Why are the sidewalks not cleaned properly? Some of them are clear and others are solid ice. I almost slipped a couple times. Don't really want to get hurt while I'm on vacation. I know in Ontario if I don't clear my sidewalk and somebody slips on it and gets injured, I can be sued. Isn't it the same here?

In Quebec children are trained to fall properly once they learn to walk. So we fall all the time and do not get hurt. Tomber en amour, tomber enceinte, tomber en panne ........

If only I knew...
Link, this winter is shit, as you might have noticed! And now, the temperature is changing wildly so, the snow melt, creating water who will only freeze a few hours, if not minutes later. This make keeping sidewalks and streets free of ice almost impossible. Just at my place yesterday, my street was clean to the asphalt at 18:00 and, when I came back home around 21:00, it looked like a skating ring.
In order to sue, you need to prove negligence. With the fast-changing conditions, it's almost impossible.

The biggest problem here is the lack of respect

How is it that the streets are perfectly fine, no thick sheet of ice, and yet, the sidewalks are pure ice?! On my street alone there are no less than 8 driveways, oh so nicely and cleanly cleared, but, oh, fuck the pedestrians, let's just leave the huge ridge of snow on either side of the entrance. Now let's not forget the people digging out their cars, hmmm, you don't see them digging out and throwing the snow in the street, no, don't want to impede the cars, let's throw it on the sidewalk!

So now we are stuck with no less than 3" deep on ice, coated with a little bit of snow, just so you can't see it. Oh, and the end of my street has no corner - yup, it is one huge snow bank. Forget about walking in the streets, Quebec drivers don't give a fuck about hitting you.

And that's my rant for the day!

...mais les pommes poussent dans les arbres ! Non???
