Bouchard loses to Kuznetsova in straight sets

Well, as i predicted Eugenie Bouchard has come back to Earth, losing to 8th-ranked Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4 and 6-0.

Let's be real here: she barely beat Sharapova after Maria's been off the courts in over a year. She then lucked out in facing an ailing Angelique Kerber who couldn't finish the match due to a thigh injury. Had Kerber been healthy, there's no chance in hell Bouchard would have beat her.

But there's no doubt the Madrid tournament was a boost in confidence for Canada's top female tennis player.

This is tennis. You loose a lot. To win a master it's 5 in a row, only one does. A grand it's 7, again only one does, all other player do not.

What matters is the 3 win she got. If she can build on that she can be contender time to time. But she will never be a serena or a steffie graf, dont get me wrong.

On top of being a super good player, she is cute as hell ;)

Cheers,

Doc doc doc ;) Please read Andre Agassi's bio. It's a great read and it shows you how lonely and amazingly difficult tennis is. Losing all these games all the time.

Cheers,

That's the problem with Eugenie she's not lonelly. If we can take the rumors for what they are, she's labeled as not a party girl but a party animal. Apparently she travels with her sibling (party animal also) and her mom. She showed that she has great talent but her focus is not there to become a dangerous contender.

I am not totally convinced she has the talent to be a top 10 player but if she is a "party animal" for sure we will never know

Sergio Garcia had a similar rep for many years - party animal. But he is mega talented and at 37 a more mature adult which is why he won the Masters. He was before his win the most talented golfer without a major without any question. I don't feel like Bouchard is as talented however as Sergio is at golf - which makes a good work ethic essential to her improvement.

She doesn't seem like the party animal type and it's the first time i've seen or heard about these rumours. Her twin sister Beatrice is definitely a party animal. But although they are twins, they are very different. Beatrice has absolutely no athletic ability at all according to Genie. They hang with different crowds and B's idea of hard work is spreading sun tanning oil on herself while spending a few hours at the beach while Genie spends a great deal of time staying in shape in a gym and then hitting balls on a tennis court. The younger and more beautiful sibling (Charlotte) is currently spending her time travelling across Europe. She also has no athletic ability. But these girls have always had it made and have never had a need to worry about working or money, so i'm still giving credit to Genie for her work ethic and ambition to be an elite tennis player.

I don't question Genie's work ethic. But it's quite possible (and likely) that she's a top 100 player and not a top 20 player. No matter how hard she works to improve her game, maybe she simply doesn't have the 'elite' talent required to be a constant 'elite' player.

Sure, she had success early in her career. But she literally popped out of nowhere. Now players know more about her game, which isn't a very complicated game. She never adjusts her own game when she needs to and the unforced errors keep on piling on when she starts to lose her confidence during a match.

Time will tell if she can rebound and be a dominant player. If she has the potential to be a consistent 'elite' player, then the problem is between the ears and/or work ethic. But she does have a good work ethic and i now am starting to doubt if the problem really is between the ears. I now believe it's now more a talent problem.

My prediction for Paris?? She'll get her butt kicked back to South Beach after her first match. She may not even win a single set!!!
