How often are sex workers and their clients the subjects of respectful and unbiased research? How often do people who pay for sexual services and sex workers willing to participate in research? Research that is often done without compensation and with small groups of people.

Good questions. My goal is simply to perform a literature search to answer the question posed above. We will see what populations are being studied, sample size, etc. I have no idea how often the martial status of a given population of clients was studied.

There is no "census" of the "whole population of Johns". We will gather different studies of different populations, and then we see if there is a pattern in the marital status across those studies.
I suspect that most clients of sex workers do not want to participate in those studies and possibly neither would you... Therefore I don't think anything you will find is representative of reality. However, hopefully, you will do some research on the work done by people who have been or still are sex workers themselves.. no matter what the topic related to the industry you're looking into.
You approach the question from a critical theory/post-modernist stance, while I approach it from the point of view of scientist, trained in the scientific method, and with some basic knowledge in the social sciences. If I find any relevant studies, I will provide a summary of the methods and of the population being studied so that everyone can make their own opinion.
I have knowledge in the social sciences as well. Actual knowledge I acquired in university.
There's a reason why critical theory exists. It's because a lot of studies don't yield the results they are supposed to, or they only apply to a certain part of the population.
