I think Kevin O'Connell will very likely get a lot of votes for NFL Coach of the Year, and he might win the damn thing.
He could win itnp however there are also other very good coaches who should be in the running among them Mike Tomlin & Sean McDermott. Here are my reasons for each of them:

O’Connell: The Vikings overachieved & overcame the loss of their long-time experienced veteran QB (Kirk Cousins) who left for free agency. They have a great record & Sam Donald looks like a poor man’s Josh Allen. It’s by far his best ever season & Kevin O’Connell is a hige reason for this. He looks like a transformed player who will likely end up being one of the league’s highest paid QB next season. This team hasn’t had much of a running game however the passing offence has been great & the defence as better. This is a team that will ne extremely hard to beat at home. On the road it may be a different story. The negative to O’Connell being selected coach of the year is that the NFC is a weaker conference & therefore their record may seem a bit bloated.

Mike Tomlin: He might just be the best head coach in football! Respected throughout the league & liked by his players he has always had a knack of making his teams competitive even when the talent isn’t there. Russell WILSON has revived his career under him & his defences have always been second to none! This is a very solid, well balanced team which can beat any team with that defence. I think i’m the only person in the entire world who predicted prior to the season that the Steelers would be a team to watch out for. Most people laughed & told me i was daydreaming. Most people didn’t even give them a chance at making the playoffs. However if Russell Wilson could play decently & provide leadership tomthe QB position i thought they had a good chance. Never underestimate Mike Tomlin.

Sean McDermott: This longtime Buffalo Bills headcoach has never got his due however his teams have all improved over the years since his arrival a decade ago. He’s very respected around the league & the players love him. This season many didn’t even think the Bills would even make the playoffs considerIng all the players they lost during the offseason. Losses of players like Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Tre White, Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde & Leonard Floyd appeared like major losses on paper. Then star middle linebacker Matt Milano tore a bicep in the preseason & was expected to be out until December at the earliest. However Josh Allen decided to put the team on his back & has played MVP football all season long. OC Joe Brady has a ridiculous record simce taking over as OC halfway into last season & has the Bills among the top offences in football. DC Bobby Babych has the defence playing sound & solid football & has been able to make fans forget the key defensive players they lost during the offseason. The Bills have been among the top 5 teams all season & many experts have picked them to be among the top 2 teams in the league recently & are strong Superbowl contenders. The Bills clinched their division a month ago & have only lost 3 games. They easily could have won 2 out of these 3 losses which all happened on the road. They’ve had a spectacular season & have been compared to the Bills team of the 90’s which went to the Superbowl 4 times in a row!

My personal pick would be McDermott. I’ve been a die-hard Bills fan since the mid-70’s ever since Joe Ferguson joined the team & attended many Bills games at Orchard Park in the 90’s when they were led by Jim Kelly, Bruce Smith & Thurman Thomas. I’ve never lost hope over the years & was one of the few at the time that applauded them drafting Josh Allen. Many wanted Josh Rosen instead if Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold weren’t available. Although i have at times questioned some of his decisions i have always believed in Sean McDermott & he’s been even better year after year. Although McDermott would get my vote to finally win this award i will be happy any of the other two i named getting the recognition.

The Steelers have been slumping at the wrong time. Now it looks like they’ll only get in via the wild card. Same thing with the Broncos. They may not even get in unless the Chiefs sit Mahomes & some of their starters on defence next week. The Bengals might just squeeze in & that’s a team i wouldn’t want to face in the playoffs!

Depleted Lions best the Niners last night. Half of their defence is out with injuries. Let me tell you something: if the Niners end up re-signing Brock Purdy for more than $30 million they’re making a huge mistake! His two bad interceptions last night late in the game were game killers! He’s too small, doesn’t have a strong arm, not accurate, he’s not quick or fast & has developed a knack of throwing an interception at absolutely the wrong time! On top of this he’s playing under one of the top offensive minds in the game (Kyle Shanahan) and it’s obvious this makes him look better than he is. Purdy is at his best in the first half when most of the plays are pre-scripted & he sucks in the second half when quarterbacks are often expected to improvise as the game goes on. Baker Mayfield makes $33 million with Tampa & he’s been among the top 3 QB’s in the league statswise this season. And he plays for a defensive-minded head coach who can’t hold a candle to Shanahan! If the Niners are willing to spend $40-50 on a QB then they should go after Sam Darnold instead. Or even Daniel Jones. If the Vikings franchise Darnold then the Niners should try to trade for JJ McCarthy. DONT OVERPAY BROCK PURDY! If he insists on $40-50 million then let him walk!

Last game of the season, Vikings-Lions.

The 272nd and final game of the 2024 NFL season will be a huge one. The Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings will face off with not only the NFC North on the line but the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

The winner will get home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs as well as a first-round bye, while the loser will have to hit the road to take on either the Rams or Buccaneers next weekend.

Pumped for this one ;)

Trevor Lawrence to Cowboys?
Heard a rumor today that Jerry Jones’ Cowboys has made a pitch to acquire disappointing QB Trevor Lawrence from the Jags. What i heard is that they offered to send them Jalen Tolbert, Trevon Diggs & 2 first rounders (2025 & 2026) for Lawrence. The Jags could then draft a QB or sign one as a free agent. Dallas would then likely try to trade Dack Prescott.

If i’m the Jags i don’t hesitate to make this trade which is why i doubt Dallas would ne crazy enough to give that much in return for Lawrence who so far in his career has been rather ordinary & not an upgrade over Dack.

