BOYZZZ!
Classy. But that won't prevent his physical issues or put him back on the field.
Is Mr. Tanaka headed for a visit with Dr. Frank Jobe for some Tommy John??
What I'm hearing on WEEI is that his best pitch, the split finger fastball, puts particular stress on the elbow. It's a pitch Tanaka may rely on too much with a shorter pitching rotation and a heavier ball than in Japan. If he is breaking down just little more than 3 months into his first season, because of this pitch or mostly because of it and the demands of playing in the MLB, his money pitch could also be his worst enemy. As it is a healthy pitcher who takes care of himself, and prides himself on giving his best all of the time, has gotten a worrisome injury 1/2 a season after the Yankees spent $175 million for 7 years.
This could go from recoverable to disaster in a hurry.
The silence of the Yankees fans screams PANIC!!! I hear EB is taking stress reduction therapy to the point of straight jackets being kept very close at hand by professionals. Joe.t and Iggy are drinking heavily at their nest.

There once was Harvey Day and then there was Tommy John surgery.
Masahiro Tanaka appears to be heading down the same pitching path.
The Yankees got the news Thursday night, announced by general manager Brian Cashman, that Masahiro Tanaka will be out for at least six weeks with a small tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament and will begin an extensive rehab process.
If that doesn’t work, Tommy John surgery is the next step. Then all bets are off on the Yankees’ $175 million investment. It’s a new Tanaka World.
........................
Since the Mike Napoli home run on June 28, Tanaka has allowed 20 hits and 10 runs over 13 ²/₃ innings.
That is not an ace.
Clearly, Tanaka was hurting because of the small tear, a tear that is less than 10 percent of the ligament, but will he have the same stuff he had before the injury?
No way.
Now there will be the cloud hanging over his head every time he goes to the mound. Now Girardi is going to have to be extra cautious with Tanaka.
Three doctors recommended the rehab protocol — Chris Ahmad (Yankees), David Altchek (Mets) and Neal elAttrache (Dodgers), so that is the way to go. But because of the stress Tanaka has put on his right arm coming over to the major leagues with the bigger baseball and throwing those 477 split-finger fastballs this season, he is no longer a sure thing.
“If we knew today that the best course of action was Tommy John surgery,’’ Cashman said of the doctors’ recommendation, “despite the name and the amount in the investment, we would be told Tommy John surgery.
RED SOX:
The team finally cut A.J. Pierzynski. Though he was meant only as a one-year stop gap to give Christian Vasquez another year to mature Pierzynski has worn out him welcome in several ways. He can't hit...he can't catch with much effectiveness if any...and at least two pitchers have said they don't want him behind the plate. That's all next to his well known poor to bad attitude in the clubhouse causing problems. He's gone and it was late in getting rid of him.
It's early to bring up Vasquez who everyone has said is not quite ready, but already he is at least a great defensive improvement over Pierzynski, gunning down two runners at 2nd and making an athletic game saving tag at home plate in his first game. Many analysts have said he has the potential to be one of the games very best at his position.
Sorry doubters, after 58 games into his first season Brock Holt is holding up well with a .311 AVG on a team that mostly has not been able to hit to support him.
The Red Sox now have 5 rookies in the lineup, that's the most since 1952. In my view it's a smart move. Forget even thinking about trying to make a run and get these guys some playing experience without the pressure of a playoffs goal and just get them to focus on winning...cue cliché..."one game at a time".
Everyone has been expecting Jake Peavy to be traded. He could have pretty decent value with a National League team.
As for John Lester, here's one view:

An All-Star for the third time in five seasons, Lester has talked to the Red Sox about an extension to remain in Boston, but has not been able to come to a deal. While keeping the ace on a long-term basis is a priority, and trading away a player you want to keep might seem counterintuitive, Boston would do well to stress to Lester that shipping him out for August, September and October would be mutually beneficial. He would get a chance for another championship ring, and the Red Sox could get a significant piece for their future.
NOW, are there any pinstriped koolaid addicts who have something better than cut and paste. Didn't think so.
Cheers BOYZ!,
