.99 cents per liter. Time for the gas price strike.

Soon they will be tacking on the big "1" in front of the price per liter of gasoline. It is time to act. There is a gas price stike in California where the gas consumers buy as little as possible. How it would work her is, you have to buy as little gas as necessary and then at the end of the price you always buy .55 cents to let the gas comapnies know that you are not happy and are buying as little as possible. (example $5.55, $10.55, $15.55 ect. ect........always ending in .55 cents) The 55 was chosen because in the oil shortages of the early 80s the US government lowered the highway speeds from 85 MPH to 55 MPH.

Think a litre of gas is expensive?
This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective:

- Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ....... $10.32 per gallon
- Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 .........$9.52 per gallon
- Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon
- Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ..... $10.00 per gallon
- Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 . ....$33.60 per gallon
- Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 .... $178.13 per gallon
- Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .... $123.20 per gallon
- Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... $25.42 per gallon
- Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 ....$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...
Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?!
$21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source.
(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismol or Nyquil...

Question for you guys:

Is it worth it once in a while to go over the border into Champlain/Plattsburgh and fill up there?

I fill my tank before going north over the border because of the gas price in Canada.

At about $2.20 US a gallon, that's about 58 US cents per liter, which would be about 72 Canadian cents per liter (if my calculations are accurate).

I highly doubt it, or at least they wouldn't be able to do it in large quantities since certain turcks are required to transport the gas.

Here are our choices. Do something to let them know that we are not mindless fools that will pay any price, or do nothing and accept any price increase. I think people will not wake up until they tack that "1" in front of the price sign.

Other than the US, I believe none of those countries are oil producing countries as Canada is. Try comparing our prices with those in the OPEC countries such as Saudi Arabia or Kuwait and then we will see how we stack up. Our biggest problem with gas prices is due to the greedy gov't we have. The higher the price the more taxes they make. If the gov't of Quebec and Canada were serious about keeping prices down they would take a fixed amount of tax per litre instead of adding to the price gouging. They could also remove the legislated minimum price and actually allow some real competition in our so called free market. They should actually legalize drugs because the prices they would charge would get more people to stop using them than any laws they currently have, which have no effect at all.

The UK is a net oil exporter (the north sea is full of oil fields, which is presumably why Norway is one of the richest countries in the world), which the US certainly isn't.

The problem you have with gas prices is greedy consumers who can't figure out they should use less of the stuff and not drive stupidly oversize vehicles.

Canadian Tire Sells Gas

Peterpanjr,
Canadian Tire sells gas.They have a few gas stations in Montreal,
Jean Talon E/Lacordaire,Sherbrooke E(PAT),Masson/Iberville,
Blvd Taschereau,in Sherbrooke King E/Fleurimont of the top of my head.

They will not accept Canadian Tire Money as payment for gas.
Make sure you have back-up.

Also check the various consumer reports about the Canadian Tire
garages and you will change your mind quickly.

As supplies arrive and the refineries have to process this gas, this will mean that there will be a large supply of new gas as well as older gas in the taks. The prices have to drop so that supplies can be moved out, this is the time to buy at the lower price. Canadian tire offers Canadian Tire money as a bonus when you buy gasoline at their gas stations ( I can save $1.60 per tank), and Ultramar has a promotion where you can save a dollar when you buy 25 liters of gas. Reward these places with your patronage. This is something that all of us can do, rather than bitch about the high gas prices. Just think of it this way, if you all followed my advice. The savings can translate into several SP or MP visits.

The gas prices are now at approx. .92 - 93 cents per liter, but the price per barrel is at or near $60 U.S.D. Your best bet is to buy gas at these prices if you can still get them, I suspect that later today or later this week the prices will go higher.
The gas companies have to get rid of existing inventories in their tanks so that they can bring in their new inventories that are produced at the refineries. The gas companies have to "yoyo" the prices to keep inventories flowing, so take advantage of this when the prices are low. The prices are sure to go higher soon.

Basically the "Free" part of any offer is always the most expensive part
of the offer.The only thing that is "Free" is the profit made by those offering
the offer since the dollar value is factored into the selling price.Since a
significant part of the targeted consumer group does not actually
redeem coupons or waits years to gather a significant value in Canadian
Tire money the companies come out much further ahead with the "Free"
offer then with giving you a reduced price at the time of transaction.

If you want to save money personal/company liquidate your vehicle then rent(not long term lease) or use public transit or taxis.My company
did this in 1997 and the net result is that expenses have been reduced from
the $10,000 - 12,000 range per year to the $4,000 - $4,500 range.Also
you do not have to log and apportion the personal use aspect of a company owned vehicle.Plus you can rent the exact vehicle necessary for that specific
period - when we owned but needed a van or small truck we still had to rent
resulting in the company vehicle being an idle expense.

Finally if you live in an urban center use public transit or taxis.You get around faster,eliminate all parking and insurance expenses.You should average at under $80.00 a week.

Volume corrected...

Make sure you fill-up where meter calibration is performed every year and volume is corrected to 15 C. Some Mom's and Pop's are cheaper but you don't get the actual volume of product displayed on the dispenser.
