That's fine I'll take the optional option...Believe me, before reading this thread I already had in mind that the miserable season she had had something to do with her ''love'' life. She used to be a nice discreet girl concentrated on her sport, now we hear about her hanging out in public with some hockey player...Obviously something has changed for her in the last year. I might be wrong (mind you, it could be all that money blowing out her mind) , but I could be damm right.
If you want my opinion, here it is:
It has nothing to do with the fact she's going out with Jordan Caron. As a matter-of-fact, they've been an item for nearly 3 years. People simply believed the b.s. that she was claiming that 'they were just friends'. Yeah, right!
Firing her longtime coach Nick Saviano surely didn't help matters. They had been a team since she was 12 years old.
She may be suffering from some form of sophomore jinx. But my take on it is that she's been simply overwhelmed with all the hoopla surrounding her. She's now a global star, much more than simply being a Canadian or Quebecois star. She now has all kinds of lucrative marketing endorsement contracts with various companies, including modelling gigs. She's learning that life at the top isn't always what it's made out to be. Other young former tennis prodigies fell victim to the pressure: Jennifer Capriati & Ana Ivanovic, among many others. It's could to see that Ivanovic has now re-found her game, but she's a mentally fragile athlete and still hasn't totally regained her confidence. In an individual sport such as professional tennis, confidence is responsible for 90% of a player's success....or failures.
Miss Bouchard also has different people advising her. Her so-called 'team' shields her from criticism and the 'real' world as much as possible. What Eugenie Bouchard has needed for nearly a year is a sports psychologist, which is the last thing her 'team' wants. They do not want any 'sports psychologist' to poison her mind against them or what would actually be the most beneficial for her.
Bouchard has also had to deal with various injuries over the season. Several of those injuries were suffered during her surprisingly successful first year and she has yet to fully heal from them. Blame the rigorous and very demanding WTP schedule for this. Another reason i believe for her disappointing play is her playing weight. The baby fat is now gone. She's thinner than she was a year ago (heck, she barely has any boobs left!) and just taking a look at her thighs and comparing them to last year's and you'll see what i mean. The people she replaced the Saviano team convinced her that the way to go was to get fitter and thinner, which would not only lead to a better game, but would be more beneficial for modelling endorsements and contracts.
Eugenie Bouchard may or may not bounce back. I'd say that as of now, the odds are against her. She needs to make drastic changes in her professional life and i'm not convinced these changes will come anytime soon. Re-uniting with Nick Saviano and dedicating herself 100% to him would be a good start, but her 'team' will not allow this.
I've tremendously enjoyed watching her a year ago. She's still by far the best female tennis player this country has every produced. I'll forever be a fan.
