zone," Doubront said. "I was able to do that and go with my stuff. I was working fast to get the hitters to swing at my pitch."

Cheers,

But a 5-game suspension for throwing at the middle of the body is ridiculous.

Giving a starting pitcher a 5-game suspension is a joke and only amounts to giving him an extra day off or two.

The Red Sox are actually better off with him out of the starting rotation. He sucks!!

On another note, i still predict that the Yankees will catch up to the overachieving Red Sox.

I have to admit: the Yankees have been extremely impressive & if they keep up that pace, Joe Girardi deserves a shot at the manger-of-the-year award.

You wanna go an hour with your/my favorite floozie on this one, Doc. Other than three with the Sox, the Yankees have been feeding on two of the worst teams in baseball for the last week, the Jays and Angels. Let's see how the light hitting Yankees look after a weekend with Price, Cobb, and Archer.

The only place the Yankees will be catching the Sox is on Planet Iggy, in an alternate universe.

I have to admit: the Yankees have been extremely impressive & if they keep up that pace, Joe Girardi deserves a shot at the manger-of-the-year award.
Don't forget, Doc, this is a team with a $230,000,000 payroll. Even without their declining stars on the DL, they've still been running out a team with over $130,000,000 worth of salaries. Yes, even with the injuries, the Yankees field the second highest payroll in baseball. I wouldn't say that Girardi should be fired, but Cashdollar should have been shown the gate years ago.

Imagine this team next year without Pettitte, Hughes, Kuroda, Rivera, Jeter, Cano, and Rodriguez. There's a weak free agent class this year and the Yankees farm system is barren.

Pettite & Kuroda may return next season. If Hughes leaves, they won't miss him much. Jeter will likely be back for at least another season, and i think Cano wants to remain in New York & will sign a long-term deal with the organization. As for A-Rod, i firmly believe he'll play next season. I don't expect the arbitrator to uphold Bud Selig's vendetta against him when the decision is made come November. Rodriguez may miss up to 50 games, but i doubt anything more. Just the fact he was initially offered a shorter suspension if he plead guilty indicates to me that the 200-plus game suspension is nothing but sour grapes on the part of MLB's top dictator.

And finally, i'll say it again: don't be surprised if the Yankees catch up to the Red Sox before this season is over. The Red Sox have been known to choke in September & have overachived all season long. Plus, it's John 'Fucking' Farrell managing this team, not Tito Francona. I can't see any team managed by John Farrell ever making it to a post-season.

No way. Pettitte is in serious decline. He won't want to embarrass himself by returning next year. Kuroda wants to play for a contender; he'll either go back to the Dodgers or return to Japan.

Jeter will likely be back for at least another season, and i think Cano wants to remain in New York & will sign a long-term deal with the organization.
Most of my Yankee fan friends are hoping that Jeter will retire with grace rather than return to a position he can no longer play. How good can an already not very good player be anyway, returning at 40 after missing a year? As for Cano, Jay-Z is looking to make a splash. Cano will go where the money is and there's no way the Yankees will go over five years.

As for A-Rod, i firmly believe he'll play next season. I don't expect the arbitrator to uphold Bud Selig's vendetta against him when the decision is made come November. Rodriguez may miss up to 50 games, but i doubt anything more.
I agree with you here, Doc, though I think the chances are 50/50 that it will be knocked down to 100, rather than 50.

Of all the above, the only one I expect to return is Cano.

The Yankees just have to keep on going.

By the ways, I never knew that PED lozenges existed until I read Ryan Braun's statement today admitting his PED use. Does anyone know what these lozenges taste like? Are they like Luden's cough drops or more like Ricola lozenges?

I thought the same thing when i read the article a few minutes ago.

I was also wondering if cough drops (such as "Halls") or a cough syrup could also be considered as being PED's if they help an athlete peform better in a sport when he'd be usually too ill to play unless he takes the cough drops or cold syrup.

Or what about an athlete who cuts his hand and needs a bandage/dressing to be applied in order to stop the bleeding? In other words, if he keeps on bleeding, he can't play....but with the bandaid or bandage applied, he's okay to play as long as the bleeding is controlled? Technically, could he be dubbed a 'cheater'?

