I have been eating boiled/roasted chicken, brown rice, steamed broccoli, oatmeal, blueberries, fat free milk for five months straight now (record is a year straight)

Yeah, but did it help @rando555 ? How much weight did you end up losing?

@Halloween Mike, I'd recommend you find a sport and go crazy on it during the remainder of the summer while the weather is still nice. I did that last summer with biking and lost ~ 30 lbs.

The winter is much harder to stay in shape. I'd go to the gym whenever I had time, but wasn't really enough. Also doing cardio on machines sucks, lol.

I do workout 6 days/week. It’s now like brushing my teeth since 5 years. During winter, it’s not unusual that I jump in my car wearing shorts and sandals. A big plus is that exercices like box jump overs during training give me some springs when skiing or snowboarding. At 60, it’s not a luxury.
For cardio, it’s mixed up with other routines like lifting and gymnastic (pull-ups, push-ups,etc) so it’s usually not long enough to get bored. Doing it in a CrossFit small group session add for motivation too.
For food, I do eat pretty much everything but I try to keep fried food as low as I can.
Oh, I recently substituted wine for Bubbly :) so I’m slowly getting there (healthy lifestyle).

This looks like a lot of what I have at home.
Add in the boxes of cerials for kids,
Salad kits,
Seaweed snacks,
And tuna cans.

One of my favorite meals to make these days, in a big bowl, is a salad kit, can or 2 of tuna (depending how many will eat), and one of those microwave packs of rice, and some extra cheese(not much). Split between 3-4 people. The kids love it too.

Back in 1992 i was studying to be a plumber and in my class there was a bodybuilder who competed for Mr Montreal he was 34 at that time 5 foot 6 and 170 pounds, I trained with him and i saw what he was eating.

Food is food, there is no going around it a calorie is a calorie, you can do fasting, low carb, keto, carnivore its all the same thing calorie in calorie out. Unless you have an hormone imbalance, thyroid, testosterone etc.

My friend ate carbs, a moderate amount of protein from meat, chicken, eggs, he did not drink protein shakes, after is workout he drank 1l of milk, i remember that. When competition time came he ate the same exact thing except less and did 20 minutes 3 times per week of stationary bike for cardio. He trained 5 times per week volume and went heavy.

I started getting confused back in 1996 when i read Dan Duchaine bodyopus and the CKD diet, 5 days low carb and 2 day refeed. I am back to eating normal now, I got some plant base protein shakes at home but after i finish those i am done with protein powder, honest since i went the 1g per pount of bodyweight i gained weight. And i am not that big, the weight was around the mid section i am 48 so i guess body is changing with age.

I started reading Mike Mentzer training and diet and i really like how brutally honest he was, food is were its at. Not supplement a part creatine the rest.

I got the Kashi go lean cereal high in fiber protein and i mix those with Greek Yogurt, usually does the trick. Cutting out junk like empty calories sugar, fast food etc will make a big difference.

So let's not start cooking right away (or more than what you are doing now).

It could be an ultimate goal, but I'm meeting you where you are at.

Something you can do now, is to make some * slightly better choices * next time you eat, or when you shop. Sometimes, it's easy, sometimes you'll have to think a bit more.

Let me give you examples from your list.

  • Chef boyardi pasta / chunky soup — Perfect, have you Boyardee, but can you add a little salad on the side? All you need is lettuce + cucumber, and just enough of your favorite vinaigrette. It's OK to not have a big, full of veggies salad. We just want a little better for now. Or chopped tomatoes + chopped cucumber + vinaigre balsamic, in a bowl. Requires a knife and 3 minutes.

  • canned soup, canned food — can you try to choose a slightly healthier one, rather than the chunky / full of salts one, something from Le Menu Bleu for instance : https://www.maxi.ca/fr/soupe-pr-te-servir-la-courge-musqu-e-et-ail/p/21545445_EA?source=nspt

  • Occasionally regular steak — steak is awesome! What do you eat with it? I found microwavable white rice at Dollarama, without additive and such, a nice portion for 1,25$. Cheap and healthy. Thanks Giselle those are actually really good choices, and lunch ideas... ordering is so damn expensive now. You have keto bread from bon matin which is full of fiber, really good, and also Protein up breads. You also have chicken salad spread, this is ideal for lunch, get some smart choice pop corn and you are all set.

Thanks for all these advices. Yes one step at a time seem to be a better option than going all hardcore crazy. I was already thinking on reverting to healthier options when it comes to bread and stuff like that. White rice funny enough i already eat a lot of that in general altough lately a little less as i got a bit tired of it. But yes i know its a good "companion piece" instead of potatoes or such.

