I'm far from elated DD and know exactly what we have in Boston this season, although, I'm still basking in the 2013 World Series Championship that this team brought home last year!!!! That is amazing and can't be taken away. How sweeeeeeeeet it is!

The Yankees did lose a tough one yesterday, by a score of 6-5. David Phelps started for the Yankees and allowed 4 earned runs in only 5 innings. Manager Joe Girardi had seen enough and pulled him at the 70-pitch count.

Future hall-of-famer Derek Jeter was back in the lineup and went 1-for-5. He's hitting a miserable .250. He should have retired last season.

Jacoby Ellsbury went 1-for-4 and is hitting just over .300.

Carlos Beltran entered the game late and went 0-for-2. He's only hitting .240. Obvously, his best years are behind him.

Alfonso Soriano didn't start & went 0-for-1 in a pinch-hitting role. He's hitting a miserable .242 and he also is at the tail-end of his career.

The other old guy, Suzuki, went 0-for-2. He still has a great batting average, but the fact is that he's a singles hitter playing the outfield. With the likes of Brett Gardiner, Jacoby Ellsbury & Ichiro Suzuki, the Yankees must lead the lead in having an outfield consisting mostly of singles hitters.

Brian McCann, the guy the Yankees are paying a gazilion dollars, didn't play once again. He's turning out to be a major bust & has already begun to give Hank Steinbrenner more gray hair.

The bottom line is that the Yankees could have won this game but let it slip by them. They're now 2 games above .500 and i'm still betting that they'll end up in last place.

In other news, the Red Sox won behind the solid pitching of John Lackie, the slumping Tampa Bay Rays lost again, and of course, the LA Angels beat the Jays.

I was watching the Yankees-Mets game tonight and was shocked to see Bobby Abreu in the Mets lineup as their DH. I could not believe he is still playing in the major leagues. He is now in his 40s. The Yankees had him 6-7 years ago when he was at the end of the line. The Mets also started Bartolo Colon tonight, another guy in his 40s that the Yankees had about 5 years ago at the end of the line.

I am pretty sure both of these guys have played the requisite 10 years in the majors so they don't need to hang on for pensions, that is already vested.

I was also as shocked as you! Shocked that they weren't in the Yankees lineup considering their age! :D

Yankees lost again.....9-7 to the lowly Mets

The Yankees managed to get outslugged by the lowly NY Mets last night at Yankee Stadium and lost by a score of 9-7.

Jacoby Ellsbury is definitely in a serious slump. He went 0-for-5 with two K's and is now hitting .295. If the Yankees can't get his bat going soon, they'll be in big trouble.

Free agent bust Carlos Beltran went 0-for-3 and is now hitting only .234.

Free agent disaster Brian McCann went 1-for-5 and is now hitting an embarrassing .213. He's lucky George Steinbrenner ain't alive anymore. He'd likely send his million dollar ass to Columbus!

But there were some good news: Derek Jeter went 3-for-4 and hot-hitting Yang Solarte went also went 3-for-4 to raise his average to .330. Who needs A-Roid?

Veteran Japanese import Hiroki Kuroda didn't help the Yankees cause in allowing 4 earned runs in just 6 innings of work. But he wasn't credited with the loss since the bullpen stunk the joint. The slumping Yankees are now only one game above .500.

In other news, the Blue Jays finally won against the Angels behind ace Mark Buehrle's strong effort in getting his 7th win of the season. Star outfielder Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, which included a 3-run bomb in the first inning to raise his average to a very respectable .300.

Good news on the Jays' side was the return of Brett Lawrie to the lineup. Even better, they've welcomed back closer Casey Janssen to the team for his first appearance of the season. On the negative side, power-hitting Colby Rasmus left the game due to injury & wasn't able to face his brother, who came on in relief for the Angels. Jose Reyes was kept out of the game to rest his sore hip, injured during a slide at home in Sunday's game.

Pitching ace Mark Buehrle leads the league & he's off to the best start of his career.

I'm curious how former Yankee Curtis Granderson fared against his old team? ;)

Question SK?

Whatever happened to all of those...Yanks in first Sox in last...feather puffing statements? Have they turned out to be the total BS we knew they were? Maybe Joe.t can take time out from all of those naked Tanaka pics to look at the standings.

BTW...It's nice to see Beav posting for a couple of days. The way thing are going I feel another of his self-imposed sabbaticals is imminent.

Cheers,

Merlot

Speaking of 'Grandy', he just hit a 3-run homerun in the first inning against his former team. They were leading 4-0 after one, but the Yankees have just scored 3 runs of their own. Incredible to say, but Brian McCann has just hit a 2-run homerun for the Yankees. Of course, these are the Mets that they're playing against. It should be another long game with a lot of runs being scored.