Mahomes Left Off Pro Bowl Roster:
This was the right choice as Jackson, Allen and Burrow all had much better seasons.

I agree. However i worry this will light a match under Mahomes. Other QBs who deserved the honor over Mahomes are Jared Goff, Sam Darnold & Baker Mayfield who all had great seasons.

All 3 of those guys were thrown away by their original teams and have found success elsewhere. Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff were both overall #1 picks while Sam Darnold was a #3 overall pick, selected ahead of Josh Allen. It just took some time for them to fully develop which it usually does even with the most talented young QBs.

Although all 6 of the Pro Bowl QBs had great years, I think Lamar Jackson should win MVP. He has had his best year, by far, and won MVP twice already. His combined passing and rushing skills and stats are unsurpassed in NFL history. Watching him on Thanksgiving against the Texans I was blown away by how effortless he does many things. He was timed at 21.5 mph on that TD run on which he ran away from Willie Anderson and who didn't come close to touching him.

However I thought Allen and Burrow had great years as well, as did the 3 NFC guys. It's just they can't do all the things Lamar does, except for Allen. Allen will join Lamar in the HOF one day and I think both will win Super Bowls, as soon as this year.

Indeed. Baker Mayfield was surprisingly picked #1 overall in that draft. I remember Sam Darnold being rated higher than Mayfield & people being shocked when the Browns chose the smaller & weaker armed Mayfield ahead of him. I also remember people being upset that the Bills didn’t chose the long-forgotten Josh Rosen ahead of Josh Allen. I was among them until i saw a tape of Josh Allen & then realized at the high potential this big, fast & stronged armed Ben Rotlisburger-like QB had & realized what the Bills saw in him & why they picked him ahead of Rosen. Weren’t Pat Mahomes & Lamar Jackson also part of that draft?

Speaking of Mayfield. People don’t realize how great of a season he’s had until they take a look at his stats & realize he’s top 3 in many categories. A few years ago when he played for the Rams i told a buddy of mine who’s a big Niners fan that i’d see Mayfield as a perfect fit for that type of offence. He disagreed. He preferred they draft a QB in the Mack Jones draft. Jones was ranked #1 in the QB category & ended up slipping to the middle of the round to New England. The Niners traded up & ended up picking Trey Lance. Justin Fields & Zach Wilson were picked afterwards & ahead of Mack Jones. My buddy told me the other day that i was right about Mayfield & the Niners would have been better off with him (or Darnold) instead of having to overpay Brock Purdy, whom i consider too small & too limited for a team like the Niners with all the weapons they have. Plus he can’t play in bad weather & always sucks the joint in the second half when QBs are usually expected to improvise.

Sometimes it takes time for young promising QBs to develop. It’s not easy for them when they usually join the worst team in football who don’t have many offensive weapons to help him. That’s why you often see less talented QB drafted later by better teams being more successful. I think of Russell Wilson, Josh Allen & Bo Nix among many others when i say this. Even Mack Jones had a decent rookie year with the Patriots. However you often have highly rated college QBs ending up total busts. This probably happens more often than not. A big reason for this is that the teams they join are terrible & they lose their confidence & often can’t recover from the constant failure.

Jackson was in that draft and picked later in the first round behind Mayfield, Darnold, Allen and Rosen. Of those 5 first rounders, all have been successful QBs except Rosen, who quickly flamed out. Mahomes was selected middle of first round in an earlier draft.

In retrospect Jackson was drafted last of the Big 5 because his pocket passing wasn't viewed as developed as the others. He has a big arm and can make any throw and he has steadily improved as a pocket passer, to the point where he is now as good of a passer as any of those guys. The rap on Allen was he had a big arm but wasn't accurate. However after his first couple of years his accuracy improved dramatically. If you look at his college stats at Wyoming, however, you can understand why pro scouts had these concerns. I think they had similar concerns with Jackson's passing. Jackson is already the leading rusher of any QB in NFL history at age 27, but his passing is also at an All Pro level, which is more than you can really say for some of the guys like Michael Vick and Randall Cunningham who were dual threats but never really super prolific passers.

imo there should be a shared MVP this year, two guys playing on unreal levels

Lamar playing on another level this year and can just imagine what his rushing TDs would be without Henry.

Even Saquon has been playing on another planet, how the Giants managed him was beyond laughable, at times I feel I could be a GM based on the decisions some of these bozos make.

It won’t & can’t be a co-mvp because of the way the voting process is set up. There can only be one mvp. I’d say Lamar cancels himself because he’s already won twice. It’ll be between Josh Allen & Shaquan Barkley. Joe Burrow will likely get some votes but his team is likely to miss the playoffs so it won’t be him. Sam Darnold & Jared Goff also had spectacular seasons. My pick is Josh Allen but i won’t be too upset if Barkley gets it because he also deserves it & it’s too bad he won’t get a chance today to break the rushing record against his former team. Personally i’d take a trip to the Superbowl for the Bills anytime over Josh winning the mvp.

I believe Lamar Jackson should win the award based on his stats and the importance to his team, and I do not believe winning it twice already should disqualify him in any way. That being said, I think Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley were also very valuable to their teams and I would not upset me if either one of them won it. Joe Burrow had a phenomenal season, his best one of his career, but unless the Bengals get help and make the playoffs, I do not think he should get it.
