So if you are Scheifele, how do you argue this one? I think there are only 3 things he can argue:
1. Checking Evans viciously was the only way to dislodge the puck and stop the empty net goal, even though he got to Evans a split second too late and did not stop the empty net goal
2. No prior disciplinary record
3. If he had stopped Evans from scoring, it would be viewed as a heroic, goal saving check, and Jets are still in the game and might win it.

One thing you learn doing the work that I do, which is sometimes defending the indefensible, is that you NEVER raise a white flag, even when you know you are going down. The above would be my advice to Scheifele as his counsel in the hearing, although I do not believe he will get one.

He will likely be suspended 2-7 games.

The NHL are a bunch of wusses! They will likely give that punk Scheifele a 2-3 game suspension even though he should get 8-10 games.
My concern is that the Habs don't have a "hit man" that can take down/terminate Scheifele or any other player for that matter!

As predicted. Also as predicted is Scheifele made the argument that he heroically attempted to stop a goal from being scored and had an obligation to his team to do so:

LoL!!! Yeah sure!
Scheifele had no intention to make a defensive play because he knew he was late on the play...he could have put on the brakes or have made a sharp turn...but he chose not to do so for the simple pre-meditated reason that he wanted to paste Evans and make him pay for scoring!
There's no difference between that and premeditated attempted murder!

If you watch the reply, he made no attempt to play the puck, if he did he might have prevented Evans from scoring, instead he was hell bent on hitting Evans as hard as possible, Guilty as charged and a real bonehead move by him as he is their best player and now he has handicapped his team big time.
