You're entitled to your opinion, Stan - no problem. But the correct spelling of the guy's name is in the title of the thread.

You seem to think Biden is unintelligent, Stan. Do you also think he's a poor speller? I'm just curious about your opinion on that, because naturally you are always entitled to your own opinion.

Seems to me he got the spelling right.
Biden‘s stories are usually a complete load of rubbish
He certainly spelled fucking idiot correctly which is the main topic I believe he was trying to get across.

Why were the 'cages' built?

In a 2019 interview with nonpartisan think tank The Aspen Institute, Jeh Johnson, Barack Obama's Homeland Security secretary, told NPR's Mary Louise Kelly that the "cages" predate the Trump administration.
"Chain-link barriers, partitions, fences, cages, whatever you want to call them were not invented on January 20, 2017," Johnson said.
Kelly asked Johnson about a 2014 photograph of him touring an Arizona facility for migrants along with former Gov. Jan Brewer. The picture is archived on the website for the Arizona Capitol Times.
(...)

When you want it super simple nothing beats USA today (the paper of record for simple people).

Trump is ineffective at best. No way he would get the purchase and installation of cages done (but he is not above maintaining their usage if already exists).

The “cages“ were fully operational in 2014... so they were installed by some mysterious figure pre-trump.

Why 2014? That is when the pic used in the cnn report on Trump’s cages was taken.

Hypocrisy on all sides is what defines politics... I can’t wait for the first republican (or federal liberal when they are out of office) to denounce the new government “reckless deficits”

So it seems the cages were built during the Obama administration to house the spike in influx of migrants to the USA. The migrants consisted of women, men, and children, some of whom were unaccompanied? Is this correct so far?

No dude, I’m not taking that. I don’t understand the whole “Obama built them”
Thing, I’m serious. Explain it to me? Based on what Flabert cited those cages were built for a spike in migrants or whatever you wanna call them? Women, adults, and children? Is this a correct interpretation of that article?

^^^^^^ The main issue with the cage thing is that the media showed pictures of kids in cages and claiming Trump did this, while the pictures were taken when Obama was in power ( yes, kids were in cages ). Do not know or care who built them or why, it is how they were used after. Assuming to keep them safe and away from the adult population as many were kids taken/bought from families to get illegals across.

Also, the govt was accused in the 1980s of mistreating illegal migrant minors (that is the word that was used back then, I understand those words are not trendy anymore). The biggest part of that mistreatment was housing then with adults, some who travelled with them for valid or nefarious reasons and others who just happened to be there. There was a lot of child abuse in that situation (some sexual, other just plain vanilla beatings) which led to the 1997 flores settlement - Janet Reno was Clinton’s AG at the time I believe.

This decision which is still an accepted precedent required that the govt separate children migrants from adults for their protection among other requirements. All governments since have tried to manage this task as they could but the surge in unaccompanied minor migrants in Obama’s mandate made it necessary to build “facilities” - temporarily called cages by some during Trump’s term.

The name “facility” is now back in vogue. I am nit sure why people’s indignation has gone away (AOC to her credit still feels the same way, confirmed in a tweet today. You can disagree with her but she is at least trying to appear consistent).

Ahh ok, starting to make sense Saully, But this part Flabert

“All governments since have tried to manage this task as they could but the surge in unaccompanied minor migrants in Obama’s mandate made it necessary to build “facilities” - temporarily called cages by some during Trump’s term.“

Was it a surge of just unaccompanied minor migrants or just an overall surge in migrants altogether that resulted in the building of the cages.

To me, the whole “who built the cages” battle cry never made sense, and it does a bit now i guess after the last two posts. But don’t think it’s appropriate. it never made sense before because to me, sure, u wanna keep out freeloaders, fair enough. That’s pretty much to put it bluntly the MAGAstani mentality of securing the border. Not saying anything wrong with that, why should US citizens pay for migrants when they have roads to build, veterans to take care of, maybe invest in their own public health care to fight a pandemic. Makes sense, plus Mexico should be taking a bigger role in helping out. Totally get that, really do.

However, the zero tolerance policy’s implementation of family separation took it to another level. I can’t really credit that with Trump as I find it hard to believe him conceptualizing any specifics for anything, but more a brainchild of his underling Steve Miller

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-44303556

I’m not really supportive of Biden’s immigration policy either. Complete opposite end of spectrum as Millers

Gotta find a middle ground

It’s interesting cause a lot of the Eastern European countries went through this with migrants from Middle East, afghan countries. Many countries like KSA and UaE with all their billions of dollars were turning a blind eye to this group of migrants. The whole America 1st slogan just comes off as bullshit to me as Kushner is up MBS’s asshole. It’s ok for MBS and UAE to turn a blind eye but Mexico had to build USA a wall? It just seems like Trumpy knows what he needs to say to garner the base and that’s “build the wall, make Mexico pay for it”, Obama was born in Kenya, stuff like that.

You never heard congressmen members walking out of an Oval Office meeting saying Obama or Clinton referred to countries as “shithole” Countries

The president's $1.9T relief bill is set for a House vote on Friday, and new polling shows it has 76 percent support with the American public, with 60 percent of Republicans supporting the stimulus.
