The US supported dictators for years - Saddam in Iraq as well as the Shah in Iran, Mubarek in Egypt, the Saudis in Saudi Arabia .......

What a sad joke the Americans keep repeating about fighting for freedom. They might still, but only if it coincides with their perceived geopolitical interests.

I have to agree with my bosom buddy anon_vlad, Rwanda is a classic example-

Hey guys,

The cold hard facts are that the USA had nothing to do with this criminal act. This gunmen was a drug addicted loser who reportedly acted in anger after the Canadian government seized his passport and prevented him from traveling to Syria and joining a buddy fighting with ISIS. Can one person in this thread tell me why this guy needed to travel to Syria? Can one person tell me he should not have had his passport seized? Do you guys get that ISIS has money and is recruiting the criminal element in other countries?

Can someone explain what legitimate purposes this guy had in going to Syria?

Agreed, the US certainly isn't responsible for every violent act of every mentally ill person everywhere. Attempting to join a violent group appears to be a symptom of his illness.

Hello all,

The cold hard facts are that the USA had nothing to do with this criminal act.

Absolutely. Does anyone think people like this, the one in Oklahoma City and the like give a damn about politics or religion. These types were usually criminals or repeatedly in trouble with the law before they did anything like this. If they believe in anything about ISIS it's very likely more about an opportunity to run away and join other sociopaths rather than live out beliefs.

What a sad joke the Americans keep repeating about fighting for freedom.

It's an old sacred mantra useful for salesmanship. Who knows what truth is left.

They might still, but only if it coincides with their perceived geopolitical interests.

Just about every country or national group has made deals with philosophical/ideological enemies against a more threatening foe. The old: "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" theory.

The US supported dictators for years - Saddam in Iraq as well as the Shah in Iran, Mubarek in Egypt, the Saudis in Saudi Arabia ........

And a lot more. I never began and never thought to deny any such thing. I still have no idea how past or current ugly political expediency relates to the Parliament shootings except as a very poor excuse. These guys are disturbed. That's all it took.

Boy do i miss Jean Chretien..

The other day i decided to check out Stephen Harper's biography on Wikipedia.

I never realized how unqualified the guy was when he became Canada's Prime Minister. It's astonishing how he ever became head of a major federal political party. He basically was opportunistic & as the old saying goes, he was 'at the right place, at the right time'.

But who would have ever imagined that the Reform Party, whom i had always regarded at the time as a radical right-wing party based in western Canada, would one day rule the country under a new name?

Would Peter MacKay, Peter Clement or Belinda Stronach have been better leaders had they been chosen over Harper to lead the new party after the National Alliance & the Progressive Conservatives merged?
