I am not sure there is a record to relinquish since Aaron has the record still in the eyes of many. But Bonds never failed a drug test and Braun did. Big difference. By the time Braun came around rules and testing were in place that were not in place most of Bonds' career.
Well, Beav, justice in Ryan Braun's story would be a 10 HR, 65 RBI, .240 BA with more than 150 games played. He would have lost that suit against Sasson, and that's why he didn't sue. I agree he's been a dirt bag for lying, etc. Hopefully, baseball will be more aggressive in drug testing individuals so players won't even think about taking PED's. PED's are the main issue, are they not? Remember, there's been very few PED abusers who have admitted they have taken the drugs. Drug addicts are known to be liars. So what's the shock that Braun is a liar? It goes with the territory. He makes 9 million a year. He has a lot to protect, especially if he is just an average player and with PED's, he's a very good player.
We all know that Bonds took PED's. He was a skinny kid when he played for the Pirates. He was good, but not Hank Aaron good. A few years into his career he looked like the incredible hulk with a little head. We all know he took drugs. I bolded the difference. Barry Bonds didn't have to take many drug tests.
There were no rules against it and lots of other guys did it. Ryan Braun broke rules that were established. There is a big difference between Braun giving back his MVP and asking others to do so. Braun failed tests and broke rules multiple times.
That's why I have been saying PED's has been a baseball problem for a long time. Braun has been in the big leagues since 2007. This is his 8th year. He's said to have used PED's since college, which means, if true. he's been using for 10 to 12 years?

Baseball did nothing. So you have these veterans who followed in their footsteps who also used it for most or all of their careers. So all of the sudden they stop it, because baseball reverses course? They should have stopped it in the mid 1990's. Baseball has a lot of guilt here and you won't place the blame where it should lie.

I enjoyed your countdown of every game last year right up to the 162nd game saying it was too early to know how the Sox would do, as well as your predictions throughout the playoffs that the Sox had no chance to win the World Series for 2013. Still think so???
It would be a nice change if people forgot rivalry more often and replaced it with honest assessment. Why is it some Yankees fans are totally incapable of speaking honestly. Almost two weeks ago one Yankees fan called up WEEI saying he was very happy to have Ellsbury because he is better than Cano. OMG. In 2011 the comparison would have been close, but otherwise no Yankees fan in his right mind would say Ellsbury was a better producer than Cano based on hitting.
So far the Yankees hitting has resembled last year in this tiny sampling, an inability to produce runs much of the time. Yeah, we know it's only the second game. Sure the Houston pitcher was ON last night, but it's still hard not to smirk about them losing two in a row to a team that was so bad last year.
Meanwhile, I'm very happy with both Lester and Lackey. The "L" boys were tough, and Lackey continues to throw strikes at a superb rate of better than 3-1 versus balls, between 75-80%.
Also, the word is building about Xander Bogaerts having outstanding ability to discern when pitches are in and out of the strike zone, along with his confidence and nerves of steal to layoff great pitches that look like strikes but aren't no matter if he's down in the count, as demonstrated against Jimenez last night. He's being compared to Wade Boggs in those skills. Oh my, another player who may get 200 hits per season. :thumb:
God bless Dustin Pedroia too. He went all of last year with damaged fingers, and now that problem is over. WATCH OUT!
Didn't he also pull an A-Rod swearing to the fans he would never even consider using steroids and begging the fans to believe in his integrity. His kind should be banned.
