I have 100% faith in Shanny and Babs now that they are out of that cesspool known as detroit.

Very classy mocking a city that's suffering an economic downturn especially considering Toronto owes its size and fleeting prosperity to Rene Levesque.

I guess Leaf fans are exactly like the team you cheer for, just when you think they can't sink any lower they surprise you and do exactly that.

You angry again, Cairo?? Don't you ever smile, buddy? You must be the most miserable person on this board!

Not at all. I just dislike hypocritical rulebreaking posers and I feel it's my duty to point out the facts to counteract all the laughable BS that is sometimes posted.

I have 100% faith in Shanny and Babs now that they are out of that cesspool known as detroit. I bet they feel like they won the lottery, going from that hell hole to now living in the GTA.

Weren't you the guy who posted yesterday about trolling, baiting, and posting in the wrong (non-free-for-all) thread?

Yeah, I thought so.

Maybe you should go buy a mirror. While you're at it, buy a second one and give it to your close friend Holliday.

Always loved Burke and still do... they fired him too soon and Nonis was not a good leader, it happens. I have 100% faith in Shanny and Babs now that they are out of that cesspool known as detroit. I bet they feel like they won the lottery, going from that hell hole to now living in the GTA.

A little contradiction perhaps? You "always loved Burke" and "they fired him too soon". Well, HOW does that correlate to having "100% faith in Shanny and Babs" when they are UNDOING EVERYTHING Burke did?

Answer: It doesn't!

It is no secret that Kadri became a much better overall player last year by becoming defensively responsible more so than his previous seasons even if the numbers dont show it, just as Don Cherry ;) cmon cairo, learn some hockey.

I can't wait to see how much better this kid can be under the excellent tutelage of MISTER Babcock :D

This is called rationalization. After you look "rationalization" up in the dictionary, your next step should be to find a book on grammar and read about the correct use of capital letters.

As for "learn some hockey", anyone who has read the various hockey threads over the years has undoubtedly formed an opinion on YOUR hockey knowledge versus MY hockey knowledge. I will let them be the judges.

A huge thumbs up to Voyageur 11, Anon Vlad, Ballsamic, G1GBallday, and Sol Tee Nutz:thumb:

It's very gratifying to see well-crafted, factual posts from mature adults who do not have to resort to childish insults and can politely engage in civilized and intelligent discussion.

Look behind you.
The oilers will do so much better this year new gm, new coach ,another first choice

Edmonton is finally pumped about hockey again. The new world class arena after next season is also a treat. Also to note an improved defense and goaltending which we were in dire need of.

It is not the first time it appears. Read what i wrote, "they fired him too early" They were on the verge of something good and new management let their own ego get in the way and Nonis simply is a follower not a leader. People have been hammering for a complete rebuild for years and years and it is finally here so most fans are embracing it with open arms. It is under excellent guidance under Shanny/Hunter and the legend Mike Babcock and i for one could not be more pleased.

Now excuse me vladdy as i have thank you's to write and another AWESOME Party to plan for good guys and sexy ladies ;)
I don't understand.

So happy for the Oilers fans to finally have something to get excited about again, just hope they stay humble and not act like they are entitled year after year (it they do indeed become good) like habs fans.

Should be some exciting times ahead out west. Still not sure they are a playoff team as they stand today, one or two more additions tho and they could be. I still think they should trade one or two of Hall/RNH/Eberle/Yakapuv for upgrades elsewhere, namely defense. Good luck STN! Going to any games this season?

Excellent post as always MISTER Holliday! It is refreshing to have your insight around here. You are without a doubt the #1 hockey mind on Merb. Keep up the good work MISTER Hockey! :D
New management team. New goals, new objectives. A new vision.
It depends. Just look at Chicago. Pittsburgh. Washington.

I never said that it was NOT an important goal. Making the playoffs is a goal. The ultimate goal is winning the Stanley Cup, and to get there, you have to make the playoffs. But in reality, an organization's success is the bottom line: PROFITS. Since the Leafs bring in hundreds of millions of dollars to MLSE and its shareholders year after year, making as much money as possible is actually THE most important goal of any professional organization.

It began on the day the Leafs hired the best coach in hockey, Mike Babcock.

It depends. Rebuilds are never alike. Some can take years, others less. They should last as long as needed.

f the habs and Bruins haven't already done so, then the answer is no. The habs would love to buy out the likes of Markov and Plekanec. Boston would love to buy out the likes of Chara and Rask.

Cojones is something that Leafs fans (especially those on this board) absolutely have. They tell it like it is. They are blunt and honest. They will never back off from a challenge.

