Yes, closed. I thought that's why CB started this thread. I spent a good 15 years there myself. Don't forget the rooftop terrace! For those who don't know, wowwwwwwwwwwwwww what a party and a half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP for the second time!!

I was there for about 15 years as well. Rooftop was ok but for me the action was mostly in the basement disco. BTW the Thursdays we are bidding farewell to is not the original bar anyway. The new one had the name only IMHO. When they reopened they even refused to rehire anyone from the original waitstaff or security.

Lol...Mike was a cool guy. He was tough but once you got in good with him he would let you through the line up. There was also the other doorman Danny and a guy named Robert I believe, the one who looked a bit like Jean-Claude Van Damme. Once when I was talking to a sexy chick at the bar Danny came up to us and told me my wife was waiting outside! I looked at him aghast and then a big smile crossed his face. Haha...what a joker.

I am wondering whether the online dating websites ultimately brought them down. The real estate they were in is the absolute most prime location in downtown Montreal for a meat market. But I think people now want to meet online. The place reopened in 2012 but thats right around when the online dating sites started to take over. There are now so many of these websites it makes your head spin.

Very good point EB...I don't think the younger generation parties the same way we used to. I suppose many are more comfortable with dating sites. I find these sites completely impersonal and boring. I used to love the thrill of the hunt. Actually looking a girl over and then talking to her. You know, with my mouth. This appears to be old hat now.

Thursday's is now closed

Thursday's bistro closed its doors the day after its New Year's Eve party.

MONTREAL -- The day after staff worked the New Year's Eve party at one of the established joints on Crescent St. in Montreal, Thursday's closed its doors laying off about 100 workers with no notice.

"First day of 2020, our entire team awakens to this completely unexpected news to inaugurate the year," wrote bartender Chloe Ratte on Facebook in an open letter to her ex-employer.

"A few words written dryly to announce the end of an era; the closure of famous Thursday's Montreal on Crescent Street," she wrote.

Ok I don't mean to belabor the point but the "Thursday's " that closed its doors a few hours ago was a mere doppelganger of the original and nothing more. The end of the era actually occurred around 2011 when the original bar closed and the hotel that contained it was eventually torn down. They did a decent job replicating the look and style of the original but it just wasn't the same without the piano bar, rooftop terrace, restaurant or the lobby of the hotel at the back. I could never get over how the new version looked a bit like a wide rectangular bungalow. It looked pretty weird without the hotel surrounding it. I am guessing that most of the patrons from pre-2011 would agree that this just was not the bar we knew and loved.

The new version was also fairly quiet on weekends. During those rare moments when I would venture there on summer nights I was struck by how comparatively dead it was. Did not seem like many people were getting laid there anymore lol. The new downstairs also had a gaudy glitzy look with cordoned off VIP areas. The overzealous bouncers seemed determined to prevent many people from entering the upstairs despite the fact that the place never seemed close to being full.
Sorry but "the end of an era" happened a long time ago.

Passed by Crescent st this evening and

A note posted on the restaurant’s doors says that the “building” will re-open on Jan. 7th.

So we'll see. In any case Crescent St is not happening anymore, its little better on the weekends but
nowhere what it used to be.

Also read another article saying that the former owner is taking the building back
Who opened up another Thursdays down in Fort Lauderdale after he closed the Montreal one.

LOL. Danny did this to me as well. Danny was the best out of the bunch. Another good one he would use is, he would look at the girl you are with and then ask you is this same girl you were with last night? LMAO!!

He closed down in Fort Lauderdale in 2018. So it would make sense that perhaps he bought back the business (he is still the building owner) so his son or someone else could reopen and run it again? Or perhaps transform the building for condos... My guess is it will be reopen as a restaurant/club.

Cheers,

Well the real story behind Thursdays is that the orginal owner Bernard had a 1 year deal with Nakis and she didnt fulfill her engagement. So he's taking back the bar and it will reopen on the 7th of January. Maybe his son will run it like he used to previously cause Bernard is very ill and older now. But rest assured, Thursdays isnt dead...

Where are you going with this or just trying to impress with your math skills?

I think what he means is Thursday's is old school club that do not attract younger generation anymore. I tend to agree. Nothing bad or good about it. Just a matter of things changing.

Look behind you.
^^^^^ If you are over 30 and go clubbing...... well. As you age goes up the well gets deeper. My daughter mentioned a few times that older people are referred to as creepy perverts in clubs.
