So the Skankees shut down Tanaka for a minimum of 6 weeks but likely the season for Tommy John surgery and not a peep from the kool-aid drinkers here. Hahahaha. Love the Skank fans!! Any minimal chance of making the playoffs have just been completely dashed!! Looking forward to my Le Boucan Iggy! ;)

But they did trade for Canadian Jeff Francis, whom i had falsely believed to be retired until today. He once was a promising pitcher, but that was ages ago.

They also waived reliever Jim Miller, who was absolutely awful the other night. The other day, i saw this picture of Miller & immediately it reminded me of a mugshot. Stick a licence plate onto his chest & yikes!!!

It'll be a long hot summer in the Bronx!!! :D

Tanaka Apologizes For Injury

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/sto...anaka-apologizes-new-york-yankees-fans-injury

"I give everything I have every time I take the ball. With that, I also know that there will always be a risk of injury when playing this game that I love. Right now I feel that the most important thing for me is to keep my head up, remain focused on the task at hand and devote all my energy into healing the injury in order to come back strong," he said.

"I want to apologize to the Yankees organization, my teammates and our fans for not being able to help during this time. I accept this injury as a challenge, but I promise to do everything I can to overcome this setback and return to the mound as soon as possible."

Classy. But that won't prevent his physical issues or put him back on the field.

Is Mr. Tanaka headed for a visit with Dr. Frank Jobe for some Tommy John??

What I'm hearing on WEEI is that his best pitch, the split finger fastball, puts particular stress on the elbow. It's a pitch Tanaka may rely on too much with a shorter pitching rotation and a heavier ball than in Japan. If he is breaking down just little more than 3 months into his first season, because of this pitch or mostly because of it and the demands of playing in the MLB, his money pitch could also be his worst enemy. As it is a healthy pitcher who takes care of himself, and prides himself on giving his best all of the time, has gotten a worrisome injury 1/2 a season after the Yankees spent $175 million for 7 years.

This could go from recoverable to disaster in a hurry. The silence of the Yankees fans screams PANIC!!! I hear EB is taking stress reduction therapy to the point of straight jackets being kept very close at hand by professionals. Joe.t and Iggy are drinking heavily at their nest.

There once was Harvey Day and then there was Tommy John surgery.

Masahiro Tanaka appears to be heading down the same pitching path.

The Yankees got the news Thursday night, announced by general manager Brian Cashman, that Masahiro Tanaka will be out for at least six weeks with a small tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament and will begin an extensive rehab process.

If that doesn’t work, Tommy John surgery is the next step. Then all bets are off on the Yankees’ $175 million investment. It’s a new Tanaka World.

........................

Since the Mike Napoli home run on June 28, Tanaka has allowed 20 hits and 10 runs over 13 ²/₃ innings.

That is not an ace.

Clearly, Tanaka was hurting because of the small tear, a tear that is less than 10 percent of the ligament, but will he have the same stuff he had before the injury?

No way.

Now there will be the cloud hanging over his head every time he goes to the mound. Now Girardi is going to have to be extra cautious with Tanaka.

Three doctors recommended the rehab protocol — Chris Ahmad (Yankees), David Altchek (Mets) and Neal elAttrache (Dodgers), so that is the way to go. But because of the stress Tanaka has put on his right arm coming over to the major leagues with the bigger baseball and throwing those 477 split-finger fastballs this season, he is no longer a sure thing.

“If we knew today that the best course of action was Tommy John surgery,’’ Cashman said of the doctors’ recommendation, “despite the name and the amount in the investment, we would be told Tommy John surgery.

RED SOX:

The team finally cut A.J. Pierzynski. Though he was meant only as a one-year stop gap to give Christian Vasquez another year to mature Pierzynski has worn out him welcome in several ways. He can't hit...he can't catch with much effectiveness if any...and at least two pitchers have said they don't want him behind the plate. That's all next to his well known poor to bad attitude in the clubhouse causing problems. He's gone and it was late in getting rid of him.

It's early to bring up Vasquez who everyone has said is not quite ready, but already he is at least a great defensive improvement over Pierzynski, gunning down two runners at 2nd and making an athletic game saving tag at home plate in his first game. Many analysts have said he has the potential to be one of the games very best at his position.

Sorry doubters, after 58 games into his first season Brock Holt is holding up well with a .311 AVG on a team that mostly has not been able to hit to support him.

The Red Sox now have 5 rookies in the lineup, that's the most since 1952. In my view it's a smart move. Forget even thinking about trying to make a run and get these guys some playing experience without the pressure of a playoffs goal and just get them to focus on winning...cue cliché..."one game at a time".

Everyone has been expecting Jake Peavy to be traded. He could have pretty decent value with a National League team.

As for John Lester, here's one view:

http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/sto...oji-uehara-jake-peavy-john-lackey-jonny-gomes

An All-Star for the third time in five seasons, Lester has talked to the Red Sox about an extension to remain in Boston, but has not been able to come to a deal. While keeping the ace on a long-term basis is a priority, and trading away a player you want to keep might seem counterintuitive, Boston would do well to stress to Lester that shipping him out for August, September and October would be mutually beneficial. He would get a chance for another championship ring, and the Red Sox could get a significant piece for their future.

