I do agree with you I do not collect ornated watch but complication watch
The movement for me is the main attraction.
New money have a tendency to be attracted by the bling bling
a diamond covered watch has to offer it made techromarine a very "in" watch for a while because Hollywood stars where buying .
A fully diamond dial Basel and front casing for 20k when a Rolex was 200 K for same description
of course diamonds where from SI quality down a cheaper color even below Top wesselton branding while Rolex are VVS 2 and up with D color

But it was a good show

Blancpain-Tourbillon-Carrousel-15 The Blancpain Tourbillon Carrousel presented at Baselworld 2013 showcases the difference between the well-known (among watch people) tourbillon and its lesser-known cousin, the carrousel. Each uses very similar methods for attempting to compensate for gravity in a balance wheel. Just a smidgen of background. Blancpain used to produce tourbillon complications like the best of them. Then a few years ago they seemed to decide that the tourbillon was too common (pshh, tourbillon... I know! Like everyone has one). So they adopted the carrousel as "their" preferred rotating regulation system. It was an interesting idea, but the funny part was seeing them attempt to explain in words exactly how a tourbillon and carrousel are different. So for those struggling to distinguish between the two (and there are many who will struggle), this watch will finally allow you to compare a tourbillon and carrousel side by side. Thanks Blancpain!
This is important for a number of reasons. Some have tried to deride the carrousel, considering it an inferior tourbillon or a second rate complication altogether. Making appreciation of the carrousel more difficult, is the fact what while helpful videos by Blancpain try to make the distinction with the tourbillon clear, it remains relatively too technical for most people to truly understand.

I for one, was one of those people who struggled to tell the difference at first, and it didn't help that Blancpain is the only company that actively delineates the difference between the two, leaving it as the only brand that uses the carrousel in such an assertive way.

To put it as simply as possible, the tourbillon runs via a single gear train all the way to the escape wheel which uses a fixed fourth wheel (normally running seconds) upon which it makes its rotation, spinning the cage as it goes along. The carrousel on the other hand, runs two gear trains, the first from the mainspring to the escape wheel like a normal watch, the second running through the third wheel with additional gears to turn the cage sitting on a platform that is geared to rotate.

If all this sounds confusing to you, it doesn't matter, just know that the carrousel has a plain technical difference, even though the purpose is essentially the same as a tourbillon - to average out gravity related losses in timekeeping. Just let us know if you want a full technical article explaining the difference, and I will see what I can do. Still, have a look at this video if you are technically inclined, and perhaps you will be able to perceive the difference yourself. Of course on the watch, Blancpain makes it easy by labeling which complication is which.

As the brand that wants to be known as the one with the carrousel, this watch makes sense for Blancpain. Part of the enjoyment of high end watch-making is the understanding and appreciation of the little details, and it was in my trying to understand the difference between the tourbillon and the carrousel that really made me get a better than vague sense of how they work.

Corum-Bubble-Watch-2015-1 It is really about time Corum returned the popular Bubble watch - a timepiece collection that originally came out in the year 2000 and served a major modern role in the brand's history. Eventually, the Corum Bubble watch collection was discontinued, probably because Corum started to go a bit nuts with some silly limited edition models - that, looking back today, are pretty darn cool. You may recall back in 2008, when aBlogtoWatch featured a collection of limited edition Corum Bubble watches that were extremely fitting for Halloween. For Baselworld 2015, the Corum Bubble is back, and I finally have reason to pay attention to the brand again.
I recall a few years ago meeting with Corum at Baselworld and inquiring about the Bubble and whether we might see one again. Someone sneered at me remarking that "we don't think that is right for the brand anymore. We've moved past that." "Ok..." is all I could respond with, and we moved on to seeing more new variations of the Admirals Cup and Golden Bridge collection. I've always liked Corum, but over the last few years, the fun side of the brand seemed to be diminishing and being replaced with a lot of ill-conceived high-end watches that did nothing to serve the image of the brand. I believe that the last time I wrote about Corum was back in January of 2014 when I had a less than optimistic view of the Corum Chronograph Tourbillon 47 Seafender. Later, the brand decided to stick double tourbillons into an Admiral's Cup watch, and with their new ownership by China Haidian Holdings, I more or less assumed the brand's appeal for watch enthusiasts was (at least temporarily) over. So you can imagine my delighted surprise to hear that the Corum Bubble is back.




Not only back, but back with decent prices. In fact, aside from some minor changes and a case size that has been increased to 47mm wide from 45mm wide, the 2015 Corum Bubble is very similar to the way it was when Corum decided to discontinue it. Also, even though the case is larger (and sounds really big) the Corum Bubble wears smaller than it is with snub lugs and a case that wraps around your wrist nicely. With that said, I am pretty sure you can imagine that with a name like the "Bubble," this watch is thick. The sapphire crystal alone is 8mm thick and the entire Corum Bubble watch is 18.8mm thick - but in a cool way.