No, what is really funny and pathetic (aka sad) is someone who comes to a escort review board only to troll and shit disturb in 99.9% of his posts in sports threads and never offer ANYTHING back to the community with reviews or helpful hints to his fellow hobbyists or peers (the ladies as well as the guys around here) in anyway whatsoever. All take and no give all the time, what a shame.

". What is really funny

and pathetic is, by resorting to name calling, most especially Joelcairo, you feel you won the challenge.

Whenever I am near, a friend of mine has season tickets in the reds. And yes, I was always humble when the Oilers were in their glory years, as we know nothing lasts forever.

EDIT: Need to add, I am never humble to close friends that are Flames fans. Believe me I have in return taken a pounding from them the past many years.

New management team. New goals, new objectives. A new vision.

Aka spinning your wheels to nowhere.

It depends. Just look at Chicago. Pittsburgh. Washington.

How can winners possibly be connected to Toronto?

Since the Leafs bring in hundreds of millions of dollars to MLSE and its shareholders year after year, making as much money as possible is actually THE most important goal of any professional organization.

I'm getting up a petition to NHL to have Leafs fans officially awarded the masochists of the century trophy. I believe absolutely in merit and DAMN...if you Leafs boys haven't earned that.

It began on the day the Leafs hired the best coach in hockey, Mike Babcock.

New leader...the same old cellar dwellars.

It depends. Rebuilds are never alike. Some can take years, others less. They should last as long as needed.

Yes, 5 decades in the case of the Leafs. Not nearly enough yet.

If the habs and Bruins haven't already done so, then the answer is no. The habs would love to buy out the likes of Markov and Plekanec. Boston would love to buy out the likes of Chara and Rask.

The Leafs would love win to a playoff series. ;)

Cojones is something that Leafs fans (especially those on this board) absolutely have. They tell it like it is. They are blunt and honest. They will never back off from a challenge.

No doubt about that. It takes mountainous cajones to keep saying the Leafs are building toward a championship after embarrassment after embarrassment after embarrassment. But at least you are honest about cheating to dump games for a higher pick...back to the cajones on this one.

They will never back off from a challenge.

Yup, the Timex brothers take a beating and keep going back for more.

...the most well known NHL Franchise in league history,... :noidea:

INDEED, well known for and Officially known as the worst sports franchise in the entire history of the American continent. That's stunning considering the Cubs haven't won a championship in 107 years. You've really got to put your heart into earning THE ultimate low-light.

Bravo,

Merlot

Here's the Doc's offseason report card of the hockey thread's most prominent members. Grades are determined by every member's value to the hockey thread and the board:

Joel Cairo: A very angry and negative person. He's probably the most miserable person to ever appear on the entire board. He cheers for Detroit, so it may explain why. Detroit is one of the worst cities in North America. We noticed that he got angrier and easily irritated since the day Mike Babcock finally escaped Detroit hell. But my buddy Cairo can be entertaining, so he gets a passing mark for this and the fact he knows a bit about the game of hockey. Grade: C-

Voyageur11: His knowledge of hockey seems to be fair at best. He sometimes is very difficult to read & understand, and it seems to irritate him when he feels misunderstood. The jury is still out on his value to the hockey thread and the board. Likely a habs fan. Grade: D

Igna69xxx: Has tremendous hockey knowledge. He's a die-hard Leafs fan and wears the maple leaf on his chest. He often outwits those who disagree with him. He's very difficult to intimidate and has the ability to turn the tables on his detractors. His value to the hockey thread and the board in general is invaluable. The jury is out on whether his knowledge of hockey is as good as his ability to organize great parties. I call it even. Grade: A+

anon_vlad: His presence in the hockey thread is somewhat bizarre. He doesn't bring anything to the threads. He doesn't bring much to the board in general. He's constantly negative and rarely posts something interesting. It's not even known if he's actually a hockey fan. Maybe his sole purpose is to disturb & be sarcastic. Grade: D-

Ballsamic: A negative presence in the hockey thread. We're not sure what he brings to the board. He's likely a habs fan. His sole purpose in the hockey thread is to attempt to antagonize Leafs fans. It seems all he tries to achieve is to disturb & annoy. Grade: F

Sol Tee Nutz: An interesting poster in the hockey threads. He is an Edmonton Oilers fan and isn't shy to tell us about it. He's fair and honest about his team. His presence is good for the hockey thread. Grade: B

G1GBallday: Useless in the hockey thread. Similar to others like him, his sole purpose seems to instigate, disturb and be sarcastic. Not as negative as Joel Cairo, but close. He's obviously a habs fan. If he'd stop posting in the hockey thread, likely no one would notice. Grade: F

