I have actually never seen any death notice/news article list cause of death as "mental illness." Seems very unusual.

As I continue to read Anthony Bourdain's book, "Kitchen Confidential", I just concluded the chapter on his education at the Culinary Institute of America. In that chapter, Bourdain mentions that one disapproving instructor known for berating students at a soufle station would throw theatrical tantrums, which included throwing any misprepared soufle onto the floor, and screaming at the berated student that "I hope you kill yourself from the shame of creating that abomination." Bourdain in the book brags that he took his berating from the soufle instructor, which was obligatory for all students, like a hardened veteran, which he at that point was compared to his fellow students. I found it sadly ironic reading this passage.

Who knows
Apparently he hung himself, which is a terrible way to go. Fentanyl is easily available on the streets and there is no pain involved.
Still I’d Prefer to see my psychologist she has a way with words lol

Hanging isn’t necessarily a horrible method of suicide. If it’s slow asphyxiation yes, but if it’s neck snapped by weight of body it’s over with instantly.

I would also like to note that both David Carradine and Michael Hutchence hanged themselves during autoerotic asphyxia. Presumably their deaths, though accidental, were sexually arousing experiences for them on the way out of this life. Carradine was originally a suspected suicide but autopsy showed he was choking the old chicken before he died. It’s not clear if he was able to come or if semen was found on the floor. Pretty sure the Thai medical examiner found him naked and examined his penis and came to that conclusion.

Beautiful quote by bourdain
Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.

Here's more evidence that the hideously tattooed, occult-obsessed, self-absorbed Asia Argento is an 11 on the crazy axis of the Universal Hot Crazy Matrix. Harvey Weinstein should be delighted that she is one of his main accusers (I bet the defense attorneys can't wait to cross-examine her). Anthony Bourdain's friends and family should regret that he ever met her.

  • Asia Argento took to Instagram on Saturday evening wearing denim shorts that spell out 'Epic Loser' with the blunt caption 'F*** you all'
  • The following morning she posted nude mirror selfies saying: 'I love you'
  • The Italian singer has shared her grief on social media following the death of her boyfriend celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain
  • The food critic died on June 8 after committing suicide in his hotel room in France, where he was filming an episode of his hit show Parts Unknown
  • She was praised last week for performing on stage in France following his death

Asia Argento continues to mourn the death of her boyfriend celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain by sharing a mix of quotes and photos to Instagram.
The Italian singer and actress took to Instagram Saturday evening to share an image of her shorts that spell out 'Epic Loser' on the back pockets with the caption: 'F*** you all'. She followed up Sunday morning with a naked photo showing off her slender figure writing: 'I love you'...

Asia Argento sounds like a person that is in a world of her own and believes she is at the center of her universe. There are many people like that, I have met them, and one does not even have to be famous to be sucked into that nether world.

CaptRenault, I think what's scary about Asia Argento is her crazy factor far, far exceeds her beauty. She's like Victoria's Secret Angel crazy with a bit of rough and tumble attractiveness. When you go with a girl with her looks, you would think she would be an attractive woman who was somewhat down to earth and someone who was fun to drink with and have sex. Perhaps she's fun in a bar, fun in bed, but she seems like someone who's ego is spinning off the planet.

Patron, did you know that Bourdain was recently attempting to launch a NYC authentic food hawker market? I think the final blow to developing the idea came towards the end of 2017. Conceptually, it seemed like a good idea. In reality, I got the impression that his desire for authenticity didn't jive with the high costs of NYC and the impracticality of bringing in successful street hawkers from various countries to start-up operations thousands of miles away from home. He wanted to keep the price-point accessible to many. In there local cultures, these street hawkers can access amazing ingredients and set-up shop relatively inexpensively. I couldn't see how this mixture of NY local and tourist food scene in the middle of Manhattan didn't devolve into a street food version of Eataly. I'm sure Bourdain's partners wanted to sell $25 t-shirts throughout the proposed facility.

Take a guess as to which dead persons image creates the largest amount of royalty funds.

Marilyn, Elvis, Sinatra, Jesus, Lennon, Kennedy, Che, Einstein?

Okay Cloudsurf, I'll answer your question. With Patron's T&A prompting, I will guess (no googling) Marilyn's image creates the most amount of royalties.

Firstly I`ll narrow down the field.
Long dead religious leaders like Jesus and Buddha probably don`t have a royalty system set up for them. Especially Mohamed if you want to keep your head attached to your body. Elvis is still alive so he doesn`t count.....lol

The winner is Einstein with MM coming in second.

