Would be nice to have a team in Quebec city.

Don’t know if the return on investment could be good enough.

Draisaitl Signs Extension With Oilers!
This comes as a big shock to some people in Boston who were going to open up the vault for Leo.
Wow! Incredible !

It’s a hell lot of money !

And Edmonton isn’t a very huge market….

Doesn’t matter if it’s a huge market or not when the league has a hard salary cap.

I read this morning that the Oilers are the team that made the most money in the entire NHL last season.

This is a great signing for the Oilers & Canada. Draisaitl actually left money on the table to remain in Edmonton since he more than likely could have got more on the open market next season & the following years. I’m not surprised he re-signed with the Oilers but i am extremely surprised he re-signed for the entire 8 years! He could have signed for a year or so & then re-evaluate the market & sign for more money in Edmonton or elsewhere. Good for them!

Now it’s starting to look like McDavid will likely stay in Edmonton when it’s his turn to negotiate a new contract in two years. I’m sure both players were in regular contact with one another & Draisaitl wouldn’t have re-signed for 8 more years had he not been aware of McDavid’s intentions in the near future.

I would tend to agree with this. There is no way Draisaitl would have committed long term without knowing what McDavid's intentions were. He was not going to let himself be in a situation where he would be back-stabbed. I mean it would be like in Batman and Robin, if Robin had invested money in a brand new suit and cape and a new home near the Batcave, only to have Batman tell him, "I have decided to leave Gotham City to go and fight crime elsewhere. You're now on your own, Robin!"

I was listening to Tony Marinaro’s show on BPM Sports this morning & to my surprise he doesn’t think it’s a good contract for the Oilers. Not as bad as Darnell Nurse’s contract which is a travesty but he believes it’s a contract which may come back to haunt them. He added that playing next to Connor McDavid makes any player look better than they really are. He pointed out that he believes that he’s a great player but committing that much money for that long may become problematic. Tony’s sidekick pointed out that the Oilers didn’t have much choice but to give in to his demands or else he’d be playing elsewhere next season & if so McDavid may decide to leave in two years without a player of Draisaitl’s calibre around in Edmonton. Marinaro agreed but still thought the Oilers overpaid.

The thing is that he fails to understand that Edmonton is a tough market to attract top players to play there which partly explains them panicking when they handed out that contract to Darnell Nurse. Their defenceman Evan Bouchard’s contract will be up after this season & he’ll expect to be rewarded mightily. So if Darnell Nirse is worth over $9 million to the Oilers how the hell is Evan Bouchard worth? Draisaitl may quite possibly be the same player without McDavid & for his contract to be justified it’s almost guaranteed that they’ll have to hand out a blank check to McDavid if they want to keep him in Edmonton. McDavid & his new bride are both from the Toronto area & own a house/cottage/mansion in the Muskoka area about an hour north of Toronto, which is where they held their nuptials this past summer. So if the Leafs don’t end up re-signing Mitch Marner after this season i’d be very nervous if i was an Oilers fan since McDavid has always made it known he grew up a Leafs fan & his boyhood dream was to play for the Maple Leafs one day.

Former Habs captain & scoring star Max Pacioretty will be attending training camp in Toronto on a PTO hoping to sign on with the Leafs. Personally i can’t understand the move. I wish him luck but i doubt he can help the Leafs.

Will he even make the team? Can he agree to a minor league deal and get recalled if he shows his legs still have life after two achilles tendon tears, assuming he does not suffer a 3rd or some other injury?

My guess is that if he can’t make the team he’ll sign elsewhere since other teams were interested in him. Problem is that the Leafs don’t have much room left cap-wise & would likely have to trade a player or put one on waivers in order to sign him. Plus it would likely mean sending Easton Cowan back to his junior team where he starred & already proven himself which in my opinion would only hurt his progress.

Pacioretty is two years older than Tavares & hasn’t played much over the past couple of years. Now that Nick Robertson is signed i don’t really understand keeping Pacioretty even if he plays well enough to make the team. And of he does will he wear his usual number 67? That number has haunted the Leafs for decades since that’s the last year they won the cup.

Johnny Gaudreau Killer Denied Bail!
WTF with the wife testifying against her husband? There is a marital communications privilege blocking that in most states (including CT), but I guess in NJ wife can be compelled to testify against husband in a criminal case.

Allowing such testimony doesn't preserve the sanctity and harmony of the marital relationship, which is the rationale underlying the privilege.
