can someone explain to me why?

I got a call the other day around noon, from a new client, asking if I would like to meet later that day at 3 PM. Since I only had plans to get some personal errands taken care of that day, I said OK.
I dropped what I was doing, made myself lunch and started to get ready. He was supposed to call back at 2 with the room number.
At 2:30, I called him back at the number he gave me. It was a bogus number; nobody there by that name. So in the end, not only did I not get my own things done but I also did not make any money.
To add insult to injury, a regular called to ask if I was available for an impulsive afternoon quicky and I turned him down since I had already promised my time to this guy.
Can someone explain to me why guys do this?

I'm assuming this is the first time something like this has happened to you from your reaction.

This sort of thing happens all the time and many times it the same guys doing it. Some Sps have actually memorized their voices.

Look at it this way, at least you didn't spend on a taxi, get to the hotel and only then find out then, that it was a joke.

Lastly these idiots get off on reading your reaction here.

Look at it this way, if it only happened once so far, you're batting better than most.

As far as having a number and a name you should have done your homework. You would show up at the guy’s place anyways so why not do a little homework and check that out.
There are john’s who do call agencies and escorts places just to jerk off over the phone with a girl’s voice.
As for regulars, always ask to call them back in a few minutes or to re-confirm as sometimes one would not show up. Cancellations also happen to agencies not just independents.

It used to happen more often when I was with an agency, and no it is not my first time as an indy, I just don't get it.

When I had traditional jobs, sometimes we would play similar type of pranks, the fun was is watching the victim of the prank, but in this case I never heard from him again.
