I will confirm that before Bill C-36 Backpage sites were nothing like now. Sure before there were fake ads, bait and switch service (girls saying they do GFE but once they get the money they change to non GFE), some with fake pics. But clients getting threatened with violence in an attempt to extort them this was rare but since Bill C-36 using violence is now common. All you see now are fake pics, bait and switch service... This has all now been taken to the extreme. Bill C-36 is doing what it was intended to do and that is to make the environment so inhospitable that demand would drop. In the tity bar scene mileage dropped across the board. The city going on its anti-prostitution campaigns from club to club to threaten to shut them down. So yes things changed a lot. I predict in ten years or so that the scene will be going the same way as the US scene. Everything will be deep underground and you have to know where to go. Prices will go sky high.
In my neck of the woods in the US where there is no c-36, Backpage is also full of fake ads. And before that, Craigslist's personal ads was fake ad after ad too. I'm not a Backpage user but on the few occasions when I actually bother to visit usasexguide, this appears to be the consensus. And Patron is right about the low end of the activity having the most issues. I've read my fair share of close call incidents but never at the escort, $200-300 range. Safety-wise, at the end of the day the best advice is to always remember to use your northern head and trust your instincts. When the prospect of sex is involved, we men don't always make wise decisions.
The US is more severely affected then Canada since prostitution is illegal both the client and escort can get busted. Such laws makes it easier for con artists, extortionists and other shady characters to do bad things since the victim cannot turn to the police.
One thing that should be mentioned is that there is low end, bait and switch types on Seeking Arrangement as well. I came across this news story in one of the local papers the other day:

A few years ago, a good friend of mine who was on Seeking Arrangement, and is very attracted to low end inner city girls, was robbed by a woman on Seeking Arrangement, who had brought a friend under the guise of doing a duo. It was a similar set up to what is described in the above news article, except 2 on 1 rather than 3 on 1. My buddy went to the local police department and they basically laughed at and mocked him, took a report and did nothing to investigate. He was robbed of around $500 and they never caught the girls or got his money back. He told me about how the police made fun of him and made him feel like an asshole. He was double humiliated, first by the set up and betrayal of the SA girl, and then by the police laughing at him.
By the way, if any of you after reading that article are wondering why the Manchester Police did not arrest the sailor for soliciting sex, GOOD QUESTION. My personal theory is that the military status of the complainant has something to do it. I would be willing to bet cash that the investigating police officer was a US Navy or other US armed forces veteran.
Yes but the problem is a low end market exist for every type of business there is. It just happens that this one is not legal
It simply requires you to know what your doing to navigate it. Well that is perfectly true. But that does not mean there is no value on every sp in the 80-100 range (although that is a range for bj only... 120$ for hh is pretty much low end market). As I wrote you need a bit of know how. Rules are quite simple. No backpage. No motel. No st-leonard, st-michel or montreal-north. No real phone call on first meet no go. And no fake pics. All these rules can be voided on the recommendation of a merbiste here.
There are many great quality sp in that low end market on the north shore who a giving me a great time in this hobby. Probably true also on the south shore.

If you are a local then yeah ok you get a point. Me i need a place to stay anyway. There is cheaper places than hotels yes, sometimes i can stay at a friend's place, but usually hotel are the best solution for my stay in MTL so once she leave, i am glad to be there already, i would have to return there anyway. Waiting in hotel room has become a norm for me, its part of the build up exitement... Thanksfully now agencies are usually pretty on time, with maybe 5 to 10 mins difference max, but i remember a time when it could be longer and oh boy did 10 mins felt like 40 lol. But one thing for sure, its better to wait in the confort of my hotel room than wait outside or in a lobby. I am very insecure on time, i always arrive in advance to any meeting i have, so i play the wait game often. So in particular if i arrive to an incall place 30 mins in advance, the wait outside ain't really fun.