Merlot: Oh boy! He's a Bruins fan, and this isn't very flattering to the Boston Bruins organization. His presence in the hockey thread and on this board seems only to instigate and argue with anyone who doesn't see eye-to-eye with him. In other words, if you're not a fan of the same sports teams he cheers for, he totally disrespects you. And when you give him a taste of his own medecine, he more often than not will go crying to the moderator(s). Merlot is one of the most disliked characters throughout the board. He must enjoy this 'honor'. He is also the most irritating poster to read since his posts are way too long. Instead of quoting a sentence, he will not only quote an entire paragraph, but will often quote the entire post. He believes he knows something about hockey, but in reality he doesn't know much. A 12-year old hockey fan knows more about hockey than him. If he'd stop posting in the hockey thread (or any other thread), everyone would notice.....and find instant relief. Grade: F

Doc Holliday: The boy wonder of the hockey thread. The doc is the most knowledgeable hockey expert this board ever had. Several have suggested to him that he have his own column in The Hockey News. He has many contacts around the NHL and media. He's outscooped the very best out there: McKenzie, Friedman, Lavoie, Kyprios, Fischler, Brooks, etc. He's invaluable to the hockey thread & this board in general. He's funny and honest. He tells it like it is, just like his idol Howard Cosell. Without the doc, there likely wouldn't be any hockey threads. The only other member to come close to him is his good buddy Igna69xxx. When and if the Doc ever retires from this board, his successor will easily be Mister 69. Grade: A+

Other posters in the hockey thread:

They all get an 'F' since they haven't attended classes often enough.

Here's the Doc's offseason report card of the hockey thread's most prominent members. Grades are determined by every member's value to the hockey thread and the board:

Thanks for your opinion. Now, here is a much more accurate report card:

Joel Cairo: Unlike Holliday, I have the class not to brag about myself. I will let the readers decide. I will, however, point out that Holliday's nonsensical comments about me being "a very angry and negative person" are typical Holliday: in other words, totally fabricated and inaccurate BS.

Voyageur 11: A fan who contributes by exposing the BS constantly put forth by a certain poster. Grade: B.

Igna69xx: Has difficulty with spelling and grammar. Idolizes Holliday and is quick to defend him no matter WHAT Holliday has said. Uses the Holliday strategy of attacking the poster because he lacks the ability to debate politely, intelligently and factually. Has NEVER EVER criticized a single move by the Leafs and refuses to admit that mistakes were ever made by his beloved franchise...despite the overwhelming evidence of the last 48 years. Brags at the start of every season about how great his team is and then DISAPPEARS from the hockey threads as soon as his beloved heroes have their annual collapse. Inaccurately accuses other posters of the exact sins he and his idol are guilty of. Loved the Clarkson signing. Loved Burke. Loved the Nathan "Never Play Again" Horton signing. His idea of wit is to spell the names of other teams or cities without capital letters. Brings nothing of value to the hockey threads. Grade: F.

Anon Vlad: Always speaks intelligently and accurately. Asks probing questions. Clearly knows hockey. Grade: A.

Ballsamic: Knows BS when he sees it and is not afraid to point out the obvious. Grade: A.

Sol Tee Nutz: A class act and the sole Oilers supporter. A bright future for his team, and he's always honest enough to admit its shortcomings (UNLIKE Leaf fans). Grade: A minus.

G1GBallday: Honest, perceptive and witty. Grade: A.

Merlot: A bit too much of an apologist for Boston teams, and probably better versed in baseball and football than in hockey, but presents a detailed fact-referencing analysis of his opinions. Grade: B.

Doc Holliday: Does know his hockey - give him credit. Unfortunately, he lacks in politeness and honesty. He has made numerous statements that he subsequently claimed never to have said, despite the fact that various posters have seen - and often even QUOTED the proof. He likes to brag - sometimes with good reason, but often not. When he cannot intelligently oppose a different point of view, he personally insults the poster, usually with wildly inaccurate and ridiculous claims. Somehow, in spite of the board's rules, he usually gets away with this. He considers himself an armchair psychologist but is usually WAY off the mark - in fact, like the president of his fan club, he usually fits the profile of what he accuses others of. Unlike his disciple, however, he does at least have the guts to stick around when his Leafs collapse, and he is capable of reasonable spelling and grammar. He does provide value both by contributing some useful information and by providing impetus for debate. Too bad about his negative qualities. Grade: C+

And Two That Holliday Missed:

Gohabsgo: Someone who obviously knows hockey and who also has an excellent BS detector plus the guts and integrity to expose such BS. Grade: A

Wolfie7: Great taste in hockey teams, excellent hockey knowledge, good attitude. Grade: A.
