I would like to buy some red wine because several escorts say they enjoy it. I don't drink so I know nothing about brands, particularly in Canada. I just want something considered good, but not too expensive. What are some brands, where can they be purchased (just at most grocery stores?), and how much is the cost? Thanks for any help on this guys.

Wines

My turn to help you out bud.. red wines come like women.. all different kinds depending on region. If you want some good wine but not spend too much go for Yellow Tail. Its from AUstralia and pretty main street and good for the price. Prob $10 a bottle. Cappola is a good pick as well..and there Merlot is great. around 12-15 a bottle. I really like a wine called Fat Bastard.. buttery tasting and range from 20-25. YOu can spend alot more but there is really no need unless you are going into the 100 range which i doubt you would want since you can spend your money towards better things.

And as to where to get.. if you are driving up from Boston.. just stop at the NH liquor store and you can get them there

later

Thanks, but.....

Thanks very much. One problem...you can't take alcohol across the boarder, coming or going. That is why I asked on the MERG. I don't know if Canada has the same brands as we do or not, do you? If I can buy what you mentioned in Canada then that will work. Thanks much, let me know if you have more info.

What are you talking about You can take two bottle s of wine coming into Canada You can buy it at the border or the airport (duty free shop) In Quebec go to S.A.Q the staff is train in order to help you make a good choice California as great wine they really improve over the year even better than French wine in some case but they are expensive. Wine from Chilie is a great buy for the price Dont stay away from the white wine may be you should start with a white California wine

I also like to keep some wine for the ladies. My experience is that all that is really needed is a basic red table wine, and the girls will be happy. You said you do not drink it yourself, so my recommendation is buy a split (half-size bottle) of red wine at the grocery. IGA downtown has two or three split sized, french, italian, or chilean. I stick to the french or italian. Cost is about $9. All who have had it have enjoyed it. Don't forget to pack your corkscrew.

Awesome wine - rock bottom price - Australian

The Little Penguin @ 14$ (White & Red)
The Kangaroo Tail @ 13$

Each from different sectors of the continent, both taste great. I'll try that, bringing a bottle next time. I compare them with wines 2x & 3x the price.
I'm sure that next year their price will rocket up.

Put the bottle in a special place and let her discover it by accident...?

Then again, how about those little 1oz / 2oz bottles? Tequilla, Vodka, Rum...
Bring two, use them as a shooter.

Wine...hmmmm

WEll

First Yould should ask the SP if she prefers red or white, coz if you don't drink all is to please her ..... then for you at the end... :D
In Quebec province you can only buy wine at SAQ liquor stores. Don't expect to buy wine from groceries and be satisfied... :(

Ask for advice at SAQ . They are very pleased to serve you but here are my own little recommandations at less than 20$ cdn.

RED
Big house red , california
Mas Collet , Spain
Domenio del Arenal, Spain

WHITE ( chardonnay is a sure shot !!) DONT FORGET TO CHILL BEFORE YOU SERVE UNLESS IT'S A WASTE (at least 2 hrs in a ice bucket + water)
Errazuriz chardonnay , Chile
Alamos Ridge Chardonnay, Argentina
Torontes Etchart cayafate, Argentina

Some Smirnoff Vodka cooler is also very appreciated from Sp

Those are sure shot.... ;)
Have a drrink to me ...HAve fun

Hi Voyageur,

When you drink a very good wine, you do not need a full course meal to enjoy it, IMHO. A good meal may help me "digest" a low quality wine, but this is not necessary for a Margaux. In any event, a Château Margaux will always be easier to drink than a cheap Chilean wine, either red or white.

Actually, what I truly enjoy with a woman is a good glass of Porto, either white or red. This is specially good during the winter.

With respect to Dépanneurs or Grocery stores, nobody will ever convince me of buying a bottle of wine there. I don,t want to ruin my liver.

Good day

Elvis

Elvis your thinking was right many years ago Quality of wine improved a lot over the years Sometime your paying a lot for a name not quality I will not try to make you change your mind but read about it there is a lot to learn. I am a wine lover not an expert

I like...

Beringer Knights Valley Vineyard(California) Cabernet Sauvignon

or for white

Kendall Jackson Chardonnay

BTW theres no problem bringing up to 3 gallons of Alchohol, per CAR not per person, back into the US at the border crossing I use. I checked beforehand with the the State Liquor Board.

Château Margaux 1989 is selling for $457 a bottle. If you can afford to give that to a SP, I take my hat off to you! Château Margaux of a vintage more recent than 1989 is not ready for drinking. You can forget drinking the 2000, it's completely closed.

I think no Sp desserves that except the one who really loves you.. :p

Ratings - where?

Train said:
I have to disagree with this. There are many red wines released with ratings greater than 90 ( ie far better than Yellow Tail , Little Penguin and Fat Bastard- not to say that they are bad by any means but they are in the 86 to 88 range) that cost less than $20. The LCBO had 5 of them on this month's vintage releases alone. I'm sure that based on past experience the SAQ is also distributing them.

There is a Spanish as well as a South African Red both at $19 that are rated 92. I mention the ratings only because it is an independent opinion and not my own although I have tried both and they are excellent.

I agree that Aussie wine is great

Where do you find this independant rating? On the SAQ site? Please tell me where. Better than Yellow Tail at 19$ is highly interesting.

Original question

Is it possible to go back and provide our friend from the other side of the border with a simple answer.
This thread should not be one on wine in general!

Don't get fool with SP.....they are not there for the wino....$$$$$$$$$...whatever their educated brains!!!!
Just try to provide them with wine (whatever the rating!) instead of $$$$...you have the answer!!!
Never forget....60....120....180 minutes.....$$$$$$

I have tried to have a recommended red wine. After drank first glass, my tongue turned black :p
So I do not think a good idea to provide red wine, your dick may turn black or SP would not allow you to do daty after they have seen your tongue. :D

Suggestion for WHITE wine at SAQ

Best value for the money :

from Argentina : Pinot Gris Lurton (around 15$)
from Argentina : Chardonnay Catena (around 21$)
from New Zeland : Sauvignon Blanc Babich (around 19$)

Outsanding under 30$ :

from Italy : Soave Calvarino Pieropan (around 28$)

The top between 50$ and 100$ :

from France (Burgundy) : Saint-Aubin from Hubert Lamy (SAQ put on sale recently some 2002, a fantastic vintage for white burgundy) (around 60 and 70$) (Saint-Aubin is a small village near Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet)

from Australia : Chardonnay Yattarna Penfold's (around 90$)

All those suggestion are available mostly in the Selection store but not in everyone (you can check the availabilty in the SAQ website)

But, if you ask me wich wine to open in presence of an SP : no hesitation for me : a nice bottle of Sauternes (very sweet wine from the south of Bordeaux region). Nice one are available in 375ml bottle (enough for two) for 20 to 30$.

An other option : Signature just received last week 11 different 2003 german riesling from the top producer Hermann Donnhoff. All the "auslese" are allready gone (the Norheimer Dellchen auslese 2003 was sold at 32$ for a 375ml and rated 98 by Robert Parker Jr), but their still some kabinett (more dry) available and a very nice Qba at only 21$ (750ml). Quantity are very limited.

I will give you later my picks for some nice red

only one for right now :

from Italy : Coste delle Plaie, Montepulciano-d'Abruzzo 2003 (around 24$). This is the wine produce by the Formula One driver Jarno Trulli. I don't buy it because it's made by Trulli, I buy it because the wine is outstanding. There's about only 60 cases in stock remaining in few store and those 60 cases will disapeared very fast because it's one of the "coup de coeur" in the François Chartier 2006 Wine Guide (just released last week)
