As-tu déjà entendu parler de la "Netiquette"? Oui? non? En tout cas, tu devrais savoir que "pistonner" ses copains ou le magasin de ses petits copains ne se fait tout simplement pas dans un forum de discussion qui portait sur un tout autre sujet.

Elle s'est déjà pistonnée elle-même et on a tous vu ce que cela a donné. Si on avait laissé passer cette publicité gratuite, elle aurait continué et je te garantis qu'elle aurait fini par se faire "ramasser" de façon pas très gentille par quelqu'un de ce forum. J'ai donc écrit ce message pour la protéger.

Est-ce que tu penses que les membres de Merb me laisseraient faire la publicité gratuite de mes autres copains Elvis comme "Ameublement Elvis" (sur la rue papineau, ils ont un 2 pour un ces temps-ci... Faut aller voir ou le fameux "Elvis Shoe Repair Store" sur Sherbrooke??

My "shilling" comment was done in jest, just poking some gentle fun at Juliana.

Let's lighten up a little here folks, the internet being what it is, one must take it all in with a grain of salt.

As far as Juliana goes... she seems like a sweet lady, a little overzealous at time perhaps, but overall well intentioned i think. In any case, her presence on MERB is a godsend... she never fails to entertain (living up to that Brasilian reputation -- a splash of yellow and green in this world of grey).

Along with a few others, he's propably one of the most straightforward poster here, never afraid to word his opinion regardless of the controversy he may cause as a result. No surprise here.

But Mod2, I still have doubts about what might be behind (on purpose or not!) the request for the identification of the "café"!!!..

I think it is very simple. The Mods have technology that can catch a shill if they know where he is posting from and they see 2 handles posting from same IP address and same computer. The shills know this, so they are leaving home base and going to CyberCafes to shill. But we have counteracted that now, and the shills don't know whether or not they will get caught posting from one of the computers I have "tagged" with the assistance of another member currently in Montreal. They shill at this risk!

Lawless, it's called staying one step ahead of those who would seek to foist all kinds of bullshit on you, so I really cannot understand how or why you can complain about these methods.

I fully agree with the reasons standing behing the process.
I would have appreciated it if Mod2, at the time he started this thread, to spell it out...giving us the real reasons for his request to identify the "cafés"....no need to rely on delation...just be straightforward about it.....
In the process, some may have taken advantage of the way it was originally submitted!!!!

I already exposed (above) the reasons behind my request, and many posters rehashed that in other, simpler words. Kinda simple in my book.

There is no delation here because there is no accusation whatsoever. Some members simply posted from known Internet Cafés and kindly wrote in their post where it was from. It just helps identifying the Cafés, that's all.

As with any web site on the internet, some records logs are kept for every post on MERB as to where the post is from. It's just the way it is. Whoever doesn't want the moderators to know where they are posting from should simply restrict from posting whatsoever.

By the way, for those who might be worried by the above statement (re: logs), please note the following:

1) Many IP adresses are dynamically assigned and can therefore not be tagged to an individual or a company at first glance.
2) All the handles on MERB are kinda "anonymous" and tagged to a simple email adress. There is no simple way to get down to a live invidual.
3) The ONLY WAY to track a post to a live individual is to have a sub-poena sent to the ISP asking them to disclose who was the IP address assigned to on a given date and time. Unless you do something very nasty (like blackmailing or sending threatning PMs to someone - ex: Alicia lately), this is not going to happen.

I was asked, and openly told what I was looking for. I had nothing to hide, just didn't want to overwhelm people with techno-babble stuff at first. Those of you more Internet-savvy knew what I was looking for instantly, by reading my initial post.
