Tips

The following tips should make your SC/bar experiences safer and more enjoyable.

1.) Before entering a club look around. See a car parked in front with the motor running and a driver at the ready, walk away and come back after they leave. Also true when entering /around banks or other financial institutions.

2.) Do not sit near or on the main aisle to the entrance/exit.

3.) Move away from obvious gang types or finish your drink and leave.

4.) Avoid eye contact, especially with patrons that look out of place.

5.) Do not flash money - learn how to pull bills from a pocket as opposed to taking out your wallet.

6.) Sit where you can see the entrance/exit without having to turn.

Could be hard to detect or apply, specially for banks and such but still, a single guy in a running car, if that guy look worried or "weird", that's a big red light.

2.) Do not sit near or on the main aisle to the entrance/exit.
Yup! That's where any "problem" will have to go trough on it's way out, whatever it's by it's own will or with some "assistance" and usually, it won't be in a gentle way. Also apply to parking lot. I saw a fight started inside once and it finished outside. All cars within a 20 feet radius from the door got damaged.

3.) Move away from obvious gang types or finish your drink and leave.
That saved my ass once. Went to see the doorman and told him "there's trouble brewing over there" and by the time he asked me "where?", it was full blown fight.

4.) Avoid eye contact, especially with patrons that look out of place.
Rule of the Animal Kingdom: direct eye contact is seen by some unintelligent life forms as a threat, no matter if the eye contact is by an 80 year old lady!

5.) Do not flash money - learn how to pull bills from a pocket as opposed to taking out your wallet.
Flashing money anywhere, specifically when possibly surrounded by addicts who need some for their next fix is just a plain invitation for trouble but yet, some peoples still either don't realise or see this as a demonstartion of how good they are.

6.) Sit where you can see the entrance/exit without having to turn.
Very good. That way we can leave if some peoples who don't emit good vibes walk-in, before our intuition gets confirmed. If it's unpractical to do so, I usually try to sit as far back from the door as possible and I ensure I know where are the emergency exit. Also, most clubs have mirrors all over the place. Use them to check your surrounding without risking eye contacts.

Watching the Door

Adding to metoo4's detailed explanation about watching the door etc.

If you sit watching the door and trouble starts at the door the natural reaction is to duck or get out of harms way. If you are sitting with your back to the door the natural reaction when trouble starts at the door is to turn around to see what is happening. This delays ducking or getting out of harms way AND may be interpreted by some as a sign you want to get involved. Neither is very good for you.

PS metoo4 is correct about mirrors but they are usually set-up so that club security has an advantage. Use them for your safety don't think you can use them get some imagined edge.

Want to bet that the culprits are black?

Maybe not, don't the biker gangs in Quebec do this kind of thing occasionally ? Particularly at strip clubs ?

Don't know the details yet but my guess here is we're talking about two rival street gangs, not bikers: C.D.P., Bo Gars, Bélanger (are there any left?), Bad Boys, Crips, Bloods - two of these.

Guess I'm out of touch. Haven't been to a strip club in 15 years. I thought bikers owned most of them.

Not the Amazons or MSC both owned by a non biker. Wanda's, Chez Paree and Cleo's are not to the best of my knowledge Castel Tina and various bars in the complex were not owned by a biker. Some are actually owned by former cops or family members of same.

BTW if the SC is not listed above this does not mean it is owned by bikers

Also aware that bikers have many friends.

I think Johnny at Cleo's is a Biker....

He has 2 tattoos... one on his right ass cheek that says: MOM... must have run out of money before he could add: Boucher

and the 2nd that wraps around his chest and back:

Born To Be Mild.... must have had a dyslexic artist do this one as he apparently inverted a W....

And I there you to get a chick without eye contact! peace.

Eye contact is more complex then you realize. Using your analogy about animals. Animals do not have a concept of witness either. If you make eye contact at the wrong time you may be viewed as a potentially threatening witness. Not a good scenario.

Cleo's is not biker or mafia owned. Johnny got it from his father in law.

La source du sexe is owned by an old greek couple

Isnt MSC owned by Tangerine Dream?

Wouldnt be surprised if the owner of Amazons is part of the mafia

He owns Sky bar, parking lots and many many buildings all around the city

Interesting. Peter Sergakis is Greek. Check the name of the investment company right beside MSC. Also owns the Amazon's last I heard.

4.) Avoid eye contact

Good advice, which I often forget/ignore.

Those who find eye contact a provocation for attack, often are not, I have discovered, aficionados of clever wit and repartee.

When I lock eyes with some over-refreshed, pugnacious, muscular, malevolent, malcontent and he demands, in something less then honeyed tones:

"What the fuck are you looking at four eyes?"

I try to win him over with a witty response, that would allow him to demonstrate some modest self-deprecation after which we would then, figuratively at least, join hands and belt out a few verses of "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing".

Hence my reply, with a smattering of smugness:

"That Sir, is a most interesting, but I fear not easily answered, question!"

And then as Dave Broadfoot's oft promoted Renfrew would say:

"When I come to..."