NOW, are there any pinstriped koolaid addicts who have something better than cut and paste. Didn't think so. :D

Cheers BOYZ!,

Now now, calm down there.... We still have 70 games to play and The Yanks are 3.5 games out of a playoff spot and we have a guy by the name of Brian "Brain" Cashman running the show in the Bronx my man.

But, if they dont somehow make the dance, you will get your Le Boucan lunch. I pay my debts just like Joe.t does. He taught me well when it comes to not only paying in full but in a very timely manner. Once he was a week late paying a bet he lost to me so he kicked in an extra 10% because he felt bad he did not pay up within his normal 3 days..... a man of honor that Joe is! Great Guy, Great Friend! :thumb:

Joe T. has been barred from this forum for NOT paying a gambling debt and boasting about it here. You are losing your own credibility by describing him as honorable.

EDIT: What part of my past warnings did you not understand? You are referencing, once again, a past event where you welched on a bet and throwing it in another member's face. If you do this one more time, or post about betting on sports in any way, your next post will be after the World Series is over. As it is, you are suspended for 1 week for acting like a child.

Joe T is not barred- he posted as recently as 7:30 p.m. last night in this very thread.

I was apparently not sufficiently precise.

I agree that he is not barred now. He WAS suspended at the time he posted his boast about his stiffing.

I am sure that, in particular, given Joe T.'s abysmal handicapping, others might tempted to bet with him. I doubt that he will ever make good on his debt. I am grateful to other merbites for saving me from poor service, frauds etc. over the years and I therefore post whenever I see a reference to Joe or Igna's betting to warn others.

I pay my debts just like Joe.t does. :

You mean you intend to welsh.

Mod20, please note that the only reason this has come up again is because Iggy is lying his ass off about a proven fact as noted by Anon Vlad at the bottom of post 677.

Joe T is not barred- he posted as recently as 7:30 p.m. last night in this very thread.

To be accurate, Joe.t was barred from saying anything about sports betting with members and forbidden to even talk about betting at all because he shamelessly taunted Anon Vlad many times by bragging about how he cheated Anon and how Anon could never collect, for which he was suspended. Iggy saw these cowardly taunts over and over and still he chooses to lie about it every time. Pure Joe and Iggy.

You are losing your own credibility by describing him as honorable.

What credibility or honor?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? It's just bloody ridiculous how these two can keep lying to the whole board time after time.

With Iggy's record I question whether he'll ever pay off SK since he has no honor on this subject.

Went to the Mets game today... Yes, I'm a Yankees fan still. I haven't gone over to the dark side. But, I took a Mets fan there for his birthday. I just wanted to mention that at the game, close to our section, there were dozens of people wearing Expos shirts/jerseys. I spoke with some briefly & they just wanted to come out and support the NL and, of course, support the Expos, hoping that they can get their old team back. It was good to see them out there!

The SILENCE OF THE SHAMS.

Where are our wonderful Yankees fans, the three who were giving every award to the Yanks all year and the 1 1/2 silent partners? Not one post bragging about the Yanks since July 1.

Cashman will come to the rescue and he will rock:

SOOOOOO, how is that working out for you??? :D

Well, the Boston Red Sox have been showing a little bit of life as of late. In the very short sample switch to starting 5 rookies the Sox have won 3 of 4, and more surprising with a little run scoring potency. Not the least of whom is Brock Holt who in his latest streak of a few games has raised his BA 15 points to .327. With 84 hits in 61 games Holt is hitting at a 223 hits pace for a 162 game season.

Meanwhile Clay Buchholz threw a complete game gem giving up only 3 hits and striking out 12. One things is for certain, the inserting of 5 rookies has given the Red Sox a good shot of youthful energy and determination... a little chemistry that has been missing since last October.

If current trends keep up both the Rays and Red Sox could be watching a lot of pinstripes dropping past them on their way to the bottom of the standings, and if the current posting trends continue along with the teams losing ways the dearth of posts about the Yankees could become a complete disappearance.

WHERE IS THE LOYALTY, FAITH, and most of all the BRAVADO OF YANKEES FANS NOW???

:noidea:

Bawhahahahahahah!!!!, you are absolutely killing me of late Merlito, I haven't laughed this much in a long time, you are on a serious delusional roll of late, you are getting your pants wet over the play of 5 rookies and the pitching performance from a corpse of a pitcher with a losing record and a fabulous 5.42 ERA, the reason that the Red Sux have inserted rookies is because the team stinks to high heaven and management has thrown in the towel, the last time I checked the Red Sux were still in dead last place which is where they will finish in October, keep wetting those pants of yours.

Watching 'Baseball Central' on RSN. Harold Reynolds being interviewed by the excellent Jeff Blair. Same question as i have: "Will John Lester get traded by the Red Sox?" All season long, the Sox have been trying to sign him to an extension. They have yet to be successful. Lester would be a very high commodity on the market & if the Red Sox do decide to trade him, they'll surely get a great return back. They probably could get something decent for Clay Bucholz, but likely not much for Jake Peavy.

Maybe a few years ago but certainly not now, the Sux blew their chance, they should have traded him years ago when even the Boston announcers were calling for the trade but his value is very low now due to the fact that the guy is a walking pretzel stick(accident waiting to happen), he also sucks.

I could see John Lester going but then again why would they trade one of their best players unless he wants out, nobody likes playing for a last place team.