Yes, they do, but unfortunately the Blue Jays have left Yankee Stadium for the last time this year. The Yankees swept the Jays at home, going 10-0. When not playing the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees are 58-59.

Usually, when I watch the Yankees on TV, I'll watch the other team's feed. It's not that I don't like the Yankees' TV broadcast crew, I do. They're all excellent and knowledgeable; it's simply to get something different, hear some different voices.

When I watch the Red Sox, I always watch the Sox feed. Don Orsillo calls a great game and Jerry Remy is an excellent color man. Not tonight, though. Tonight I'll watch the Dodger feed. Unfortunately, tonight is the only night of the weekend where the locals get to call the game; tomorrow and Sunday are both national broadcasts. But tonight, tonight...if you have mlb.tv, don't miss the Dodger feed. There is none better, there has never ever been better than Vin Scully.

And the Dodgers just announced that Vin will be back next year, his 65th season calling their games. I can still hear him now, opening his early broadcasts with, "Ladies and Gentleman, sit back and light up a Lucky, it's time for Brooklyn Dodger baseball."

Here's Vin from 1957. He takes over the mike at 6:43. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w7Kt1vo-3Y

There are a couple of thing that no amount of PEDs will enable. They may help a player hit a ball harder and farther, but they will not help a player get his bat on the ball. They may help a pitcher throw harder, but they'll do nothing for his command. And they'll do nothing to improve a player's defense. I'm not prepared to say that the whole PED controversy is much ado about nothing, but I do believe that it's significantly overblown.

Boyz,

...and the WHINEY DELUSIONAL BITTER LIARS AWARD goes to...CARL CRAWFORD. :whoo: :peace:

http://nesn.com/2013/08/red-sox-dod...ord-to-move-on-stop-complaining-about-boston/

I just heard on WEEI while driving home good ole Carl still carries a lot of anger over his stay in Boston. According to WEEI he complains about the pressure to go 4-5 every day, hit a ton of home runs, and otherwise play like a superstar. This alleged pressure is the same one he happily embraced when he signed his contract and said:

“I’m very excited. I’m definitely excited about coming to Boston,” the new $100 million man said. “I wanted to go somewhere where people actually wanted to have me here.

He was ready for the challenge of playing in Boston, he said. He was ready for everything he’s complaining about. It’s what he said he wanted. “I’m definitely ready for that,” he added. “That’s one thing that attracted me to this. You know it’s going to be sold out, you know there’s going to be excitement.”

Really Carl. Sox fans just hoped for a reasonable facsimile of the Tampa Bay Crawford, not a combined reincarnation of Ruth, Mays, and Williams. As our Doc Holliday said on a daily basis, YOU SUCKED and that was the problem, on top of sitting out most of the second season with an injury of questionable severity.

The outfielder only ended up playing 161 total games with the Red Sox and made about $30 million to do so. He hit just .260 with a .292 on-base percentage. His signature speed was nowhere to be found, as he swiped just 23 bases after combining to steal 107 in his final two seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays. Crawford boasted 6.9 wins over replacement during his final season in Tampa, only to combine for a 0.6 WAR in his two-ish seasons with the Sox.

All Sox fans wanted was a player with desire for the game and something somewhere near the player who hit .300 nearly every year instead of the disconnected sub .260 moper.

Get a clue Carl, your attitude and performance were terrible...and you're still a prize winning whiner blaming others for your own failings.

In 25 games with the Yankees coming into tonight, Alfonso Soriano has 9 homers and 28 RBIs in just 98 at bats. This is some good stuff.

A-Rod, meanwhile, is hitting .276 with a .373 OBP. Some good stuff.

With these two and Reynolds, the right side of the plate is fortified with power.

You know, you can play Toronto and Anaheim only so much.

Boy, is A-Rod slow in the field. The poor slob can barely get out of his own way. The Tampa announcers are talking about how some teams may start bunting him to death. With a 6 run lead, the Rays won't be bunting tonight, but watch them tomorrow. Some bad stuff.

Four dingers off Kuroda tonight. Some bad stuff.
