You kidding me??? It tastes better than that Philly stuff. Breaks my heart, however I think it's a marketing ploy like JayZ's faux retirement just to set up a comeback in 2 seconds. Least I hope i this case.

In a crushing blow to bagel-obsessed Montrealers (and tourists in the know), dairy maker Liberté has axed its luscious, tangy, thick, yet somehow also light and airy, cream cheese — the preferred spread for many a St-Viateur Bagel or Fairmount Bagel purchase.
Now crammed at the bottom of Liberté’s FAQ page is an unsatisfying answer to a question that’s recently plagued some Montrealers: Where did all our Liberté go?
“We’re sorry that you have been unable to find our cream cheese. This product [sic] been discontinued as it’s no longer feasible for Liberté to continue delivering the high quality product and the value that users expect of Liberté Cream Cheese,” the company states. It still makes yogurts, sour cream, cottage cheese, kefir, and goat milk.
According to Montreal Jewish food historian Kat Romanow, who broke the news in a post on the Nosher, Liberté felt there was insufficient demand for the cream cheese. Eater has reached out to Liberté parent company General Mills to learn more about its decision to kill a product it once called “a source of pride for more than 80 years” and “the most sought-after spreadable cheese for Montréal-style bagels.”

yeah, also the Liberté quark (fresh cheese) seems almost impossible to find now. Very sad.

Guys in Burlington they have a place called Myers bagels that specializes in wood fried Montreal style bagels. Not to be missed! More than holds its own against St. Viateur or Fairmount and a bigger line than either place (mostly UVM students)

Liberté was the best, no contest, I truely miss it. I was raised next to St-Viateur bagels, they remain my favorite but Fairmounts are almost just as good.

Cream cheese is cream cheese... The No Name brand is now at 2 for $5 at Maxi. Just spread on a hot bagel and add some smoked salmon, capers and a bit of lemon juice and you will be in heaven. No Liberté??? Who cares?

At the risk of having rocks throw at me, the Rawesome (vegan) cream cheese is quite exquisite. As someone who also eat dairy cheese once in a while, this one is better than a lot of them. it is also a local product. https://rawesome.ca/fr
Agree with you there. Don't knock it till you try it. I have no access to Rawesome but I did try vegan cream cheese and other variety of vegan cheeses and they do not disappoint at all. They are a bit pricey but once you find a good pairing for the vegan cheese you are using you will not regret it. Just have to look at the ingredients though and make sure there are not too many strange stuff like fillers and such.

@Rosie Sparkles Merci pour les alternatives proposées (the Rawesome (vegan) cream cheese is quite exquisite). De belles découvertes en perspective.
