Yes ... and in Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire, especially, such madness is echoed in the deliberate narrative breakdown of the films themselves.

After an arduous three hours, his last movie, Inland Empire, ends with what must be one of the great needle drops in movie history. Along the way you can find references to his earlier work, which was often permeated by an obsession with "troubled women."
