Does anyone know of any decent destinations that offer both good mongering as well as snow (downhill) skiing?

What about Zurich? Zurich has escorts and you can ski the Alps and you could tour the FKKs? You can water ski in Thailand, the Philippines, and in Brazil?

Thanks for all the comments so far guys. I was hoping to go to Dusselldorf in Germany where there are reasonably priced FKKs but apparently it's too far from the good ski areas. I could also consider going down to Chile to ski during our summer here with a stopover to Colombia.

Exotic. You can fly just about anywhere within continental Europe for no more than 100 Euro. Get to Europe. Hit an FKK and fly or train to a ski area. Ski two days and then hit another FKK or go to Spain.

There has to be some pretty good skiing in Montreal or Toronto? There certainly are some pretty good escorts?

Montreal and Toronto are decent towns for skiing and mongering but I was looking for anything possibly better out of the country. I already have great scuba diving plus mongering destinations like Dominican, Thailand, St Maarten, etc., so I'm looking for equivalents for skiing trips.

Toronto has zero ski hill worth the trip, forget about that.

Montreal has Tremblant, which is ok. Still 1h30 away. And it can be polar bear cold. I know I am there often.

In my opinion to combine skiing and hobying is wrong. You may very well end up with the worst of both. Girls are in big cities. Good skiing always hours away from big cities. Focus on one of the 2 or split up your trip. Vienna will be better then Innsbruck for the girls believe me.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers,

Yes it's quite acceptable to go to the mountains to ski and then to the big city to monger if they are all in the same trip. Thanks for the thought.

I don't mean to go off-topic but has anyone here skied Owl's Head? I drive by it every so often and it looks a lot less formidable than the ski areas in Vermont that I know ... but the topography is so odd--basically a big hill surrounded by lowlands--that I can't get a read on the place. Is it a ski area for locals or a destination in itself?

Owl's Head is a local place not a destination. Can be a fun montain but as you said the terrain is odd. Sutton much better if you ask me. Sutton has a soul as a mountain.

I am a skier. Skied a lot out west and in Europe. The only true ski destination in Quebec is Le Massif. Other then that Lake Placid is my favorite. I live not too far from Tremblant. Mountain sucks but nightlife beats all other ski destination out east by far.

Thanks! That's more or less what I expected. I've never skied Lake Placid but have done almost all the serious mountains in Vermont and a few in New Hampshire and Maine. I've never skied the West--do they have skiing out there?

Sorry--I was goofing around. I live in ski country here in the East and get into endless comical rivalries with my Colorado and Utah friends about skiing. I have a good friend who skies Colorado a few dozen days each winter and he's coming east in February. Our joke is that after 35 years of skiing the big pow in the West, he's finally ready to take on the challenge of the East.

I skied at Owl's Head for a day last winter. For the price, it was okay for a day. Old chalet and lifts but the view of the lake is nice. Best to combine it with ski days at Jay Peak, Sutton and/or Orford

From what i've heard, Whistler, BC, is good. Excellent skiing, and several agencies. Plus, I suspect, a bunch of indies.

I love your question ExoticSpirit, because I would also like to know good options for this type of vacation.

From thinking about it and reading the responses, I think such a location where good slopes are within an hour from the mongering spots is too lofty an expectation. If you consider places where the slopes are within 2-3 hours then a few options open up. Skiing Whistler/Blackcomb and hobbying Vancouver is certainly an option. But personally I would probably prefer Zurich. Something like a 5 day trip, with 2 or 3 days going to different ski resorts, and sampling different FKKs or other similar places each night. Getting around could be a challenge. It would be a more expensive trip for sure, but potentially a lot of fun. I just might look into this.

My understanding is that you can both ski and hobby in Whistler. AFAIK, there is no need to go back and forth to Vancouver for the hobbying part.

Look behind you.
Just go to Banff and ski what is in the area, probably the best skiing in North America. But....... if you are 40 + and expect to pick up a 20 something good luck. When I was younger we would ski all day and hit the pubs in Banff and the success rate was higher than average.