Bourdain displays a very wicked sense of humor in “Kitchen Confidential.” One chapter of the book is completely devoted to answer the very good question of why, when 80% of new restaurant ventures lose money, entrepreneurs nevertheless pour money into the investment and even continue to do so after it’s become obvious that their restaurant is failing financially. Bourdain’s theory is that ego blinds common sense. He talks about something called Bogart Complex in which the new restaurateur fantasizes that he is like Bogart running Rick’s Cafe in Casablanca, suavely sauntering around the dining room and schmoozing guests while accepting the adulation and attentions of hot waitresses and hostesses. Bourdain says a big part of the ego/Bogart Complex is that the new restaurateur sees this as a business opportunity which will result in tremendous free pussy opportunities and it usually does, in most cases. This chapter of the book, although intelligently put forth as a genuine valid theory, is hysterically, wickedly funny in the way it is written.

Kitchen Confidential was the perfect book at the perfect time. People were starting to romanticize celebrity chefs in the 90s. Bourdain came along and pulled back the curtain in a humorous and interesting manner. Kitchen Confidential might not have been as successful ten years earlier.

Medium Raw was kind of derivative essays that repeated Bourdain's often told themes. Moderately interesting, but not groundbreaking. As far as his venturing into writing murder mysteries, I wondered if his writing skills carried over into this genre.

What truly made Bourdain a star was his long-running gig as travel/food presenter. Regardless of the network, his travel shows were very different from everyone before and after. A certain empathy for the local people and their culture combined with his signature humor and insightful storytelling. He also had a great eye and hired amazing cinematographers and editors, He also wasn't traveling like most tourists and it showed. He dug deeper. Deep as any short-term visitor can go in a hour long format.

I think so many food people think "Hey, I know food. I know travel. I can do that." The problem is they don't have a voice. Many of these shows become repetitive, uninteresting and at worse cloying.

I don't understand her whole #metoo claim after she dated Weinstein and had consensual sex with him. I am not a psychologist, but this I fear has always been a bad precedence. The idea that a woman can have a relationship with a man and then rethink the entire beginning after a period of time. Very, very bad precedence.

Call me old-fashioned.

This guy offs himself even though he is perfectly healthy, leaving behind a very young daughter, an elderly mother, and an actual, legal wife who he did not divorce even though he was having a very public relationship with Asia, and he is up on a high horse declaring himself a feminist and not only criticizing Weinstein and Clinton, but mocking Weinstein for where he lives and stating his apparent wish that Weinstein will die.

First of all if you are separated from a legal wife there is no requirement that you divorce her if there is a mutually acceptable separation agreement or arrangement that benefits the parties and the child, which there apparently was in this case. Divorce only serves to enrich the divorce attorneys and the pseudo-experts they hire, in most cases beyond belief. Intelligent people, many actually, work out separation agreements and stay married for various reasons, and usually save large amounts of money and trauma on the children by doing so. Even uncontested divorces cost time and money and are utterly pointless if you have no plans to remarry.

Regarding Bourdain's comments on Weinstein, while somewhat over-the-top, his book Kitchen Confidential is filled with such over the top statements about a number of people who are named and some who are not named (including Emeril Lagasse and Vegetarians), and I interpreted his comments more as moral support for his girlfriend. I think Brad Pitt made similar statements, so did a few other guys who are in relationships with Weinstein accusers. It's just so much public testosterone transfer and testicle swinging, done as a show of macho support for their girl. I would think most people see it as such.

I am very surprised that the posters here chose to discuss Bourdain’s comments about Weinstein only from the standpoint of his girlfriend and not from the standpoint of his own experience with sexual harassment and molestation which is discussed matter of factly and at length in “Kitchen Confidential”. Bourdain does not at all make himself out to be a victim but rather articulates the experience as part and parcel of working in the restaurant business.

The book has a chapter in which Bourdain discusses his first job in New York City out of the CIA, at the legendary Rainbow Room on the 64th floor of the Rockefeller Center. Bourdain states that the shop steward at the time was an older Puerto Rican man identified by name by Bourdain. This man, a fellow senior Chef at the Rainbow Room, daily subjected Bourdain to Spacey-like homosexual groping, consisting of an aggressive fondling of Bourdain’s ass and ass crack, as he walked by, every day. Bourdain at first disgustingly tolerated it but states that the gropes became progressively more aggressive and invasive as he tried to get in not only a squeeze on Bourdain’s ass cheeks but finger penetration into the ass crack. Bourdain said when the guy came close to inserting fingers into ass crack and hole he had had enough. The next day Bourdain waited for him to pass by and when the hand shot out, Bourdain stabbed the man with a meat fork, drawing blood and requiring medical treatment and bandaging of the hand.

Because it was the 1970s and everyone knew what was going on, Bourdain was not only not fired, but was revered by his coworkers for standing up to the harasser. He and the harasser both kept their jobs. Bourdain was later elected shop steward over his harasser, although quickly resigned when he realized management favored the harasser in that position.

This is very likely the most intelligent post you've ever written in your 15 years on this board. I wholeheartedly agree with what you wrote and I have family members and friends who've proven your point several times over.