My chicken i usually cook it in oven if its a full breast or in the pan if its sliced, but its "anti-adesive" so i don't put oil. I live my chicken dry unlike many peoples so im not bothered to not use aluminium or such.

One thing i notice in your post that came back a lot is cucumber, sadly i absolutely despise cucumber. I tried eating that and i just can't. To be honest veggies are my bane in general. The only time when i like them is when its one of my friend (or a fancy restaurant) who cook them and really use special recipes. In pre-made i usually tolerate them if its not in too big quantity but sometimes i slice them to such small pieces i barely taste them (wich is preferable for me). One i eat for instance is healthy choice beef and brocoli and i slice the brocoli to ridiculous tiny pieces. There is also some sauce in it that make it taste less ...like brocoli lol. Its healthy choice, so low on calories. I get it, its still pre-made but its not the worst.

Today i tought about all of that and told myself i need to cut the beer entirely for a while, at least until my body do not crave it. Then it must not be more than once a week and like 1 bottle at max (750ml). So im trying rest of July sober. I cross finger i can have it work. In the mean time to somewhat "replace" beer ill get energy drinks every couple days. I know they full of bad stuff, BUT they are zero sugar/10 cal per can so on that side its fine, and i need SOMETHING to drink while im trying to cut the beer. I can't go 0-100 and only drink water all day every day, otherwise i know ill fail. Eventually hopefully i will be able to cut even more on these as well and everything.

Its gonna be a long process, not a tomorow its done kinda thing, so i need to make sure i can pull trough.

I don't have a bike. I try to walk (fast walk, not slow pace) but at some point it get tiresome to see the same small town everytime. I often joke around with peoples that in my town you can go 1 town limit to the other on foot. Its that small. Otherwise i would like team sports but im not sure how to get in them and i don't have any friends to "casually do them".

Same... i can't. But on top of that they not as healthy. Im litterally the kind of guy who ask no pickles in a bigmac or any fastfood burger. And if they end up putting them anyway (or i forget to ask without, like if its a new thing i try), then i remove them. I hate wasting food but i can't stand pickles unless its Lays chips lol

I am not a fan of cucumbers either, but I will leave the pickles on the burger. On the other hand I sometimes take cucumbers out of salad. The raw version, I detest.

I make a salad for lunch every day. I buy 3 heads of romaine lettuce, shredded carrots, celery and red cabbage, and red onions. I chop up the romaine, celery, cabbage and onions. And then I top with 4 ounces of protein- either chicken, or ham, or sometimes turkey or steak. It's really not that hard to do. Occasionally I will add other veggies like olives, tomatoes, corn, edamame or cooked asaaragus, but NEVER do I add cucumbers.

I avoid ultra-processed foods as much as I can now where I just consume lean protein, healthy fats, clean carbs and fiber. Low sugar desserts if I want something sweet so no Western desserts if I can. I just drink tea, water, and coffee. If Nature didn't make it I don't take it.

As for working out. I am at the gym five days a week minimum sometimes full seven days. This is because I changed my gym last year. I went and joined Equinox and it is a pricey membership so if I don't go it would be a waste of money.

Plus I do 16:8 fasting. 2 meals a day,

Black decaf coffee in the morning 8am, lunch at noon & dinner at 5pm

I noticed a difference in weight loss from all that.

Good stuff! Just spent 120.00 bucks on groceries all the good stuff trying out an avocado spread it’s real good

One thing i notice in your post that came back a lot is cucumber, sadly i absolutely despise cucumber. I tried eating that and i just can't. To be honest veggies are my bane in general
They were not personal recommandations, merely ideas based on what you wrote!

Cucumbers and tomatoes are accessible and somewhat cheap, so they are often part of my examples! But it can be anything you like! I also prefer my vegetables in tiny pieces in a recipe, so there's no shame in that, just keep doing what works for you. The idea is to add a bit more of them when you can.

Also the idea behind my post was to :
- make a slightly better choice when shopping or cooking
- vegetables and fruits don't have to be cooked or presented in a fancy way to be good; grabbing a handful of grapes on the way, or having a bowl of mini tomatoes with your meal also counts.

avocado spread it’s real good
Part of my breakfast every morning. Cottage cheese, avocado (real though, not spread), eggs and slice of while wheat. I have been eating the same breakfast for the last 5 years or so. Takes away from having to think of what to eat. I have 2 other meals where I have to think. The older I get, the more I simplify things. I have 20 plain black T-shirt, took away the “what to wear today” too.

I see many here don’t like cucumber, I used to not like in my 20s… now I don’t mind them, especially in my gin and tonic
