Online escorts are off limits: Cops crack down on e-hookers

The arrest of a high-class escort and seizure of $150,000 in assets is the latest bust in a Toronto Police crackdown on online sex and pimps who blatantly advertising underage hookers on craigslist and other websites.

Toronto vice cops said craigslist.org has become one of the top sites in the city for finding prostitutes, escorts, massage and other services geared to both sexes.

The postings are usually placed by pimps and contain the woman's sexual specialities, price list, hours of business and a scantily-clad photo of the prostitute, police said.

"Our main goal is to get the pimps and young girls off the streets," said Det.-Sgt. Howie Page, of 51 Division plainclothes unit.

"Our officers are going through the Internet and newspapers on a daily basis searching for illegal activity."

This seems to be geared to incalls only. Advertising explicit sexual services has always been an issue. Initially escorts would get around this by using euphemisms (e.g. "donations") to indicate that remuneration is involved. In addition to this disclaimers can often be found within the text of ads (e.g. "rates are for companionship only........."). If the Toronto police are going to initiate a widespread campaign against prostitution including stings for outcalls, clients would be wise to have remuneration in an unmarked envelope left in plain view on a table or chair. For the "visitor" finding such an envelope and pocketing it, it would be a fortunate case of serendipity indeed. There are other strategies used by the boys on the streets but I think everyone gets the idea and no need for overkill here. In any event, at this point it seems to be more a point for discussion by the terb bunch. Of course it never hurts to err on the side of caution

Why are LE's views towards prostitution so different in Toronto as compared to Mtl? Two cities close to one another, yet so far.

1. I think the age of the escorts had something to do with it. If you notice, it said "underage" early on. I think you will get little argument here that those who offer underage escorts deserve to get busted.

2. I think the difference is that Toronto is very much like a North American city and Montreal is more like a European city, and we all know which continent has the healthier attitude toward sex.

Why are LE's views towards prostitution so different in Toronto as compared to Mtl? Two cities close to one another, yet so far.

The attitudes towards a great many issues are different for the two provinces. Bumfie is right to a great extent. There is a more rational attitude towards life and living, a greater "joie de vivre" if you like in Quebec. It is more open, very much like Europe. I live in Ontario between Ottawa and Montreal so I feel I can speak with some experience. Ontario is much more straight-laced. Perhaps it stems from the famous "sang froid." I suspect that may have something to do with it. In any event there is a good side and a bad side, a case to be made for each, though depending on your point of view and where you are in life. Now if someone can ever explain to me why an LDL in Ottawa can command $250 for a fair performance compared to a much more attractive and GFE one in Montreal for $160 and the two cities separated by a relatively short drive to boot, that will give me the last piece of the puzzle. The only 3 reason LE will do an investigation, here in Montreal, are if someone make a complain, if the girls are under 18 years old or they suspect that the girl is force by someone else, so she is acting against her will.

In Quebec province it's legal to have sex with someone who got 14+ years of age at 2 conditions:

• The other person agree to have sex (the girl agree, no need for parent approval).
• And you are not in any position of authority over her, like you are her teacher, employer (she work for you), psychologist, ect...

So if you hire an underage, she is working for you, so it's illegal to have sex with her.

Our government did try to change that law to increase the age to 18 years old, but since that law was already set up by the Supreme Court, they decided to leave it like it was.

Another thing that is not legal is to live or own a "maison de debauche" (if someone can translate that expression for me, I didn't find any English term for that). If you got too many visitors, the neighbor will complain and you will have a visit from the LE.

And if they think a girl or a group of girls is acting against their will, they will try to stop it.

The paper that published that series of articles
is infact a major carrier of escort ads. Part of the motivation
for the articles is to scare escorts away from
the internet, particularly CL, where escorts can advertise
free. If you read the articles carefully there is no departure
from previous LE policy, LE are primarily interested in:
- underage girls
- girls with outstanding immigration issues
-girls who are forced to work
-agencies that permit drugs
-street workers
The Toronto Sun articles contain a lot of inaccuracies
and half-truths. Toronto Police have stated that
they are not interested in women who voluntarily choose
to work in the adult entertainement industry.

Just to make it clear... from what I've read elsewhere... I think the age of consent is 14 usually but if you are paying for sex then its 18

In Quebec its 14, Ontario 16...I don't know for the other province.
