I would like to buy some red wine because several escorts say they enjoy it. I don't drink so I know nothing about brands, particularly in Canada. I just want something considered good, but not too expensive. What are some brands, where can they be purchased (just at most grocery stores?), and how much is the cost? Thanks for any help on this guys.

My turn to help you out bud.. red wines come like women.. all different kinds depending on region. If you want some good wine but not spend too much go for Yellow Tail. Its from AUstralia and pretty main street and good for the price. Prob $10 a bottle. Cappola is a good pick as well..and there Merlot is great. around 12-15 a bottle. I really like a wine called Fat Bastard.. buttery tasting and range from 20-25. YOu can spend alot more but there is really no need unless you are going into the 100 range which i doubt you would want since you can spend your money towards better things.
And as to where to get.. if you are driving up from Boston.. just stop at the NH liquor store and you can get them there

Thanks very much. One problem...you can't take alcohol across the boarder, coming or going. That is why I asked on the MERG. I don't know if Canada has the same brands as we do or not, do you? What are you talking about You can take two bottle s of wine coming into Canada You can buy it at the border or the airport (duty free shop) In Quebec go to S.A.Q the staff is train in order to help you make a good choice California as great wine they really improve over the year even better than French wine in some case but they are expensive. In Quebec province you can only buy wine at SAQ liquor stores. Don't expect to buy wine from groceries and be satisfied...
Ask for advice at SAQ . They are very pleased to serve you but here are my own little recommandations at less than 20$ cdn.

from Argentina : Pinot Gris Lurton (around 15$)
from Argentina : Chardonnay Catena (around 21$)
from New Zeland : Sauvignon Blanc Babich (around 19$)
Outsanding under 30$ :
from Italy : Soave Calvarino Pieropan (around 28$)
The top between 50$ and 100$ :
from France (Burgundy) : Saint-Aubin from Hubert Lamy (SAQ put on sale recently some 2002, a fantastic vintage for white burgundy) (around 60 and 70$) (Saint-Aubin is a small village near Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet)
from Australia : Chardonnay Yattarna Penfold's (around 90$)
All those suggestion are available mostly in the Selection store but not in everyone (you can check the availabilty in the SAQ website)
But, if you ask me wich wine to open in presence of an SP : no hesitation for me : a nice bottle of Sauternes (very sweet wine from the south of Bordeaux region). Nice one are available in 375ml bottle (enough for two) for 20 to 30$.
An other option : Signature just received last week 11 different 2003 german riesling from the top producer Hermann Donnhoff. All the "auslese" are allready gone (the Norheimer Dellchen auslese 2003 was sold at 32$ for a 375ml and rated 98 by Robert Parker Jr), but their still some kabinett (more dry) available and a very nice Qba at only 21$ (750ml). Quantity are very limited.
I will give you later my picks for some nice red

from Italy : Coste delle Plaie, Montepulciano-d'Abruzzo 2003 (around 24$). This is the wine produce by the Formula One driver Jarno Trulli. I don't buy it because it's made by Trulli, I buy it because the wine is outstanding. There's about only 60 cases in stock remaining in few store and those 60 cases will disapeared very fast because it's one of the "coup de coeur" in the François Chartier 2006 Wine Guide (just released last week)
