To the American government in 1945, American lives were worth more - as it ought to have been.

The lives of American soldiers were more important than the lives of Japanese women and children who played no part in their government's decision to go to war??
I don't dispute that the government held that cowardly conviction in 1945 -I was disgusted with cloudsurf for agreeing with it, and we can now add you to that list.
Your comment implies that you are an absolute coward that would trample women and children while running from a theatre fire...

gugu I`m not against any race or religion, but I am for protecting democracies from extremists who want to destroy them.
When Chomsky called the attack on Pearl Harbour an act of self defence....I found that statement beyond ridiculous.

BTW for what its worth....I consider myself to be a Libertarian along the lines of Bill Maher.

No, your statement that deliberately incinerating civilian women and children in a horrific nuclear attack is an act of self-defense is beyond ridiculous - At least Pearl Harbour was a military target.

She probably obtained them in a Crackerjack box.

Seriously though, the Dems love Michele Bachmann. She's doing the GOP more damage than they could do themselves with all the money in the world!

On a more serious note, when the GOP loses the next election, will we see a third party composed of former GOP moderates popping up on the political scene? Seriously, the GOP cannot afford to maintain the status quo when the nutbars are currently running the asylum!

Really Doc? You are a disrespectful and hateful person, buddy.

Michelle Bachmann makes more sense than you will ever make.

The Dems are going down to massive defeat in November. The people of the US are waking up to the debt and wealth destruction of Obama and his cronies.

I can't think of an exception to the following rule:
During wartime, every country uses propaganda to dehumanize its opponents. All combatants attempt to protect the lives of their own population (soldiers and civilians) and regard the lives of its enemies as having little value.

The Germans had no compunctions about bombing civilian targets in England. The Japanese killed millions of Chinese civilians.
Any of the combatants in WWII would have, without a nano-second of hesitation, used the atom bomb to terrorize their enemy into submission rather than engage in conventional warfare and lose the lives of ten of thousands of their own soldiers. The only reason that the Americans were the only ones to use nuclear weapons is that they were the only ones to have them available then.

As for Bachmann, I find it weird that the leadership of the Republican Party has publicly deplored her actions, yet she is defended here. Even she has been reduced to claiming that her written words have been misunderstood rather than defending her accusations.

What's weird about it? Bachmann has a legitimate point. Have you read what she wrote, anon_vlad?

Can you tell me why Abedin should be given a pass in just a review of her vetting, or another short investigation? If there is nothing to hide, Clinton and Abedin should welcome it, shouldn't they?

Bachmann also raised question why a known terrorist gained access to the White House and received a special visa. Is that not an important issue?

I am a thinking person. Just because the leadership of the Republican Party says something, I don't blindly follow and agree. Maybe some of the drone liberals do, but I will not. I read about the subject and make up my mind from the information I can find. If I think Bachmann makes more sense, I agree with her. If I do not, I don't agree with her. That's how thinking people form opinions.

Read? I thought you were only watching fox news on television. I am happy to learn that you also read their Internet site. It certainly makes you a better informed sheep.

During wartime, every country uses propaganda to dehumanize its opponents. All combatants attempt to protect the lives of their own population (soldiers and civilians) and regard the lives of its enemies as having little value.

While I agree that it is certainly true for the Pentagone, it is utterly false for the american population. When it goes to war, the propaganda campaign is precisely designed to make the american people think that civilian casualties are collateral damage.

I am amazed to see that some people still think today that the use of atomic weapons against Japan in WW-2 was legitimate. It just blows my mind.[/QUOTE]

As far as Israel is concerned, I don`t find any of their 1 millon Arab citizens uprising against so called Israeli "repression" like Syrians, Libyans etc have done. They know that they have it better than in any neighbouring country.
Wow!! You probably think that the Africans in Georgia in 1850 loved slavery. This is the single most uninformed statement made in all of merb history.

LOL!

Cloudsurf must be a "thinking person" as well :eyebrows:

One of her "degrees" is from Anal Roberts University for Teabaggers and Religious Loonies. I'm not sure this counts as a degree in the real world.

It does for all the "thinking people." I guess we just aren't great thinkers.

Rumps, care to mention what school you went to? Bet no one has ever heard of it. It was probably a school for Left-wing pre-Occupiers and nut cases.

Man, rumps, since you are a Jew from Brooklyn you sure hate your own people. No, Cloudsurf is right. You don't see the Arabs of Israel protesting. They know that they have it much better than the Arabs from neighboring Arab countries and Iranians in Iran for that matter. Your statement is the most uninformed statement made in all of merb history. All of your statements fit that category, including the baseball thread.

