You missed my point gurgeh but no big deal.

No, I got you SK. Maybe other people panic, but I've seen the Yanks pull rainbows out of their assholes one too many times to write them off so soon. You never know with those guys...

No team since 1900 has had their pitchers go hit less to start a season than the 2014 NY Mets

65 at bats

We finally got a hit tonight:amen:

Great game so far in Queens

This Betances guy just struck out 6 in a row

And both starters were first time MLB pitchers who both pitched great

Best Regards

Whitley does not have overpowering stuff but looks like he knows how to pitch. The kid for the Mets, de Grom, does have overpowering stuff. The Mets have some good young arms and if they can develop them they will be very good in 2-3 years.

It's unfortunate that the Yankees don't play the Mets every day. If so, they might manage to play .500 ball throughout the season & whomever they start would look better than reality. People shouldn't get carried away or over-enthusiastic. These were the lowly Mets, after all.

I'll say it again: THE NEW YORK YANKEES WILL FINISH IN LAST PLACE THIS SEASON.

Doc's Friday night game report:

Alright, folks. It's time for my weekly Friday night baseball report......

First off, the Yankees' game against Pittsburgh was rained out. That's a good thing for the Yankees since even though they finally beat the Mets last night, they haven't been playing well lately.

Now let's talk about the Red Sox/Tigers game, which was a great game! Final was 1-0 for the visiting Detroit Tigers. The Red Sox totally wasted a very good pitching effort on the part of their pitchers who only allowed 6 hits to the Tigers. The ace of the staff, John Lester, only allowed 4 hits and 1 earned run in 5 innings. He did allow 3 walks. That run came in the top of the first inning. The rest of the staff did even better by only allowing 2 hits the rest of the way.

However, the Red Sox bats were silent ONCE AGAIN. They only managed 3 hits. Three hits!!!!!! All 3 singles were against pitcher Matt Scherzer, who pitched a strong 6 innings. The bullpen was flawless. THREE HITS!!!!!!!

Pedroia went hitless again, Grady Sizemore went 0-for-4 and is hitting only .234. Why Farrell has this guy hitting 2nd in the batting order is totally bewildering if you ask me! But of course, this is John Farrell....not Terry Francona managing the Red Sox. Ortiz had a single, the slumping Mike Napoli went hitless & is now hitting .252, "Humphrey" Bogaerts was hitless again and is hitting .254, the extremely light-hitting Jackie Bradley Jr. was also held hitless (what's new?) and he's now hitting a miserable .200, and another guy who should be in the minors, Wade Middlebrooks, was also hitless (surprise-surprise!!) and is now hitting an embarrassing .197. ONE NINETY-SEVEN!!!!!!! Free agent A.J. Pierzienski didn't catch....David Ross was given the start and he got one hit.

Alright, that's enough with the light-hitting Red Sox.

The Toronto Blue Jays were in Texas tonight & were facing one of the league's best pitchers, Japanese superstar Yu Darvish. Darvish pitched great, but not as great as Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison, whom i've said before reminds me of a young Roy Halladay. Hutchison had his best outing of the season (and of all Jays pitchers) by going the distance & scattering only 3 hits. He struck-out 6 and walked only 1 batter. He was absolutely brilliant!! The Jays got all their runs in the 8th off a 2-run double by Melky Cabrera, who's been among the league's best hitters this season. Final score: Toronto 2 Texas 0.

In other news, the Baltimore Orioles beat the KC Royals and are barely hanging on to first place in the East.

Tomorrow night, the Jays will send their ace Mark Buehrle against Robbie Ross. Buehrle will be going for his 8th win of this young season and will hope to improve on his 2.04 ERA.

Go Jays!!

