A sex worker run organization founded in the mid 1990 that provide services and support (health, first step legal, political representation, etc.) to sex workers. Their health services are funded part by the Montreal health agency (up to now at least because the agency will not exist anymore soon).

they don't go after clients. if you are caught there when they bust, you're fine but other than that, nothing to worry really

The idea of these busts it to bust down on human trafficking and under age prostitution. According to the report Asian women were being smuggling illegally and being forced to prostitution. If this is the case then good for the bust. Unfortunately human smuggling is a reality and many women are coerced in a prostitution which is also a reality.

How about the clients of those agent? Will they have any legal problem?

This needs to be nuanced. If you are caught in an in-call during a bust, you will most likely be charged. If they find your name on a list you will most likely not be charged.

The reports said that a couple of clients were found on site, but they don't say anything about charging them. I assume they are not being charged, at least for now. They can take their time to decide to lay charge or not. In such a big case I imagine the authorities could find it more useful to use these clients as witnesses instead of charging them. Maybe they will be sent to some John School program.

Remember that it's not a crime anymore to simply be found in a bawdy house. They have to prove that you were actually purchasing sex. This might not be as easy to get a conviction especially if it was in a place advertising as a massage parlour with a proper license. It may not be worth the time compared to all the other charges in this case.

That's true, I forgot it said that. But I don't know what to make of it. It's not a crime to be found in a brothel anymore. In fact, prostitution was removed from the definition of ''bawdy house'' in the criminal code.

Edit: After verification, it seems the Bawdy house provision (210) is still on the book, but with prostitution removed from the definition of Bawdy house. It is now simply any place used for acts of indecency. I'm not sure how this is defined. It seems that even though brothels are not bawdy house anymore they can still use it in the same way as before.

From this Legislative Summary of C-36
http://www.parl.gc.ca/About/Parliament/LegislativeSummaries/bills_ls.asp?Language=E&ls=c36&Parl=41&Ses=2&source=library_prb
being found in and owning a common bawdy-house) will therefore remain illegal, but only if the acts committed therein are considered indecent. According to the Supreme Court of Canada, an “indecent act” is one that presents a significant risk of harm to individuals or society in general in a way that is formally recognized by society as being incompatible with the proper functioning of society.

Since prostitution is not an indecent act in and of itself, it would therefore be possible under new section 210 to legally keep a house of prostitution.(...)

So I assume in the present case it is considered a bawdy house because there was accusations of human trafficking and not just prostitution. It still looks like a loophole whereby they could arrest sex workers for being in a bawdy houses (there is no immunity under provision 210 for sex workers themselves).

I doubt they would make lay charges for being in a bawdy house. The jurisprudence on indecency in Québec is mostly, if not totally, on strip clubs. I'm not sure the prosecutors would like to fight a court battle on that ground because this jurisprudence is far from being a closed case. However, as you suggest, there are ground for buying or attempt buying sexual services as by the new law.

They might not pursue it in that case, still provision 210 gives police the possibility of arresting anyone in an incall, even sex workers.

Not sure if ppl are aware but some big busts went down this week in the asian in-call scene .. MtlTopEscorts was the first to go, along with MAE. Then Tony from (Darllie/Tony) got picked up and some
other operator hosting on Notre-Dame, forget the name. Oddly enough, only MAE88 was left unscathed (for now .. ?)

A buddy of mine who works in anti-gang unit had told me in january something big was coming down in that scene. Don't be the one caught with your pants down in the coming while. There's more to come.

That would actually scare me to contact him /them... I know for a FACT that Tony was picked up last week and released. Thus, at the very least, he's on someone's radar. He used to send me emails and respond to texts I sent from a burner, but has not since last week. If there are "new" ads from "him", I'd be worried as to whether or not it really WAS HIM. shrugs. Better safe than sorry is my motto. I don't use Back page, would you mind linking me or pm me the ad in question?

Also, if any Tony 'regular' has been since last week, could you chime in? Many thanks.
