There have been assorted posts directed at Dr. Edgar Who today, but his profile shows that he has not logged on to MERB since 7:57 p.m. last night, which seems a bit unusual under these circumstances. Perhaps he went to the police after all.

Wow, and I was under the impression that they were the reason Montreal was one of the safest cities in North America. Thanks for clarifying this Doc, there must be another reason!!

You're right. Montreal is one of the safest cities in North America. But so are the large majority of other Canadian cities. I attribute it to Canada's gun control laws. Of course, this is just one man's opinion.

Before anyone starts jumping to conclusions, Dr Edgar Who notified me that he would be taking a break from the board. I am sure that he will update us on what he chose to do upon his return so there is no need for any wild speculations.

Dr Who,
You should talk to LE immediately. My experience with LE says they could care less about your "hobbying" if armed robbery is involved. Cops hate guns - rightfully so. If you are up front with them, they will help you.

I am sure that is a reasonable argument. I really don't know at this point what to do.
Brandy's story is so laughable and demonstrably false she can just go file a police report and then I'd really have her!

Or maybe someone paid him a visit.

Not really. I learned one thing over the years during my trips to Mtl & it was that there's always someone available to do you a favor for a few hard-earned dollars. Okay, more than a few....but you get my point. I mean, why the hell should someone get his/her hands dirty & have to go through a bunch of trouble when someone else is happy to do it for him/her? The extra costs involved are often well worth it.

You're not advocating intimidation or violence here are you Doc? I'm sure you're referring to asking a clergyman to provide advice to poor misguided souls...

As a combat vet (Vietnam), I know what it is like to be shot at, and shot. I have lived in abject fear without escape, and have pledged to never do so again if I have recourse.

"It's not just protection for this year. It's protection over the rest of my life I am talking about."

FUCK THAT - I have been so scared that pee ran down my leg. Do NOT be afraid to live your life in peace and tranquility. Take the action available to you - have courage now - don't live your life in fear !

Lublaw,

I just want to take a second out of this thread and say a heart felt "Thank You" for the service you provided to your country. You sir, are a hero!

All the best,

SK

Although the Vietnamese, of whom Lublaw and his hero freinds killed and starved two million, and displaced another five million or so more, during the US occupation may have a lightly different impression ....

Read the first two pages, then skipped to the end, so if this has been covered, forgive me in advance.

Edgar, if you keep this to yourself, you are not a "nice guy," you are a sucker. And what's worse, you are enabling them to continue this sort of behavior, and possibly worse.

Think about it. If it was in fact them, then they took the time to plan this, and execute it. This is not a casual act, or one of impulse. It is preying on fellow human beings, and it is pathetic.

If you've read books like Blink, etc., you may have heard that there's a lot of evidence that our human "gut instinct" is very often right. If you really, strongly felt you were set up and she was deceiving you, then I suspect, without knowing anything of course, that you have good, if subconscious, reason to.

Go to the police. If it wasn't her and her boyfriend, no harm done, worst they may get is having to answer some questions. If it was, think about this. They preyed on your trust and good nature, and by acting scared/discouraging you from going to the police, they (she) are very likely doing so again.

Don't be suckered again.

I think this is sound advice. I'd also go to the police & file a report. Who knows, maybe the same thing has happened to someone else & the cops just need another report of a similar incident to put 2-and-2 together. By filing a police report, Edgar might also prevent the same thing to happen to other unsuspecting persons.

I also probably wouldn't have bothered calling the cops. They wouldn't have a clue how to find the culprit in the first place. Mtl cops remind me of the keystone cops.

After having read the various entries here, I would put it down to experience and go on with my life. Find a friend, talk it out, take more care next time. This is a dirty business, populated with some real nut jobs. Either accept that, learn to deal with it , protect yourself OR get out. I'm not telling you to get out, I'm advocating that you begin the healing process and get on with enjoying the hobby. The girl has been outed in general, and I doubt the police are going to be effective.

Hello all,

To reply to various PMs : No I will not give out her real name or contact info by PM. As I've said, I think, at worst she was misguided and greedy and do not wish her bad things. Who knows who you are or what your intentions are.

Also, the bit about her writing "I want to kill you" which I never really viewed as a thread was a mix up with text messages. Her VERY long one came out of order and with significant time delay. The first message started with that but the full sentence when put in proper sequence was "Stop saying that I want to kill you" So much for technology improving communications.

Just a cog in a machine?

It has been suggested elsewhere that this girl may just be a cog in a larger machine. Perhaps a much larger machine.
In other words, she is an employee and management decided that I was an interesting identity theft target.
She had no choice but to obey the orders from her boss and things went very wrong, partly perhaps because she genuinely
liked me and felt sorry for me.

If this is the case she would a victim too, ultimately.

If so all I can say : I am so very sorry for having started this thread.
I hope you are not at risk and will somehow cope with difficult circumstances.
Forgive me but I took what happened very personally given our previous interactions.

It seems most likely what happened was nothing but the actions of a couple of young inexperienced grifters, but I really don't know what to think frankly.

My advise for those reading this who are in many cases probably as lost as me.

I honest don't know if my advice isn't to simply stop this activity period. The stress I have been under recently does not seem worth a lifetime of sexual pleasure.
Check Laslow's hierarchy of needs and you will find sex below stuff like safety and survival. I'm not in psych, feel free to quible.

This is my advice if you chose to partake in what now seems a very dangerous activity :
NEVER EVER MEET AN SP OUTSIDE OF HOTEL ROOMS AND CIRCUMSTANCES COMPLETELY UNDER YOUR CONTROL
NEVER TRUST ANYONE, PERIOD (SPs, Other posters on boards, whatever). THINGS MAY BE VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE WAY THEY FIRST APPEAR.

BEST OF LUCK ALL AND BE FUCKING CAREFUL. LAST POST I THINK FOR AWHILE.

'the hobby' is not a place for those who do not have a grip on their emotions.

Hello Dr,

Please take the source into consideration when evaluating information that is posted on the boards. The person you are referencing is the former owner of MTLC who was busted last year. This individual seems to have some serious persecution issues and appears to be a fan of conspiracy theories. He has his own personal agenda to push and that is one of the reasons this person is banned from posting on MERB.

Please do not start believing other's ideas when you were the one this happened to. If others wish to blow this situation out of proportion that is their problem. I would advise you not to let it become yours also.

As always, our advice remains the same and that is that you should file a police report as soon as possible and then you may be able to put this behind you. The more you read the ranting of paranoid infividuals or those who are simply full of BS, the more paranoid you will become.
