I figured out what the problem was. I had MERB saved and bookmarked as a favorite place. But when I left MERB and tried to click on the old bookmark, I would be logged out and would have to log back in.

So I rebooted, deleted cookies and created a NEW BOOKMARK for MERB in my favorite places. It worked! I was able to go back in to MERB automatically logged in using the new bookmark to the new MERB.

What I want to know is why didn`t Techman and Special K have to go through all this aggravation?

I can`t delete all my cookies because of some other sites I have long since forgotten my passwd to. However, I did delete the https://merb.cc cookies and I still have the problem. Its not a big deal though, I might live with it for now.

Has anyone tried the chat client? mine does not load.

Clean living? :D (My bookmark has simply been https://merb.cc and I had no issues; might have something to do with it, but just guessing.)

EB, maybe it depends on what page you have bookmarked. My favorite brings me directly to the index page, not to https://merb.cc so maybe that makes a difference? Anyways, it seems that there aren`t many problems after all which is good news!

But I still find it interesting that searching Eager Beaver on wikipedia brings you to the page for the movie Striptease! :D :p :D

Oh yeah...I have no problems with the chat client.

Techman,

Both my old bookmark and my new bookmark took me directly to the MERB index page, not to https://merb.cc which would only involve another unnecessary click to get to the index page.

I think what happened is that when the software upgrade occurred, my computer was somehow reading the old bookmark and getting confused, and the result was I was sent to a logged out MERB index page, despite having repeated prior log ins asking the computer to "remember me", which it was not doing. When you tell a computer (which has no feelings and can only obey commands) to remember you, and it doesn`t, something is wrong. But with the new bookmark, I am now being remembered and don`t need to log in every time I click on MERB.

Since that major change, I noticed that I can't add smilies anymore using Mozilla Firefox web browser (it works fine with Opera and Internet Explorer): you click on the smilie and nothing happens. Mind you...this is a minor issue.

More problems! I tried to enter chat and was unable to. Here is the message I got:

"Login failed - you must log in from the review board message board.
m-EagerBeaver
r-http://208.69.241.95/vbulletin/index.php?"

The message is a lie. I was logging in from the message board, just as I did successfully hundreds of times in the past. It's the only time I tried since the changes.

I am again getting involuntarily logged out. Every time I save a new bookmark it works at first, then I am eventually involuntary logged out again.

Fred, this is crap! Please revert to the prior software so I don't have to deal with this bullshit. It's not like I come here all the time but when I do it would be nice to actually be able to use the Board for its intended purpose.

With Firefox, I stay logged in (I just have issues with the smilies and with the fact of not being able to select a username and being able to send a private message to him/her. The drop down menu with menus like "Send Private message to" won't show up. A repair of the browser did not solve the issues...but that's fine. I will uninstall and reinstalle Firefox).
But with Opera I encounter same issues as EB.
Internet Explorer went fine (no issues at all with IE).

MM,

I am actually having these problems using the Internet Explorer browser.

This is not the first time Fred has made changes to the software and it completely messed up my account. There was an updating of the V Bulletin way back in July of 2003 when the same things were happening. At that time, Fred was unable to fix the problem, and he had to delete my account and about 500 or so posts I had made up to that point. He gave me a new EagerBeaver account, deleted the old one, and I did not have any problems again until now.

Fred, do I really have to go through this nonsense again? I am a supporting member and really think I should get better treatment than this.

Hey Special K,

Rollingstone posted to say he was having the same problems........both with getting logged out and not being able to go into chat. We are still waiting to hear what the problem is. Rollingstone deserves better treatment as well and it's silly to make jokes about this, as I would not have posted again if I was the only person having the problem. If I was the only person having the problem I would have deleted the thread. The thread is here to find out what the problem is and how to fix it.

Actually, if you look at the revision of the software at the bottom of every page you will see that it is the same as before. I don't think there was any software change but rather only a server change. So there may just be a couple of configuration bugs to work out. It's only been a day...give them a chance to solve things. It tends to take a little time to sort things out after moving to a new server, it's nothing unusual. A little patience goes a long way.

Cookie issue...

The "cannot stay logged in" problem is a known issue to the vbulletin
community. It can appear after a change in IP address (server
upgrade). It is very hard to diagnose because only a few has
this issue. Yes, it is indeed annoying. "Remember me" does not
solve it.

After reading through EB thread, a possible solution would be to
ask the Admin to upload the Scott`s MyCookies.php script
to the main forum.

Then, EB and other member having this login/cookies issue could
follow the link (ie, https://merb.cc/vbulletin/mycookies.php) so they
can delete all cookies through javascript and php. Version 3.6
of vbulletin has this script already integrated but not 3.5

The thread about "vB Logging Users Out" on vbulletin post #49:
www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91523

Hope this help.

I had a similar problem when I posted in Fred`s thread informing us of the upgrade (https://merb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=31295). However, I haven`t had any problems since Sunday evening when everything for me (chat, posting, no time outs, etc.) started to work without any problems.

OK I managed to get into chat. There is one caveat. Look at the URL displayed after you log in. If it is reading the IP for https://merb.cc instead of https://merb.cc itself, then you will get that exact same error. I simply closed all browser windows, and went to the board again. This time I didn`t get the IP display and the chat worked fine.

Rollingstone,

I tried saving https://merb.cc as my bookmark instead of the index page, and that seemed to work as far as getting in to chat. As far as the automatic log outs or time outs, we will have to wait and see.

I had always saved the index page as my bookmark in the past and never had these problems, at least since the July 2003 upgrade.