Corum got the original idea for the Corum Bubble from a prototype dive watch meant for extreme depths. It may very well have been a Rolex. The thick crystal acted to distort the dial, and Corum just sort of played with that and created "bubble-style" hands and hour markers that look interesting with a bit of distortion. The rounded edges make that possible, but also give the timepiece a fun, almost cartoonish look that has appeal to many people. The dial and case shape together have made the Corum Bubble one of the most distinctive "fun" high-end watches around, and I am really glad to see that Corum realized discontinuing it was a mistake. It is entirely possible that the Corum Bubble watch collection needed a break, and I am happy to see it return for its 15-year anniversary.


For the relaunch of the Corum Bubble, there are three models, two of which are limited edition. Corum is clearly taking it slow with the Corum Bubble, but these are nice models. All of the 2015 Corum Bubble watches use the same movements that Corum used in its previous three-hand Corum Bubble watches, which is their Caliber CO 0082 (a base Swiss ETA 2892 automatic). The CO 0082 has been skeletonized for the non-limited edition model which is the return of the Corum Bubble Skeleton. Extremely similar to the older Corum Bubble Skeleton watches, the new Skeleton has slightly different skeletonized bridge designs.




The two limited edition 2015 Corum Bubble watches are the Corum Bubble ALL Black in a black PVD-coated steel case as well as the Corum Bubble Vintage, which has a bronze-colored PVD-coated steel case. Each of the two limited edition models will have a total of 350 pieces. More good news is in regard to pricing - which is rather welcoming for the limited edition models (even compared to the prices of original Corum Bubble watches available for sale) at a reasonable $3,425 for the Corum Bubble All Black and Corum Bubble Vintage, and a lofty $8,300 for the non-limited Corum Bubble Skeleton.

This leaves space for a large free-sprung balance. The movement diameter is 37mm(16.41 lignes), height 9.55mm and comprises 570 components and 65 jewels.

Rolex Watches Featured in James Bond Films

The much loved James Bond film series has historically introduced a whole host of amazingly innovative products to the world. Where the Rolex Company is concerned, its watches have been featured in a total of nine 007 movies including Dr. No, From Russian with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, and License to Kill.



Within the eight Bond Movies that featured Rolex watches, various characters had the pleasure of wearing a beautiful Rolex. Beginning with Dr. No in 1962, James Bond can be spotted wearing a Rolex non-perpetual with a cold-colored case, light-colored dial, and dark colored strap, it became known as the Sylvia Trench Rolex. In the same movie, he also sported the Rolex Submariner 6538, which became Bond’s signature watch.

In the 1963 hit From Russian with Love, Bond wears what has been coined the “Russian Embassy Rolex”, or a Rolex Submariner with a textured strap. One can’t forget how beautiful the pre-owned Rolex Submariner appeared with his perfectly tailored clothing. Within the same movie, Bond also sported a watch very similar to the Sylvia Trench Rolex.

When Goldfinger took the world by storm in 1964, Bond once again could be seen wearing his Rolex Submariner 6538, which was provided the name “Cigarette Lighter Rolex.” There was one change made to the watch that included the use of an undersized RAF strap. In the 1965 Bond film Thunderball, Bond wore his Rolex Submariner with undersized RAF strap as he attempted to save the world yet once again.

In You Only Live Twice, the Sylvia Trench Rolex stole reappeared. This reveals Bond’s commitment to classic elegance, durability, and precision. Two years later in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service Bond reverted back to the Rolex Submariner, but this time introduced the stainless steel bracelet. Additionally, the movie saw him wear the Rolex 6239 with stainless steel bracelet.

By 1973, the world expected to see Bond’s Rolex watch no matter where he went. Thus, when he wore the Rolex Submariner 5513 with a stainless steel bracelet in Live and Let Die, it was no surprise. The watch inspired many men to find a very similar timepiece for themselves.

Bond’s love affair with Rolex was at its end in The Man with the Golden Gun of 1974. Once again he wore the Rolex Submariner with stainless steel bracelet. When 1976 was born, Bond’s Rolex love affair was replaced with a new love for SEIKO. Since then, Rolex hasn’t been a part of a single Bond movie.

Rolex collectors from around the world are constantly seeking out pre-owned Rolex watches from the James Bond era. Finding them can be quite tricky, but it is possible. No matter how old we James Bond fans are we still crave to be like Bond as we adventure our way through life.
