Kilts in Montreal

I am going to dinner with work colleagues next week. If I wear my kilt in Montreal will I be the subject of harassment? I am not worried about my colleagues - all are women and they are professional. I am concerned about the pub that we are going to - Burgundy Lion.

Plan to meet an escort later. Any thoughts on how she may react?

Montréal is a very open city I doubt people will even give you a second look. Not as if most people haven’t seen a Scotsman in a kilt or one pretending to be one.

It’s not like how you wear it, it’s about how you feel about it. My friend is fat and big and he was so proud getting married, he was explaining me about the great kilt and his next endevours with it. Priceless.

I played golf for 2 weeks in Scotland and England this spring...wore a kilt most of the time. Ridiculous how free I felt. If I could find tartan dress socks to match Id try to start the trend here in the States

I think rather than be worried what people might think... Know that there are a few ideas people who look might likely have. 1 being admiration to be confident enough to do your own thing. 2 those who judge are often judging out of jelousy because they don't have that confidence themselves. 3 curiosity, you've just become one of the most facinating people there. 4 you have culture in a city where many are afraid to exhibit their culture, or feel the need to assimilate...

Wearing a kilt is no different than seeing people of any culture wear their homeland attire.
In a city that is LGBTQ+ embracing, a kilt is still known to be a manly piece of clothing, not a feminized one. Most of us are raised to accept it.. even our own blackwatch wear them.

I have been to ceremonies, parties and graduations where Kilts and bagpipes were part of the festivities. Seemed perfectly normal. I am not too keen on the bagpipe aspect, at times it sounds like a duck call.
I do see the convenience in wearing a kilt and going commando underneath, no wasting time trying to unbuckle your pants when the time arises, so to speak.

I am so with you on this one! I spent 2.5 years in Halifax and I couldn’t stand hearing it. It doesn’t like out of tune duck call. Makes my ears bleed.

Sean Connery was a proud Scot. Here he is wearing formal attire - Prince Charlie doublet is worn when a dinner jacket (tuxedo) would be worn. His sporran is a dress sporran. Ghillie brogues to set it all off. While I have all that for formal occasions that would be a bit over the top for going to the pub. I will wear a more casual doublet or maybe a Jacobite shirt, brown brogue boots and a day sporran (no cantle at the top, leather not fur).
