How can you afford it?

I am always impressed by level of activity of some of the regulars members of that board on the SP, MP or SC scene. Without asking anybody to reveal anything about your business, profession or identity, how can you find the ressources (time and money) for that amount of hobbying?
Do you have a trick to put it on your employer's expense account? Very rich? Spending cash of undeclared revenues? Or, maybe, very profitable illicit activity that, probably, you will not want to reveal?
Since I asked the question, I guess it is appropriate to provide the first answer. I am a professional with a fully declared comfortable revenue. I don't consider myself rich but enough flexibility in my budget to afford a weekly visit to SC on lunch time (about 150$) without affecting my way of living. Fortunately my wife is not checking closely my revenues and expenses as long as there is enough for the normal living of the family. However, it would be out of question to spend thousands of dollars on frequent multi hour sessions with HDH SPs like some of you seem able to afford! I hope you will not consider my question too indiscreet or tactless but nobody is forced to answer.

I wanted to weigh in on this. For many years I like most guys would always tell you, "I'll never pay for it!" That being said, I had a wife who never wanted to fuck and yet spent all I made. I eventually met a woman who I screwed for about 5 years on a regular basis and let me tell you she cost me a fortune. If I am honest, a blow job in a strip club or a massage parlour at $60 or $80 tops is really really cheap. An evening with a date (the wife is long gone) drinks, dinner etc and maybe, maybe the evening ends with me getting laid costs what, $300 to $400. I know that I can hire a great escort for less than that and guess what, it's a sure thing, the date on the other hand isn't. My attitude now is, I really don't want nor do I need someone to live with. I have my dog, my kids visit regularly and soon grandchildren. I can jerk off when I want, get a blow job when I want or get laid when I want it's just a question of how much I want to spend.

I was quite reckless in my spending when I was younger, but I am older and wiser now. Having gone through several humbling life experiences, I have learned the value of money. I allow myself a maximum of 2 indulgences per week, 2 MP visits, or 2 SP visits, or 1 MP and 1 SP visit. Most of the time I get much less than that.
It helps if you know of several MPs and SPs that offer good value for the money, there is nothing worse than to have a bad experience at any price. Once in a while it is nice to try a new place. THere are many SPs and MPs that offer very good service for a very reasonable price.
I will just explain it another way, sometimes when I am in the grocery store. I buy the Presidents Choice Brand instead of the premium brand with the well known name. I find that the quality is the same or better than the premium brands and I am quite satisfied. What you have to watch out for is the No Name Brand, with these it is a hit and miss propsition

you know I forgot to add something earlier. I am a non smoker (this saves me $8.50/day) I don't drink except for two or three beer a week (usually at the Sexpert) I never gamble (ever see the assholes that plow their life savings into the poker machines) and now that I am on my own, I really don't spend much money on the other things in life. I make a six figure income and the way I see it I am entitled to spend what I have how I see fit. Like Doctor Evil, I usually see SP's that I have known for some time so their aren't much in the way of surprises. Every now and then I will try something new and 9 times out of 10 I am disappointed by the service I receive and return to the SP I know will treat me right. I basically enjoy my life and most often have a huge smile as a result of the SP who has serviced me recently

I agree with that argument -- as long as you see the choice as a one-time affair: 3-400$ for an uncertain outcome with a date versus the same amount for a surefire lay with an SP. However, if you look at the problem as a multi-period game, then the calculus is different. On the dating scene, I run the chance of finding a mistress who will give me "free" sex on multiple occasions, in exchange for a larger initial investment and some maintenance thereafter. So we really have to compare two NPVs:

1-The net present value of a finite (all good things come to an end) series of sexual encounters (which usually improve over time) with a mistress/girlfriend, account taken for the cost of the outings required to entertain the woman, plus the opportunity cost of the time spent to find a date.

2-Over the same period of time, the NPV of a series of sessions with an SP, in which the value of the session follows a stochastic distribution (that is to factor in the "box of chocolates" phenomenon) whereas the cost can be assumed to be linear (indexed at CPI).

Now this is conceptual of course, since it's hard to put a figure on the "utility" of a sexual encounter. The calculus is therefore implicit. As far as I'm concerned, I tend to alternate between the SP and the dating scene (Reseau Contact in Quebec), although my gut feeling is that the SP strategy has the greater NPV.

It's the cost to get out of the mistress/girlfriend that has a significant impact on the overall value. Not to forget the impact of the "boiling bunny" factor (re. Fatal Attraction) that can wreck havoc in your current life; which can lead to the second most significant impact on your revenues - divorce...

So, an SP once in a while is a good thing. She'll never boil you bunny and she won't get in your way, so you can keep stuff at home in a nice and "normal" fashion.

For the original question: I see typically 1 SP per month or so. It does not have significant impact on my disposable income and is enough to keep me ... satisfied.

You are quite right, I should have factored the "boiling bunny" risk into the model. Actually, you remind me of the reason I started seeing SPs in the first place, which was when a mistress I had started asking "to see where I live". I read the writing on the wall and terminated the affair pronto. SPs are indeed a lot safer from that point of view!

franky will come in on this. I am single and make way into six digits. I am lucky. I find no problem with the expense except in my mind. I am stilll of the mind set that I am paying for it? bugs the hell out of me sometimes, which is why I never go on dinner dates and never keep sps fo rgreater than two hours. Hard to justify the expense even if money isn't an issue. This is why I often try to meet sp's who want to become "friends" we can go to dinner, on trips and stop with the clock watching. I guess that is how I afford it. I also go long periods without a single encounter.

Very well said, Bob. I used to experience a lot of "buyer's remorse" even after good SP sessions because I always felt that I should be doing something more "constructive" with the money. The fact that I could afford to spend didn't matter, it was the way I was spending, on something impermanent, that gave me second thoughts. Well, I've since smartened up and adopted an attitude much like Mr. Crane's. The last thing you want to be doing on your deathbed is regretting all the great things you wish you'd done.