Nice work, you just trumped Cloudsurf. Tell me, DD, is ignorance, indeed, bliss?

BTW, merb does have a strict rule against posting personal information.

Did you read Bachmann's statement? Probably not, since it seems you do not like to read.

I will post part of it. The part I underlined previously:

“Most recently, the State Department shockingly decided to give Hani Nour Eldin, a member of an Egyptian designed terrorist group, a visa to not only enter the country in violation of the federal laws prohibiting material support for terrorism, but to be granted a meeting inside the White House with National Security Council officials.

Go throw around your McCarthyism name calling crap. Instead of intelligently discussing issues, you always denigrate others, like myself, with baseless attacks and name calling.

http://bachmann.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=303509

DD

First, your hardcore Conservative pal Rollins threw out the McCarthy comment. Call him about it...and call him a Liberal like you call anyone like him who opposes your opinion.

Second, I realize you believe in Bachman because she confirms what you think. No one learns anything by looking for people who only give them the answers they want. But even among the most prominent leaders of the entire Republican Party they believe she is totally out of line. Why should anyone take her word for any evidence when her own party leader Boehner, the Speaker of the House, thinks her view is "DANGEROUS", and her campaign manager Ed Rollins matches her view with an infamous witch hunter like McCarthy.

Third and most importantly, if Bachman got the basic facts about Eldin right, neither she nor anyone has shown the least bit of any connection of Abedin with Eldin, so there is no cause at all to investigate her beyond the original vetting.

"If there is nothing to hide"...

You don't like being connected to McCarthy yet you support the precise mantra he used to persecute people. Isn't it classic how the ultra-Conservatives who always get so pissed off about having their rights violated, especially concerning government intrusion into their lives, have no problem with insisting everyone should just submit to government investigations on suspicions of the most specious kind.

When Chomsky called the attack on Pearl Harbour an act of self defence....I found that statement beyond ridiculous.

I have to ask if you are informed on the U.S. trade policies and actions that were cutting off essential supplies for what has been one of the most import dependent countries for raw materials in the world? I am not saying the embargo on Japan wasn't justified or that the attack of Dec 7, 1941 wasn't despicable, but the self-defense argument from the Japanese angle is perfectly realistic despite the fact they were defending conquest, pillage, and tyranny.

Whatever Chomsky may be, I never heard any notable (or any) historian fail to point out that from Japan's view it was "self-defense".

Man, rumps, since you are a Jew from Brooklyn you sure hate your own people.

I guess I missed this info before, but if Rumps is Jewish I didn't know until this. Isn't this a little personal and out of line?

Geeeez,

So what if he changes it to a "amish guy from intercourse pa"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercourse,_Pennsylvania it does not matter unless he knows rumps for real, therefore it is all speculation and joking around and not personal info, I have met rumps and as far as I know he is not from NYC, nor do I care. I could be from Toronto one day, Montreal the next and Orange County Cali tomorrow, and maybe lets say....the inner city of Philly in 2 more weeks, see how it works? .... calling someone ignorant is entirely different and you know it, but wont admit it, that I am positive about. Again, who cares about these politicians, for the most part they are spoiled rich dopes who are all about themselves.

I guess I missed this info before, but if Rumps is Jewish I didn't know until this. Isn't this a little personal and out of line?

isnt rumpie calling DD "ignorant"

I agree that rumple is indeed getting into personal matters when calling dd an ignorant. Since no one has noticed it before, maybe this info should be kept secret.

Yeah, there are plenty of insults going around. However, if this is true about Rumples background it's a personal info violation joking or not. That's a difference from insults...and calling someone..."a Jew"... rather than Jewish is not exactly cool to say the least.

Merlot, I am a Jew. I am Jewish. What's the difference? One is a noun and the other is an adjective. It still makes me Jewish no matter what.

I saw someone who knows rumps say he is Jewish here on Merb. It was never countered or denied. Rumps has said he is from Brooklyn. So it's my assumption that rumps is Jewish like me. If he is Jewish, he certainly isn't proud of it or of Israel, which is a gutsy and great democracy in an area that has no democracies. I am proud of being Jewish and of Israel. I will defend Israel to my death.

If rumps is Christian, that is okay. My assumption and what I have read was wrong. There is no shame of being who you are, Jew, Christian, Hindi, Buddist, or Muslim (non-extremist).

Really? Really? Can you document this any more than any of the gibberish that you spout?

For the record, I am not nor have I ever been from Brooklyn. I did, however, long ago, spend a couple of nights there. So DD didn't really belch any private information, though he did try. As always, facts are as foreign to him as they are to the delirious Bachmann.
