Look behind you.
The laws are funny here about driving, since my daughter has only a learners permit I as an Alberta driver can not teach her how to drive.... Only someone with a Quebec license is allowed to teach.
My daughter flunked the first time due to exam in French ( she was schooled in English and has difficulty in some words plus the test had some really wrong questions ). She showed me some test questions she got wrong and from my experience she was right and the test was wrong, went to the driving school and asked them to explain why their answers were correct and the instructors only reply was that it is what the book says ( guessing he agreed with me ). The class had 17 students, 30 questions and you must have 21 correct ( male or female ) to pass. 1 person passed at 26 correct, 8 passed at 21 correct and 9 failed ( my daughter had 20 ). with these numbers either the instructor sucked or the test was wrong.

Neither has a high performance version, both are designed as a quality value in a family sedan

If you wanted performance, you would step up to their siblings

Acura and Lexus

I am picking up a Honda CRV for my daughter this week, reason one is because it is a Honda and reason two is because it is all wheel drive. My daughter is starting college and need a dependable vehicle plus AWD for the winters.

Hello all

AWD are very efficient winter vehicles ,however not all companies that offers AWD has the same power distribution per wheel ,depending on what it is ,it will affect the performance on dry pavement ,wet or snowy ,in curves and accelerations

Cheers

Dealer integrity and ability to service your vehicle is most important.

An example of total dealer failure: I bought a new Harley from a new dealership. The dealer had only one actual Harley-accredited mechanic, and a few apprentices.
My bike had constant electrical problems. After getting stranded it had to be towed to the dealer ( yeah, I was pissed). They tell me it will be a week at most to be fixed. So I go in maybe ten days later to make sure it will be ready. Nope. It is sitting there ripped apart, tank and fenders off, wires all over the place. Nobody knew how to fix anything electrical so their solution was to rip out and replace the entire wiring harness. I freaked out and had it trucked to another Harley dealer. They fixed it in one day. It was a shorted out starter relay, about a hundred bucks for the part and install. The place I bought it from wanted six hundred for labour alone!

I have heard of similar problems with AMG, they are so packed with electronics they are almost impossible to work on. A neighbour bought a used AMG SL to make into a fancy hot rod. He is a terrific mechanic but he is having a tough time stripping out all the junk. Variable ride height, not a shade tree mechanic thing to work on.

So be careful buying any fancy gadgetry or any new high tech until all the bugs are worked out.

I seem to always be late on these posts. I'm afraid to disagree with Lexus. They are over priced cars with old engines and inferior awd systems. Torque to price ratio is awful. Unlike the Germans who's build quality are Superiour to Lexus and even Acura. I have an awd 6 turbo SUV that kicks ass and it's not Japanese. ;)

I have a car, but I see it as a toy, can't take it seriously. Most people driver their car less than 5 percent of the time. The rest of the time it is parked somewhere(the remaining 95 percent of the time.) Most people try to.show a social status with a car and later struggle to make the payments which can be quite pricey. So, if you can avoid buying a car all together just dodge the bullet. On top of it it loses value.
Name an industry that buys an equipment that costs a lot, devaluates like crazy and is only used 5% of the time...such industry would disapear quickly.

You are correct about the devaluation but omg I will never go back to not owning a car. The independence and convenience I have far surpasses the worry of devaluation. Plus driving a well made car gives me almost the same pleasure as seeing an sp lol

Maintenance is what keeps the repair costs down, you hear or feel something wrong have it looked at. Change the oil when it has to be done. Wash the car to get the salt or grit off. Keep the interior clean and protect the seats. Nothing worse than a driver who just drives the car and puts gas in it.

You can tell someone from Montreal started this thread. If it was a New Englander "all wheel drive" would be a poll choice. We don't require snow tires by law on December 15 but for a New Englander that travels a vehicle that is roadworthy for the winter is a significant criteria.

This is my pet peeve with Honda. They don't make an all wheel drive sedan. I don't understand why when all of their competitors do. Subaru of course is a very popular vehicle in New England for this reason. They offer a true AWD sedan with horizontally firing pistons. This is a solid technology. And should be important if you live in New England. In Montreal you have to have snow tires by law and snow tires override the concern about the AWD. Not so here. So BookerL's thread is not culturally sensitive to the concerns of the New Englander.

I have a Subaru for a daily driver, great car and I recently purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe AWD for my daughter. Safety first. You pay a little extra for the fuel ecomony but the winter driving makes up for it.

I really love performance, but can't afford a decently fast modern car (ie: 50k for a 2017 Camaro SS)So I basically drive an old, reliable Honda Accord and a Suzuki GSX-R. Decent, but I'd rather have a single fast vehicule (car)

With so many more vehicles on the roads, I would recommend putting safety features on top of your wish list. Even vehicles that sell for less than CND 35,000$ to 40,000$ come equipped with "modern" safety systems like rear view camera, lane change assistance and warnings, automatic breaking, radar sensors backing system and crash mitigation systems. Even a turbo V4 2.0 L engine powered vehicles, like an Audi A3 or A4 Quattro, will give you better performance than a V8 car that is 5 or 6 years old. Safety first, otherwise you may not live another day to drive your new car. And always buckle up. Many celebrities have been ejected from their expensive European cars because they failed to wear their seat belts. No one has conquered the law of physics and no one will ever do so on Earth.

You do not need 50k to have a very fast car, look for something light and turbo charge it. My son has a 1989 240sx modified and it would have no trouble beating a Camaro SS, ZL1 1LE probably not. Easy engine swaps for a V8 LS are the Honda S2000, many older porsches, older Lexus 200 or 300 series, Mazda RX7. If you can find a deceny shape Mustang GT and throw a turbo on it you would be amazed at the power.
