I would hope so!bond_james_bond said:I wonder if there will be a tribute at next year's JazzFest.
Coincidently, I mentioned a similar anecdote but deleted it. A few years back, I shook OP's massive hand at some event - forgot what it was about - at Birks.Agrippa said:Sad news! Another legend leaves us around Christmas.
I didn't follow his career that much, so I can't quite comment, but a personal anecdote: I met him after a show once and got to shake his hand. His hands are massive! Doesn't explain why he's a great pianist, but it certainly helps.
I guess it's inevitable; anyone who has shaken his hand will have noticed! Yes they really are that big! There are many but Jackie Robinson Foundation's A Tribute to Oscar Peterson Live at the Town Hall (with Ray Brown, Herb Ellis, Benny Green, Roy Hargrove, Shirley Horn, Milt Jackson, The Manhattan Transfer, Lewis Nash, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, Clark Terry and Stanley Turrentine) is a collection of some of OP's most memorable sessions.Agrippa said:I only have one Oscar Peterson album: At the Stratford Shakespearean (and I confess that they are MP3s a friend gave me). Now that I've re-listened to it today, I cannot recommend it highly enough! It was recorded live in 1956 so don't expect a modern Brad Mehldau or Keith Jarett sound. Oscar is accompanied by Ray Brown and bass and Herb Ellis on guitar... who shine as much as Oscar!
Anyone can recommend another album?
Geez, what a line-up!! (Though I can do without the Manhattan Transfer...) I'll give it a try, thanks!Ziggy Montana said:There are many but Jackie Robinson Foundation's A Tribute to Oscar Peterson Live at the Town Hall (with Ray Brown, Herb Ellis, Benny Green, Roy Hargrove, Shirley Horn, Milt Jackson, The Manhattan Transfer, Lewis Nash, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, Clark Terry and Stanley Turrentine) is a collection of some of OP's most memorable sessions.
