Almost every hit show on Quebec tv is a rip off of either an american or French program.

I guess you & I don't watch the same programs.

Rip-off means steal.
Maybe the shows are imitating depicting similar life situations.

I have absolutely no idea why you way say such a deragatory thing.
But from your trailer park I guess watching "reality" TV shows that were borrowed from South America into the USA into Quebec would appear that way.
I don't watch Fear Factor, Survivor and all that crap.

Howard Stern is but a modern-day version of an agent provocateur - he is a professional shit-disturber, like Rush Limbaugh, like Pat Robertson, like Jeff Fillion. !

"modern-day version" interesting.

None of these guys is risking their lives. None of these guys is saving lives or improving the world we live in.

Its like the "modern-day version" of prophets hawking their love for the lord on Sunday morning TV. Making money.

Or "modern-day version" of black magic. All those info-mercial s for miracle medicines, esoteric pathways to happiness, and lose a few pounds at the same time..... Making money.

But Bill O'Reilly says he is "Looking out for you!"
Rush Limbaugh is continuing his years of "Broadcast Excellence" better known as lying.
The televangelists like Pat Robertson are advocating "Killing in the name of -insert bogus cause here"
And "Miracle" healers like Benny Hinn are saving you from the perils of having too much money in your wallet.

Their are plenty of douchebags on radio and TV and its up to us to recognize them for what they are and treat them accordingly. That being said if someone chooses to listen that is their right.

Famous Quote about modern media "...and I can't tell the difference between ABC News, Hill Street Blues, and a preacher on the Old Time Gospel Hour, Stealing money, from the sick, and the old, well the God I believe in isn't short on cash Mister... come on, into the arms, of America."-Bono/lyrics from Bullet the Blue Sky.

It's not a derogatory statement, it's a fact.
Star Academie comes from France, the US have a hit with a dance competition and next thing you know there's one on Quebec tv. What I was trying to say is if that is the culture we are so determined to protect from insult, we have out priorities in the wrong place. The best example of Quebec culture on television is Les Bougons. Then again there's nothing original on the major US networks either, they've been stealing their sitcom ideas from British tv for ages. They just don't do the shows as well as the Brits do. As far as reality shows are concerned, I've never seen Survivor, or Big Brother(stolen from europe), or Fear Factor etc... In fact I rarely watch much network television these days as I find that 3 versions of CSI and who knows how many Law & Orders, all the reality shows and the stupid Nanny programs just go to prove that creativity is just about dead in Hollywood.

And just so you know, I don't live in a trailer park. Why can't people just try to make an intelligent arguement without throwing insults into the mix?
I'm starting to understand why some posters don't feel like posting here anymore.

Controversy

I don't think creativity is dead Techman, you just have to look for it. HBO is the best value on TV for my money with more awards for its original programming than we would care to count. Funny thing about HBO is that, like Howard Stern, much of its programming is highly controversial. Imagine that! Controversy helping to create a buzz to get people to take a look and once they see the quality of the product(in HBO's case at least) the shows just take off. Again though, like it or not, you have to pay to get it(HBO), and if it offends someone they have the power to change the channel.

The problem is that up here in the Great White North, our glorious CRTC prevents us from receiving HBO. Have to protect our Canadian culture you know. I have gotten so tired of the regular network programming that I no longer even have cable. If one of our cable or satellite providers is ever able to deliver HBO I might re-consider, but as of 2 years ago I'm running good old rabbit ears and watch a lot of PBS.:D I've also built up a large collection of DVD's.

Words to live by. Techman. Let's both practice what you preach.

On the other hand good threads containing jabs & pokes are funny to read and hard to resist.

I recall this being said once before as well. A real shame that even your mini-dish providers can't provide it. Ever considered C-Band? You'll need at least a one acre lot to put up the dish but after watching PBS  for too long I'd be jumping at the chance! Are any of those DVD's adult in nature? Thats the best entertainment value for your dollar outside of hobbying! :D

Hydragoat...jabs and pokes are fine but when you say I live in a trailer park you are insulting all those who actually do live in one. If I moved in, everyone else would leave:D

Honestabe...sorry, no adult DVD's. Why should I pay for porn when I can download dvd quality adult vids from the net for free and burn my own? I've always found that watching adult content is much more fun when you have a lady, who is also into it, watching with you.

Unfortunately I live in an apartment and sat dishes of any kind are prohibited.

Thanks for the link. I missed the radio show but caught the party at the HardRock Cafe in NYC with a live show by Sheryl Crow.

One more thing to add...

For those of us (like me) who do not have Sirius, there is a great website from a superfan that details every day of the Howard Stern Show - http://www.marksfriggin.com.news.htm.

This guy has detailed every day of the Stern show for the last 10 years!

It's a good read for those of us who miss the show.

Howard Stern,
This show is good for big fat guys that can`t get a date.
I lost interest fast. Too much talk about diapers, sodomy, flatulence, excrement & urine. Frankly; caca & pipi talk do not do it for me in the morning. There is nothing particularly shocking nor interesting about pussy farts either.
Good for the same type of intellect that likes Survivor, Fear Factor and Loft Story.

Oh and I'm sure with your sense of humor you're getting plenty of dates.

Yeah. 11 million giggling, moronic young guys that smell like BO. You know, like Beavis & Butthead.

I grew out of humour like that since I was what 8 years old and figured out that when I scratched my ass, my fingers would smell like shit.

As for dates. I'm sure that girls make up a 1% share of Stern's audience.

So you like Howard Stern.
Howard Stern is not a controversial, revolutionary, enlightening the world with wicked ideas. He is an entertainer with a niche. The reason his audience is so limited is that his subject matter only appeals to a small segment of the male population that are liberating themselves from parental and primary school censorship. The curiosity factor for most of us lasts perhaps a maximum of three shows.
