Ok I don't mean to belabor the point but the "Thursday's " that closed its doors a few hours ago was a mere doppelganger of the original and nothing more. The end of the era actually occurred around 2011 when the original bar closed and the hotel that contained it was eventually torn down. They did a decent job replicating the look and style of the original but it just wasn't the same without the piano bar, rooftop terrace, restaurant or the lobby of the hotel at the back. I could never get over how the new version looked a bit like a wide rectangular bungalow. It looked pretty weird without the hotel surrounding it. I am guessing that most of the patrons from pre-2011 would agree that this just was not the bar we knew and loved.
The new version was also fairly quiet on weekends. During those rare moments when I would venture there on summer nights I was struck by how comparatively dead it was. Did not seem like many people were getting laid there anymore lol. The new downstairs also had a gaudy glitzy look with cordoned off VIP areas. The overzealous bouncers seemed determined to prevent many people from entering the upstairs despite the fact that the place never seemed close to being full.
Sorry but "the end of an era" happened a long time ago.