The Yankees pitcher ain't doing much better. Some guy named "Nuno" which i've never heard of, has already thrown 67 pitches after 3 innings & allowed 5 runs. It looks like Alfredo Aceves might be entering the game in an inning or two. I suppose Girardi will make him pitch until his arm falls off. He's pitched over the past 3 consecutive games or so.

On another note, Girardi's got Ellsbury hitting 3rd. I don't ever remember him not hitting leadoff in the last couple of years. Maybe he figures he'll have less pressure to get on base might get him out of his slump. Currently, he's 0-for-2. And surprisingly, he's got Soriano playing right field. I guess he got tired of Carlos Beltran's unproductive bat. But i'm also guessing that he's praying that not too many balls go Soriano's way.

Mets leading 5-3, bottom of the third.

In other news, Jays currently leading Justin Masterson & the Indians by a score of 5-1 in the 6th inning. They've just chased Masterson from the game with only one out. R.A. Dickey has pitched extremely well so far & Juan Francisco hit a bomb against Masterson in the last inning. The Jays have had an extremely difficult time beating Masterson over the past couple of seasons. Jose Reyes is back from missing a game & the only injured player is Colby Rasmus, who's nursing a sore hamstring since yesterday. Kevin Pillar is taking his spot in the lineup, currently having a very good season at AAA.

Update: Mets now leading the Yankees 7-3 in the 4th inning. Alfredo Aceves just entered the game.

Not a single post to mention that the Yankees are down 3 starters right now. It is not easy to win playing 2 on 5.

Pretty sure the Yanks aren't the only team in MLB dealing with injuries this season ;) You sure that's the excuse you want to use?

Time for my game day report..........

The slumping Yankees lost again against their lowly cross-town rivals, the Mets. That's two in a row where they got bombed by the Mets. Some bum named "Nuno" started for the Yankees and barely lasted 3 innings. His nickname must be "El Nuno". The bullpen didn't do any better. Girardi got kicked out of the game once again for arguing balls and strikes. What is he trying to accomplish here? Doesn't he know it's an automatic ejection if you do this? I feel for him. He's stuck managing a bunch of old has-beens and the only way to go with such a lineup is down. He'll likely get fired after this season & the wrong guy (Cashman) will get to keep his job for another season. Poor Joe!

The positive: Gardner and Solarte did their job. Gardner was leading off, but Solarte was hitting 7th. Why?? He's one of your best hitters!! Other good news: Brian McCann got 3 hits including a homerun and raised his average to a miserable .230. So things are looking up!

The bad: Other than the pitching, Jeter was hitless once again. Not only was he hitless, but Ellsbury was also shutout at the plate. His average has now sunk to .291. Still not bad, but consider that two weeks ago, he was among the league leaders in that department. Other bad news: Texeira and Soriano both went 1-for-5. This is embarrassing considering the kind of money Steinbrenner pays them!

I say it again: The Yankees will finish in last place in the AL East.

Other news:

The Boston Red Sox lost against the Minnesota Twins. They were trailing the entire game, but came back to tie the Twins. But in the bottom of the 9th, some guy named Parmalee hit a walk-off two-run homerun to win the game. Jake Peavy started for the Sox and didn't look good, leaving the game with barely 4 innings played. The bullpen was okay until Andrew Miller allowed that game-ending 2-run homer.

The hitting star of the game for the Red Sox was Big Pappi, who hit two homeruns and drove in 4. He went 4-for-5 at the plate. Pedroia only got one hit. He's in a slump. Victorino got three hits and raised his average to .300. Napoli went hitless again and is hitting only .266. Is he injured? Grady Sizemore had a hit and is now hitting .232. Why Farrell has him hitting 5th in the lineup, God knows why. But having seen Farrell managing in the past, why am i surprised?

X. Bogaertz had a hit and is hitting .252. Wade Middlebrooks, who really should be in the minors, went hitless and is now hitting an embarrassing .197. In other words, the Sox have big problems on the left side of their infield. Hitting last, the light-hitting Jackie Bradley Jr., who got a hit and raised his average to a miserable .219. Why they're ruining this kid by not giving him more seasoning in the minors, God knows why. I could blame Farrell, but Cherington shares a large part of the responsibility in this matter. Send the poor kid to the minors where he belongs before it's too late!

And finally in other news, the Blue Jays finally beat Justin Masterson last night. They beat Terry Francona's Cleveland Indians by a score of 5-4. Other than resting centerfielder Colby Rasmus (hamstring injury), they finally got to play with a near-full lineup. They all contributed other than the kid they brought up from the minors to replace Rasmus. Indeed, Kevin Pillar went hitless and looked terrible at the plate every time he struck out. Big difference between the minors and the majors.

R.A. Dickey got the win in pitching a very strong 6 innings. With a bit more luck (and a better bullpen), he'd have a better record. Good news: Recently re-activated closer Casey Janssen got the save & looked good out there.
