BTW thousand dollar bills have been out of circulation for over 10 years in Canada but close to a million of them are being hoarded.

Note to ladies, if anyone offers you one ask for something else.

A: may be forged, as noted those who have them are keeping them for collector value
B: depositing one at a bank is instant FINTRAK notice
C: banks return them to Bank of Canada to be taken out of circulation. Anyone who says he just withdrew it is lying

Granted that Montreal strip clubs are not as numerous and as good as they used to be, but there are still some good ones, especially when compared to U.S. clubs. It is not true that "The bouncers shake you down for tips and there are all sorts of hidden fees." Another GP weekend myth.

Take the example of the Downtown Club on Ste. Catherine. The entry fee is $5 CDN and you need to tip the bouncer $1-2 when he shows you to a seat. In addition, there is a $5 fee to take a girl into the private dance area. Dances at the DT Club are still $10/dance.

A few girls may try to miscount the dances. Just count them out loud to the girl as you go along and she won't rip you off.

I have been hobbying in Montreal for over 10 years now. I know its not a myth because I experienced all of this myself. The only time I am not solicited a tip is during the daytime, when the line-up is limited. I have been to Downtown, but only during the day so I can't verify tip solicitation. Other places I have been outside of Montreal have included the US, France, and a few in Ontario. In many instances there is no bouncer at the door. You go in, pay the cover charge (if applicable that night) and then go sit wherever you want. If you want a private dance, you only have to pay the stripper. For me its not an issue of expense, its an issue of professionalism. Now at a Montreal strip club you have either one or all of these issues:
1. Tip solicitation from bouncer - and he 'escorts' you to a seat unsolicited
2. Tip solicitation from the coat check person
3. When you want a private dance you pay the dancer and pay the club for use of the private dance area. Its not one point of sale, but two.
4. I have been to three clubs where the 'champagne room' was not private and either had see through curtains or glass windows/doors...they were designed to be non-private. Was not an issue for me but the UTR SP I had with me felt she could not relax and enjoy the experience. She was attracting too many stares. In other cities she's been fine joining me at a strip club for some post-dinner fun.

The only place out of the ones I mentioned where I experienced 'no contact' was Montreal, which is radically different from what I expected. I got ten times the service and professionalism from a strip club in a small Illinois town than I did in Montreal. In short, if the clubs charged more and paid their people better and stopped all the shenanigans, I would feel much better about it.

One final note on the bouncers, 'soliciting a tip' is a very soft term, when someone tells you that you have to pay him a toonie or leave thats a shakedown. I would also like to note that they do not perform their actual 'bouncing duties'. At Chez Paree once there was a stag party and the DJ said on 3 different occasions that no one should take any pictures. When the groom was up there on stage butt naked dancing with a stripper someone started taking pictures/video. I expected the bouncers to bundle him up quickly and escort him out, and destroy the phone. Instead they did absolutely nothing and it was the strippers who had to stop the guy from taking more pics and he 'deleted' the photos but really no way to be sure. Bouncers are just there to shakedown people for tips.

1. Like I said, the cost is $1 minimum, $2 maximum. Big deal.
2. There is no coat check at the Downtown Club.
3. Like I said, there is a $5 fee each time you take a girl to the private dance area. Since dances at the DT Club still only cost $10 each, the $5 fee is a minor extra charge. Also it is not "hidden"-you must pay it before entering the private dance area. If this small extra fee is a deal-breaker for some guys on a low budget, then they probably should not patronize strip clubs at all.
4. The booths at DT are reasonably private.

Contact dances are more liberal and significantly less expensive than at the vast majority of clubs in the U.S. Where in the U.S. can you get a contact dance with an attractive girl for $7.50 US ($10CDN)?

Though I haven't been to any other clubs besides the DT Club in recent years, there are still some other pretty good clubs (check the reviews). However as far as I know, the others all charge $20/dance. Whether that's worth it or not depends on how much a guy values the strip club experience. To advise a newbie to avoid Montreal strip clubs because they are ripoffs is misleading and unjustified by the facts.

It's all about perspective

I occasionally play at a club here in the US with a $10 cover and VIP room that is $90 for 30 min. I always tip the bouncer $10 because some VIP rooms are nicer than others. The lady joining me appreciates a gift of $100 to $150 for our time together. I'm all in for around $200 - $250 for the half hour with a 5 or 6 on the stripper scale. So dropping $50 Canadian for warm-up dances before seeing one of our your 8+ GFE agency escorts for $200-$250 Canadian looks really good to me.

Oh, and I was shocked to hear that some of your dancers have trouble counting dances. We have the same problem here. Maybe some of your ladies went to US schools?

Of course because DT is the only strip club in Montreal. As for the expenses, I was very clear that the issue was the constant shakedown for tips and separate fees being paid to different parties, it does not matter if its $0.25 or $1.5 or $2.0. I should not have to be constantly making change to pay the stripper, the bouncers, the guy in the bathroom handing out mints and the club's management (for the private dance). Its annoying and sleazy. I've been to 375 Euro/dance clubs in Paris (Penthouse and Pink Paradise) and left happy with my experience, where as in Montreal I leave feeling annoyed. There are hidden fees, and even by your calculation that $10 dance being advertized is $17 after tips and fees.

I like that you brought up the American comparison, I will mention a specific example like you did. Big Al's in Peoria (full nudity), IL, has a $5 cover on some nights (Fri and Sat). No tips solicited. Drinks are for $2 (all drinks). You sit at the stage and give the girl a $1 during a dance and she will bend down and squeeze your face between her tits. $20 for a lap dance in a private booth, 5$ for a table dance. The lap dance is a contact dance, and for the VIP room its completely private and whatever happens inside is for consenting adults. The competing strip clubs in that town even offered a car to pick you up from your hotel and drop you off after a night of fun.

So you prefer getting scammed in Europe for 375 Euros  and going to a 5$ strip bar in Peoria to Montreal strip clubs. And the reason is that you hate the $1 tip you are required to give Montreal bouncers. OK I think I got it. Makes perfect sense. :D

Capt Renault described very well the situation.

I suspect Rollingstone got his feedback from Super Sexe visits - before it closed. ;-) But yes, DT area strip clubs are not as good as they used to be.

FWIW, I went to strip clubs in New Orleans, NYC, Houston, Phoenix, Vegas and Honolulu (was waiting for a HNL - OGG connecting flight), and all were not worth the money I spent compared to here.
But hey, I never been to Big Al's in Peoria! A similar sounding name, "Pigales", in Gatineau is my # 1 spot thought. Totally cover free before 7pm, free buffet, $9 30oz draft beer and A1 looking ladies!!! $10 table dances, and $20 for full countact downstair.

By the way, Super Sexe building owner refused a $50000 offer for the "historic" neon sign...
