What about you buy them and have them shipped to somebody close to the border and you go pick them up there ? I have a buddy who lived not far from the border. So I'd ship to his house and he either comes up to hobby and bring with him or I'd go down to drink all his beer ! Lost track of him now since he moved to Houston ... .

There are many small business stores like Mail Boxes Etc that provide UPS, FedEx and post office boxes.
A lot of American EBay sellers do not ship outside the US, so this is a way around it.

NEVER use the Ebay duty free option. It is the biggest ripoff I have ever seen.

Look behind you.
Finding someone just across the border is great, my son gets all his car parts sent to his cousin and drives for a visit when they arrive. Figures he saved $3000.00 by buying in the US over the years, not so much now due to our dollar value.

I'm fairly lucky for this. I live about an hour away from the border and there's a hardware store that specializes in Canadian customers. I can have stuff shipped there and they'll hang onto it almost indefinitely, they told me they don't throw things out they've held onto boxes for 5+ years. They just charge $3 per item once you pick it up. It allows me to pick up stuff later when not in a hurry, when I stay in the states over 48hrs to get the duty allowance. Even in a hurry, I save just with shipping. I had ordered alloy wheels and it would have cost $250 to ship to my house. Driving 1hr across the border saved me $200 in shipping.

I use a service near the Champlain, NY border
I concur, I've been using one in Champlain and one in VT many times (depending on their opening hours and other things I wanted to do in the area), all part of the kinek.com network, and it worked great, only $5 fee for handling.
Some store only accept US creadit cards... try sme that accept Paypal
Some don't like the non-matching addresses, you may be able to get your bank to add shipping address as an address on the card.
I always declare everything (well... the big items!) when crossing back, fill the paperwork, pay my 15%, it's perfectly legal!

It is amazing some of the prices you can get in the US. At Home Depot they sell plastic tool boxes for $50, you can get it at Platsburg for $18.

Canada really sucks for products... There is very limited selection here. The things I want are not sold her and all are available from the US... But there is customs and duties. I heard those can be hefty. Does anyone have an idea as to how it is? Unfortunately the steep customs and duties makes you loose the savings you make.

Don't forget that Canada Customs adds GST and PST or HST on the purchase price even if there is no Duty payable .
Fed Ex and UPS also add " Customs Clearance fees " which are clearly a rip off.
US vendors shipping costs to Canada seem to assume Canada is offshore New Zealand instead of 20 miles from Buffalo
All this will change when Trump annexes Canada

Around Montréal...
Allo Panthere,

Bon magasinage!! :tea:
