Rangers 2, Kraken 0. Jonathan Quick is now 4-0, winning all 4 of his starts with 2 shutouts and a glittering .970 save %. This is what you want from your backup goalie.

I think Sens are quite capable of winning against the Oilers, who will be playing a second game in a row. Last night McDavid was showing signs of frustration from the first period and kept this attitude all night. I don’t know what his problem was but it obviously kept him out of focus.

I agree. The Oilers have struggled all season long. Other than usual characters McDavid & Draisaitl there isn’t much. Zack Hyman has struggled badly one season away from his first ever 50-goal season. But that was a fluke. Hyman is more like a 30-goal scorer. Evan Bouchard is having an absolutely terrIble season & probably has been the Oilers worse defenceman all season long. The forwards for the most part have been ordinary. Same with the defence. The goaltending has been inconsistent & Skinner is unreliable. With Evander Kane absent all season team toughness has been non-existent. Corey Perry is done & the Jeff Skinner signing has so far been a big disappointment. I’ve never been a fan of their coaching staff & they miss the two young free sgents they let the Blues steal from them. Not a fan of the current upper management team either. Maybe the Oilers are getting what they deserve. If they miss the playoffs & have a depressing sesson will McDavid want to re-sign there next year or will he prefer moving back home to Toronto & get to enjoy spending more time at his mansion in nearby Muskoka?

Prediction: the Sens will beat the Oilers tonight. The Sens play great at home & the Oilers suck.

It’s hard to believe that the Oilers were in the cup final last year and even pushed the series to the limit, winning 3 games in a row after trailing by 3-0!

The problem is that Leafs don’t have much under the salary cap for another superstar.
Tavares & Marner’s contracts expire at the end of the season. They’ll have $22 million to play with if McDavid wants to play in Toronto. Matthews, McDavid, Nylander. That would be a pretty good trio of superstars in the lineup!

One of those two will probably sign somewhere else. Now I believe that the Leafs run in the playoffs will dictate what direction they’ll go for next year. If they disappoint again, we might see a big reshuffle of the cards. From there, everything will be possible.

I remember at this time of the year they were playing even worse than today & people were saying they’d miss the playoffs & they sent their #1 goalie Jack Campbell to Bakersfield. They fired Jay Woodcroft & replaced him with McDavid’s junior coach whom know one had ever heard about. They signed Corey Perry. They brought in former Oilers legend Paul Coffee as an assistant coach. Grinder Zack Hyman turned into Alex Ovechkin & scored 54 goals last season. His previous highest total was 36 goals a year earlier. Eventually they created the right chemistry & were able to turn things around with Skinner playing great between the pipes & Evan Bouchard playing like Paul Coffee. Everything came together.

This year they started the season tired & depressed from last season’s cup run right up to July. Other teams had 1-2 more months off to rest. During the off season they lost two young players (Holloway & Broberg) to St-Louis as RFA. Big mistake not to re-sign them. They signed Brett Kulak for $4 million. Way too much! Should have kept the money to keep the two kids. They lost Codi Ceci to the Sharks. Not a great player but a reliable veteran. I also liked Vince Desharnais & his size. He’s now with rival Vancouver. Corey Perry is a year older & it shows. Evander Kane waited until the start of the season to have surgery which will keep him out until 2025. Skinner & Pikard have struggled. Let’s face it: they’re not a very well built team. If they miss the playoffs i’m not sure McDavid would want to stay. Both his wife & him are from the Toronto area & already own a mansion on a lake in the Muskokas. Their families & many friends live in the Toronto area. Many more business opportunities for the couple exist in Toronto. So if the Leafs don’t re-sign both Tavares & Marner they’ll have the money to sign him. And even if they keep Marner they’ll have the money for McDavid with the cap expected to rise by up to $8-9 million next season alone!

On verra.