Fan Falls Down Elevator Shaft At Fenway, Seriously Injured

According to this report, a 22 year old woman fell 2 floors down an elevator shaft and onto the roof of the elevator after the elevator doors unexpectedly opened and she either walked into the shaft, or was leaning on the elevator doors:

http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/10945622/fan-hurt-fenway-park-elevator-shaft-fall

What makes no sense to me is why the 4th floor elevator doors would have opened when the elevator was on the 2nd floor. The doors are not supposed to open until the elevator arrives at your floor. Apart from that are the questions of why she was leaning against the elevator doors, if in fact she was, or why she would have walked into the shaft when the elevator had not yet arrived.

These are questions that the Boston police and elevator safety experts will need to answer. I hope someone also analyzes the 911 tape to see how this got called in and by whom.

If the All Star game was today, it is possible the Yankees would have 4 pitchers on the roster. (should be probable but so many great pitchers these days) Tanaka, Robertson, Warren and Betances are all worthy of being All Stars so far after 1/4th of the season.

Speaking of Pitching, great outing today by David Phelps. Also it looks as tho big Mark Texiera is back in form after a horrible 2013 season. The Yanks need him and his bat and glove as well for that matter.

Time for my game day report..........

The slumping Yankees lost again against their lowly cross-town rivals, the Mets. That's two in a row where they got bombed by the Mets. Some bum named "Nuno" started for the Yankees and barely lasted 3 innings. His nickname must be "El Nuno". The bullpen didn't do any better. Girardi got kicked out of the game once again for arguing balls and strikes. What is he trying to accomplish here? Doesn't he know it's an automatic ejection if you do this? I feel for him. He's stuck managing a bunch of old has-beens and the only way to go with such a lineup is down. He'll likely get fired after this season & the wrong guy (Cashman) will get to keep his job for another season. Poor Joe!

The positive: Gardner and Solarte did their job. Gardner was leading off, but Solarte was hitting 7th. Why?? He's one of your best hitters!! Other good news: Brian McCann got 3 hits including a homerun and raised his average to a miserable .230. So things are looking up!

The bad: Other than the pitching, Jeter was hitless once again. Not only was he hitless, but Ellsbury was also shutout at the plate. His average has now sunk to .291. Still not bad, but consider that two weeks ago, he was among the league leaders in that department. Other bad news: Texeira and Soriano both went 1-for-5. This is embarrassing considering the kind of money Steinbrenner pays them!

I say it again: The Yankees will finish in last place in the AL East.

Again, I will reiterate, "WAGER"?, oops!!, never mind Doc, I keep forgetting, betting is forbidden on MERB, not that you would have the guts to make those bets.

Excellent analyses of the Red Sox Doc but I wouldn't exactly call them the "light hitting Red Sox", the light, light, light, light, light, light, light, light hitting Red Sox is more like it, the Red Sox are a miserable 21st overall in all of baseball in hitting and 12th in the AL out of 15 teams while the Yankees are 2nd in the AL and 3rd overall in all of baseball which is surprising and very impressive, also congratulations go out to the Yankee pitchers on back to back shutouts and giving up only one measly run in the last 27 innings, great pitching by the Yankees.

Sorry, i'm not wealthy enough to afford myself the luxury of wagering. However, i have wagered several times on some of my trips to Las Vegas & i lost every time. I have, therefore, learned my lesson in regards to wagering. However, i may change my mind next week when i hit the Vegas casinos for a few days. ;)

Here Yu Darvish drops the hammer and strikes out Adam Lind with a 63 mph eephus pitch (video in body of article):

Thanks for posting this. I happened to watch that game, but i don't remember that particular pitch. I was out barbecuing some italian sausages at the time, so it probably occurred during one of those moments when i stepped out to roll them over.

Darvish had some 'sick' stuff in that game. The only reason he didn't get the win is because he was slightly outpitched by his counterpart (Drew Hutchison), who wound up pitching a complete game shutout.

Hey, Doc! If nobody else is going to call you on this, I will. There isn't the slightest chance in hell that this is going to happen.

Not a chance in hell?? Really?? Let's here your pick on whom will finish in last place in that division & your reasoning why.
