Guys,

I came across a video of a media interaction by the Habs Director of Hockey Development, one Adam Nicholas, in which he articulately explains the manner, means and methods by which the Habs young players are being developed and trained. His statement is delivered entirely in a very crisp and perfect King's English, and I am sorry about that for you French speaking dudes, but if you have any complaints I would suggest (1) send them by email to Mr. Kent Hughes, or (2) PM Doc Holliday for a translation as he is perfectly bilingual in both French and English:

The funniest part of the Adam Nicholas presser was when the French reporter asked him to dumb it down and explain how he discusses the various theories of cognition he has with the players- he mentioned Denzel Washington's line in that movie with Tom Hanks and asked Nicholas to talk to them like they were educated 6 year olds. Which is exactly what those reporters are LOL.

It’s going to be a very long season for the habs. It seems like management has already given up on the season. Slafkovsky will likely start the season in Laval & will likely only be brought up if he dominates at the minor league level. But this is the right call since there is no rush to win & he needs to learn the pro game & play with adults instead of being rushed into the NHL.

The fans & the media seem to be on board right now but after a month or so of sucking will their patience come to an end? It’s hard for me to imagine fans still willing to spend hundreds of dollars to go & watch the habs when they’ll suck on a regular basis plus they can stay home or go to a bar to watch all their games on tv for free.

The Habs will indeed suck, but it's unknown what the level of suckitude will be. Will they suck monkey balls (low level suckitude), moose balls (medium level suckitude) or hippo balls (high level suckitude)? To be determined. But as we saw with the Leafs, 4-5 years of intense suckitude eventually leads to lots of high picks and a good team. So Gaby, Jupiter et al just need to be patient.

As soon as they called the reconstruction I knew we were in for a 3-4 years of misery, np with that. I'm might be very picky at the games I would attend if I do. I'm not a super crazy fan, I like cheering for them, out of my memories from the 70's, but I aint no drama queen. I am just happy watching a good game regardless of the teams involved.

That's the spirit. I no longer watch non competitive sports. Especially when my team is on the wrong end of a ferocious beating like my UConn Huskies took from Michigan in football a few weeks ago (although UConn stunned Fresno State as a 23 point underdog yesterday). I watched the first quarter of what became a 59-0 loss at Michigan, and couldn't watch any more. I knew after watching one quarter exactly what the final score would be. I even guessed it. But those kids are resilient and played a lot better yesterday.

On the other hand, there is some value to watching a young team develop and grow together. If they are properly coached they will take their lumps and learn and get better. It may take 3-4 years of taking lumps for the young Habs, but if the team keeps the young nucleus together and shows steady improvement, there will be better days ahead. They can do what Toronto did.
